I have 2 children on the spectrum, a girl and a boy both nonverbal. They’re teenagers now and ever since maliit pa sila ako ang nag aalaga at advocate nila. I’m a polio survivor at walang malapit na kamag anak dito sa Amerika kaya lahat kinakaya ko kasama ng 2 ko pang maliliit na mga anak ang pagpapalaki sa kanila. Ang tatay nila merong mental illness at addiction kaya madalas absent sa parenting at responsibilities. Pero kinakakaya ko dahil meron akong nakikita sa 2 autistic kong mga anak. They are so genuine and loving kahit pamana ang dami dami nilang hirap pinagdaraanan. I look at them as special breed of humans na di pa natin naintindihan masyado sa ngayon pero balang araw ay mauunawan natin ang reason at purpose nila sa mundo. Isa sa mga anak ko ay minsan aggressive dahil di nya masyado ma express ang kanyang sarili ngunit tinutulungan namin hanggang sa aming makakaya. I learned to live moment by moment everyday. I take it as a measure of faith, perseverance, and resilience sa mga magulang at kapamilya ng mga taong autistic. I have more days that I am gripped with fear of the future ngunit palagi akong pinaalala ng Panginoon na it is not my job to control these children’s future. Rather it is my responsibility at the moment to love them, care for them with everything in my power and He will take care of the rest. Dito ako kumukuha ng lakas at sana sa mga pamilya dyan na nahihirapan ng masyado sa araw araw intindihin at gawan ng solusyon ang mga challenges na kanilang kinakaharap, sana wag kayong bumitaw at laban lang. It is a beautiful journey of love in spite of the seeming pain. Be strong!

I can’t help my tears from falling because I also have a nephew who is special child and I truly agree with Martin that we don’t need to say sorry and make excuses for what the special child has doing because the society needs to know that they belong to us. Martin was really right. I am taking care of an autistic lady she is now 42 years old, non verbal. Dito sa America, very supportive ang government for this kind of case. The parents are hands on, however, one thing is bothering them, what if they are gone, which I could understand dahil kahit ako ay isang caregiver yun din ang iniisip. Taking care of a special person is very challenging. There is that kind of feeling that at the end of the day there is fulfillment in your heart.

Martin alam ko ang pakiramdam sa sinasabi nyo dahil may tatlo akong anak na nasa spectrum. Iba iba ang level nila. Yun din ang fear naming mag asawa kung sino ang kakalinga sa kanila sa aming pagtanda.🙏🙏🙏

Thank you for sharing your story, it's not easy to raise a child; let alone a "special child". Parents like us who has "special child", we are blessed because God gave them to us for a reason. But w/ God's guidance, prayers..our children will overcome whatever challenges they'll face.

2:14 I think part of living with it is to inform others that your child has special needs, so that they wouldn't think he's just 'spoiled' or 'misbehaving' Don't apologize, but just inform. Mas open minded na mga tao ngayon, that's why we can openly talk about these things already. The 'stigma' is getting more and more diminished. And to be fair, one big reason for that is kris aquino. '90s palang open na sya sa ADHD ni josh, kaya mas nagkaroon ng awareness mga tao re kids/people with special needs

I can definitely relate to martin's fear, "what will happen to my child when im gone? " coz i have a special child too, a down syndrome. I think that its every parents fear.

Martin's lucky, Santino too. May pera pamilya nila to help manage/address his ASD. Pambayad doctor/experts, therapies etc. Even resources for Satino's future etc. They're still better off, despite this challenge in their lives
