MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY TESTS MAZDA MX-5 CUP SERIES FOR POSSIBLE FUTURE RACE DATE

Martinsville Speedway, NASCAR, IMSA, the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series and its Drivers thought running a race on an oval for this series that has only ever run road courses might be a good idea.
So they decided to bring the cars to the half mile paperclip oval for a two-day test. The drivers testing were several of the series regulars but a few special guests also. Dale Earnhardt Jr. took about a dozen laps, Bobby Labonte and Martinsvillle Track President, Clay Campbell also jumped in to practice these convertible stock cars.
I chatted with Dale Jr, Clay Campbell, Bobby Labonte and team owner/driver, Chad McCumbee about how this all came together and why it could and should become a reality at Martinsville Speedway.

I would love if they did a weekend where the modifieds,Late Models and Mx5 cars all just took over…..until they get the cup cars short track problems figured out i dont even wanna try and watch a cup race at martinville

Need an oval only mx5 series with a NASCAR. Daytona 1, Bristol 1, Martinsville 1, Dover, Talladega 2, Kansas 2, Miami and Phoenix

Nah they need smaller tracks. Go to local tracks. I’d sub Montgomery for Dega for the Alabama date

Been watching MX-5 cup for years. I watch the KZfaqs of every race on events I don't see live. It's about as pure as it gets. I make a point not to miss them live at Road Atlanta and Daytona (road course) because the lead changes every lap and MOV.s are in the 0.00X range.

Looks pretty awesome. I'm a circle track guy, I always thought or wish is more like it, to jump in a scca car the mazda class always was appealing. Pretty awesome to see Dale jr and Bobby running Martinsville in those things. The real test is if they can handle going backwards into the fence. But on a better note. Imagine these things at Charlotte... drafting..... how do I get one!

They race on the Daytona road course as a support race to the Rolex 24 In the past couple years they have had some pretty hard hits there on the oval part of the track and everyone was ok

they were always the MX-5, they were just named differently for the States and such was called the "miata" there, and now those restrictions are not in place so they switched to the "MX-5" base name, its still a miata by location, I know people who still call them miata's

Would love to see nascar get rid of the stupid cars they use. Every week they should drive a different kind of car that they have never driven prepaired for them by someone not their team like Tony Stewart’s series.
