At this point i have no idea what fights are "good" for protoss. Pros find them sometimes, but i just dont see any difference :

SCVs make the best support worker bc they have slightly higher HP, and once the terran invests in orbitals they can afford to lose a few~

When you 'pull the boys' and pull a large number of SCV's (relative to your total count), especially so early in the game, like 6-7 minute mark, you are doing an 'all in' attack. If the attack fails, you will have lost a large number of your total SCV's, at an early point in the game, and won't have enough orbitals to drop mules, so you will be so far behind at this point in the game, you 99% won't be able recover and win from there. So it's basically a gamble all-in attack, but it pushes any fight in your favour at the same time, since the SCV's help by absorbing a large amount of enemy shots (plus they can contribute some additional attack damage), thus extending the life and fire-power of your army vs the enemies army, since even absorbing a hypothetical 10% of the enemies attacks can be the difference between winning and losing in a fight between all of your units vs all of their units (and in some fights they likely absorb much more than 10%). So this is why we see these pulls, it is a viable strategy for early game ending pushes.

should be noted we only ever see these pulls for terran vs protoss. This is because protoss can defend with less units given batteries and super battery. So even if you have higher units, and go for a game-ending attack, a protoss can still defend and win the engagement despite having less units than the attacker. It's also given the units. For example: Terran will never pull the boys vs zerg, simply due to banes and other units being able to take them out easily, the strat is not effective. Nor do you see it in terran vs terran (if they do use SCV's' in offence in TvT and TvZ, it's to repair units (to sustain tanks, cyclones, medivacs in the attack) and/or to build turrets to solidify a siege position etc. You won't see the mass lumping together and attacking like we did in this vid). The pull the boys strat, as it was done at 27:17, is only really a viable strat and seen in terran vs protoss.

@@Jez4prez1 You're right about most things here but it's simply not true that we only see these SCV pulls for Terran vs Protoss, it's quite common against Zerg too. SCVs might die to banelings, sure, but it takes 3 banes to kill an scv, and much better to absorb those with scvs than marines - and the zerg doesn't always go for banelings every game, sometimes it's roaches or lair tech. Second, "all in" =/= "has to kill opponent or die trying." Yes, most SCV pulls are all-in where they HAVE to do damage. But it's not do or die either. Most SCV pulls, if you watch the games, are about half the terran's SCVs, 15 to 20. In these cases, it's not so much a gamble as it is a requirement - if the attack can kill at least that many opponent's workers alongside some of the army or a base, it's a success! Delays the tech of the Protoss or the economy of the Zerg, and you can go back home and 'macro it out' as winter says. It's not at all a requirement for it to be a Game Ending Attack, it just 'Has to Do Damage'
