By the time you’ve watched this video, there’ll be little mystery to the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno. NEXA’s premium hatchback has been extremely popular since 2015, with one Baleno sold every three minutes since it was launched. It’s also quite a contentious subject in the KZfaq comments section as you may have seen or will see on this very video.
However, there’s an important question that the brochure won’t necessarily answer - does this feel like a brand new car? The way an “all-new” Baleno should?

As a guy who liked the Baleno hatchback as a mostly-complete family car but hated the *relative* lack of safety in the previous generations, I'm *VERY* surprised to see 6 airbags in it (structural enhancements are a requirement for that many airbags, so it surely has become better)! Now we can finally have safe Maruti cars. Great job done by them!

I too am a bit confused with compromises they brought to the sigma variant… I felt the top spec sigma of the older car was better… that cvt and mild hybrid combo is a better match than this setup for city rides…. Anyways, like hyundai, maruti should have provided more gearbox options… Anyways, this will sell like hot cakes since its better valued and its a maruti

The new Baleno looks stunning and the road presence looks amazing as well. What is disappointing is that the CVT has been replaced by AGS ..which in my opinion is inferior when compared with CVT or a traditional torque converter. I had a terrible experience with Celerio AMT and finally had to discard the car and go in for a Hyundai i10 AT. Maruti should rething it's decision to introduce AGS on Baleno when it has categorised Baleno as a premium hatch back.

Awesome review by Tushar. The Baleno could not have been reviewed in a better way than this. I always watch Zigwheels review of any new car which comes in India. Finally I found someone who loves the engine grunt of a car just like me!

Just Booked my Luxe Beige Baleno Alpha Manual today...90 days waiting....anyways wish me luck .....my first ever car....but i also love i20....both are fab cars....and right now, the prices between baleno and i20 are almost identical.... infact if you ask me, i20 is more VFM....for same price it is giving you a bigger touchscreen, Bose Sound system compared to Arkamys....a sunroof.....yes Baleno has a 360 cam and a HUD..but I would prefer the feature list of i20.... it's just that where I live the maruti network is much stronger and the workshop and this dealership is next door and also a friend of mine had an i20 elite and she told me her ownership experience was subpar in terms of reliability of the car...so i choose baleno...and also in this Luxe Beige colour, the Baleno just looks top notch..even better than i20 imho.... but of course looks are subjective....I agree with most of your points..I test road both of them for over 10 kms...multiple times....before making a choice...the tractability of baleno's engine is much better than i20...in terms of Naturally Aspirated options...i20 does have better high speed stability and brakes...but in terms of space, i20 is more spacious, sure the boot is a little smaller, but the rear seat space is unmatched, even putting some sub compact SUVs to shame... i20 also has a lot of creature comforts such as wireless charger, air purifier and the list goes on....Baleno does have slightly better seats... it's almost inseparable, like king kong vs godzilla.... anyways both are fantastic cars, anyone will be happy with either...and both are evenly priced as well with good dealer/service network and very acceptable ownership costs...i20 was released in 2019, maybe it is due for a minor update...

AMT is affordable. So good solution to provide automatic option without increasing price and at same time providing more safety options within same old price range. going for Torque converter or DCT will increase price up to 2 lakhs. we can see competitors are offering better automatic but not affordable. Almost 13 to 14 lakhs on road price. I don’t expect Altoz automatic model is going to be in affordable option once it launched.

My 2 weeks driving experience of this car tells its not for enthusiasist driving, but for the smooth riders its like sipping whisky on the rocks it just flows quite and seamless, for amt exactly like he said its the most advanced amt. I used to be a rough manual driver but this new baleno pampered me to be smooth and relaxed driving style.

Altroz automatic is going to be offered only in Turbo model. Then the price will be around 14 lakhs on road.

Pretty sure Automatic sales are gonna drop, while the usual manual base n mid variant sales still gonna be the same. With Altrozs upcoming DCT variant every other car in the segment is gonna have a hard time

