Fantastic video, like usual! Thanks so much for getting the word out about this game. I’m really excited for it. I’d love to hear how your future games go (or even see another play of this one) to see what a game with more typical dice luck would look like. I wonder if it was all luck or if maybe Red Skull is too easy, or the heroes/aspects you used are OP, or both, or neither and it was just crazy dice.
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
I’m playing again this weekend, but I also wonder if this hero combo was OP. Even without the luck Carol puts out crazy damage, T’chala defies consistently, they both have great mobility, etc. And it seems like Red Skull’s whole thing is pressuring you on bases, and if that pressure doesn’t go anywhere…
@steves1092
@steves1092 Жыл бұрын
Yes, could be. I also wonder if it’s a matter of the game just being very swingy with low player counts. That’s often the case with coops, and I don’t even mind it, really.
@OneStopCoopShop

@steves1092 the spawning definitely swings a lot for 1-3 players. With 4 players you spawn 2 enemies per round so their strength can be better balanced

Thanks for another entertaining video. Although I have not having played either, game , it appears to be very similar to Pandemic: Star Wars: The Clone Wars in basic mechanics.

I'd agree to an extent. I find the actions a bit more interesting here (and you don't have the card management stuff from pandemic), but yeah this game reminds me most of the Star Wars and World of Warcraft Pandemic games.

Thanks for this. I too am looking forward to your review. This is really the first I've heard of this game. I like the aspect cards which have echoes of the system from Warhammer Quest/Heroes of Terrinoth. The Fight/Defy/Rest/Explore kind of feeling. Not as strong as in those other games in that you can do it multiple times here. I like how it gives you even different ways to play the same characters. Not sure it is for me. I think I will have my fill of Marvel games with United coming in the fall. But still amazing to watch you play.
@OneStopCoopShop

This is certainly a more epic game than United (that one tends to play in a crisp 30 minutes). Besides the marvel theme, I wouldn’t really compare the two ;)

Looks very interesting, and I like that there is a lot of heroes available, but for my personal taste it looks like it’s much more complex than United but without having the narrative aspect of something like Eldritch Horror, so I probably wouldn’t have much motivation to dedicate much time to it. Plus, while the illustrations are nice, the board itself looks absolutely boring and generic, which is kind of a shame. Added to the lack of minis (like United or Pandemic Clone Wars) it really does not stand out enough for me. I would still like to play it for myself though, I know a video is probably not enough to cast judgement on it. I will wait for your review as well! Thank you for the video!

This looks interesting although I will say, for the weight of the game, I think I'd rather be playing Marvel United? Similar overall depth but MU feels quicker to play.
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
This is certainly a longer, more epic game, and I like the more freeform action selection over MU's card play. But MU certainly packs more tactical choices in an efficient package.

Thank for the playthrough. It's too bad it has less storytelling than Eldritch, since that's one of the main attractions for me. That and the building up of assets which this seems to have less of. It seems like the randomness of success/failure leads to some snowballing on difficulty?
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think all of those points are accurate so far. I’m still evaluating how much of an issue the snowballing is… hopefully this was as much of an outlier as it seemed.
@PickleTheHutt
@PickleTheHutt Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike. It seems to me to be very mechanical and at no point did I really feel the theme at all (a big negative for me). I know you said you like it, but does it feel thematic at all to you or mostly just an action optimization exercise (with a heavy dose of randomness on top) with Marvel art? While I'm sure the gameplay is more engaging than Mutant Insurrection, both seem to share a lack of any thematic engagement.
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
I agree this one is more of a mechanical game/tactical puzzle than something like Arkham horror, though I think the hero powers and enemies offer opportunities for emergent story and fun moments if players want to invest energy into creating them :)
@PickleTheHutt
@PickleTheHutt Жыл бұрын
@@OneStopCoopShop Thanks. I'm probably going to cancel my pre-order. The writing on those events cards is really cringeworthy and pales in comparison to what you find in Eldritch Horror. Even though I vastly prefer Marvel to Lovecraft, EH just seems better in every way except game length (and card bloat if you happen to own it all).
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
@PickleTheHutt I think for thematic experience you aren’t going to beat EH with this one. But I think the actual actions and strategy here are more interesting. So it’s going to be different strokes for different folks :)

@OneStopCoopShop

I think it's quite a bit more expensive, in the $80-100 range. To be fair, you get way more characters, and I find the bosses more varied than in the Pandemic games you mentioned, but it's not as cheap.

They are very different games, despite the theme. That being said, personally I like Marvel champions better for 1-2 players, and overall. But if I have 3-5 people I’d probably play dagger, cause champions drags a ton at higher player counts, at least in my experience

Looked like a few camera cuts after rolling dice. So I have to ask, did you manipulate the dice rolls to make the game seem fairer / more exciting? It's fine if you did but might give the wrong impression to the average play through if you did. Other than that, a great video and considering how little info there is on this game, it's cool to see it in action.

Wait ... If a hero is defeated, you simply flip to their alter-ego side, which is basically a completely different character??? Isn't that just weird???

The first time you're defeated you flip to your opposite side, lose your unique upgrade (if you earned it), and increase threat. The second time you are actually out and the rest of the players how one more round to win.

@@OneStopCoopShop I just find it strange that heroes come in pairs this way and if one goes out, the other steps in. Thought it would be a healthy-strong side and a wounded-weaker side of the same hero.

@OneStopCoopShop

Despite them both being FFG, I think they are VERY different games. Eldritch is more about the experience, narrative, random encounters, etc. This one feels more tactical, has more interesting character builds, and has you doing more on your turn, but lacks the narrative flair, encounters, etc.
