Lopez left Opeth because of his health, I don't know why all people are doing is talking shit on Axe. He has really done a commendable job of replacing one of the best drummers in metal's history.

Lopez's is still the most amazing drummer I think I've ever heard - stunning snare work... but Axe carries on very well. Wathershed is as stunning as any other Opeth record.

Dude was having anxiety attacks during a tour. After not being able to play a few shows, coming back for one, then not playing others, he left indefinitely. He has his own project now, so he's probably not coming back, which is a damn shame. The drumming in Harlequin Forest is some of the most driving and compelling I've heard.

When Akerfedt said that he wanted the last album to be more earthly, he should have asked Lopez to join on drums, cuz Axe is a great drummer but hes more a perfect machine. I really like Lopez cuz he brings emotions out of his drum set, like with the firs Amon Amarth album.

Deliverance is one of those songs that wouldn't have sucked bad without Lopez, but you can clearly hear that he shaped the song. Can you imagine what Axentrash would have came up with to play over Deliverance? It would have been a catastrophe.

@Bearthoughts Just so everybody's clear: There are no triplets being played in this entire video. Grouping 16th notes, 8th notes, etc, in 3s is quite different than triplets. More specifically, in this video, the notes aren't really grouped in 3s anyway. There is a rest and then 3 notes | x B B S | x B B S | - The patter is still a 4-note pattern. On the rest, there is a cymbal/high-hat being played.

God I love this outro....I could put this section on repeat and listen only to it for like months :D I have stopped seeing comments about Axe live, so maybe he's gotten better since I saw them live but I remember noticing that it sounded like his double bass was very inconsistent on songs like Master's Apprentices and such, but that may have been the audio. But then I saw other people saying the same thing. *shrug* Just a thought. I need to see them again. :D
@Bearthoughts
@Bearthoughts 12 жыл бұрын
@TripleFermentation, I don't know what BejnaminProd said, but if you're talking about the ending of the beat he's playing 8th notes with his right hand and 8th triplets with between his right foot and left hand ( bass bass snare) and then plays it a little differently on the snare at the very end (plays it on the last hi-hat note of the beat)

Mikael even said that Lindgren didn't contribute much of anything while he was with Opeth. He said he didn't create anything, and just came up with a few solos. Akkeson (sp?) is a much better replacement. But yeah, Lopez's drumming captivates me much more than Axe's does. Opeth don't have that foreign feel any more with the Latin drumming, it's just flat out metal now.

@Bearthoughts This is a common misconception. You are correct in that he is playing 8th notes with his right hand, but the notes his left hand and bass are playing are 8th notes that are grouped in 3s (at the end of the pattern); they are not triplets, which is what the other person I replied to was saying.

I have to agree with schist99, the jazzy parts are hard, especially the "Deliverance, fall back at me...." part(the first one is not that difficult), I get confused if I try to play that part. This one can be done with a lot of rythem practicing and practicing the outro itself.