While many might be disappointed with AMT and are writing obituaries, there's no doubt that the Baleno will continue to be sales blockbuster. Reasons: 1. The ridiculously high prices of the competition. i20 is at now Rs 14L, while the i20 N-line is almost 15L. In comparison, the Baleno will cost less than 12L. (all prices OTR). The Tata Altroz is a worthy competitor, but with news that the automatic might not come with the turbo variant, this might be a potential turn-off for buyers. Also, the DCT/TC/CVT whichever becomes the "gold standard" will surely push prices to the Rs. 12+L territory. 2. The Baleno has proved to be a very good product, despite the usual Maruti tactics of meeting price points. 3. The new variant, as many have reviewed, is a grounds-up re-engineering work but the team ensured to retain the essential "Baleno"ness. Like what RE did with the Classic. Kudos to the Suzuki team for that. 4. Finally, the fact that Maruti managed to pack so many safety and tech features at similar prices is in itself a remarkable achievement. More bang for buck for the customer. Regarding the AMT, personally I'm not sure right now if this was a good move. From a business perspective, it is a genius move. Perhaps, it might dissuade a few buyers. But on the other hand, it will bring in thousands of new buyers who are looking for a budget premium hatchback, and not for racing thrills. Also, certain users did report issues with the previous CVT gearbox. It was evident that Suzuki was not so keen on CVT, and are betting big on AMT. With every new product, we are hearing news on improvements in their AMT. Makes sense that they would want to introduce this technology in their premium products gradually. My thoughts are like this: Maruti has a winner in their hands with the new Baleno. Maybe in future, they should come up with an additional variant, that has a Turbo engine and a 6-speed TC/DCT gearbox so as to pacify the enthusiasts. Akin to the i20 N-line.

Mass Market dwarfs enthusiasts like us. Look what happened with Baleno RS. This will sell like hotcakes like you said and this AMT offered seems perfect for sedate drivers, which are most of MS' customers. It even delivers better mileage, so why not.

Have you any empathy for people with leg/knee problems? For those elderly individuals? For those people working 8-10hours and being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic in metropolitan cities? And all those people who cannot afford proper AT Torque converters, CVTs or DCTs - most of which, come at a premium and offer less mileage + increased cost of repair. Also, AMTs have improved drastically - and all these people buying them drive sedately, not enthusiastically where AMT's jerkiness gets exposed. But they're minimizing and refining that too. Think bigger, man.

@@Fs99al my father gets stuck while coming from work in choking traffic but he still drives a manual. If one has so leg problems that one can't even put the slightest work to his calves then really he or she should stop driving these thiggs really don't matter much. Its just a ploy to sell something which demands more maintainence. Semi auto transmissions were meant for sports car to give those racers some ease considering it's about fraction of seconds where one can downshift and upshift quickly. Gradually it was introduced for women so they can drive too. And now I see normal people buying it. This AT obsession has ruined the simplicity which the manual transmission had in passenger vehicles. FYI for disabled the pedals placement and orientation is changed and not every disabled can use it intuitively and tbh in such cases it's better they should be driven around by a chaeffuer cuz it's neither safe for them or everyone else on the road when they have problems in driving. Its not about thinking big it's about thinking whether these really do apply to the real world. How many people really buy an AT cuz they can't even put the slightest work to their calves people now buy it cuz they think it's premium they don't buy for any comfort if they want comfort then have a chauffeur for oneself. These kinda things make one laze and promote laziness and reduce your concentration from the road which I think is the most important thing to drive safely and let others be safe also. This lack of concentration and awareness and alertness on roads is the reason we have so many accidents caused by human error while driving. And sadly these accidents sometime even take lives of the ones who are driving with concentration and focus too. ATs is just fixing something which was, is and never will be broken. Its better than AT in every aspect maintenance, economical, swapping, usage, involving, mechanical etc.

@@SanjayVinayak for EV's time will come it's just govt imposing or trying to impose them on public right now. For sake of reducing their expenditure they are telling people that buy an EV of 15L we will provide subsidies etc. The problem with EV is gonna be it's life. A ICE engine can last upto quite a long time if the current discriminatory limits for diesel that is 10 yrs and for petrol 15 yrs is not taken into account it's quite doubtful that an EV may not last even 10yrs due to repetitive charging and discharging which detiorates battery life of Li ion battery packs the performance of EV will decrease after just 3 yrs significantly. Obviously changing battery packs will be its solution but will it be economical. Well quite not. Li ion battery are costly due to use of Li, Manganese etc which aren't abundant like aluminum or iron and take time and effort while manufacturing for making it to the final product of battery pack . Currently, especially in India EV mkt is growing if one can afford 15L they can surely go for EV after all efficiency of EV's are far superior than ICE but for public at large EV isn't taking over ICE atleast till 2030, it's after that the EV may takeover ICE.

I agree well made manuals are extremely fun and everyone must learn how to drive stick, but there is absolutely no reason to force MT on anybody. I might be extrapolating but, according to you, a car must only be a means of transport from A to B. No music system, in car entertainment, no feature no comfort or convenience, nothing except shifting gears and driving. That is rather sad and unfortunate, sorry.
