I think in this original suit, the hand-repulsors are more used for magnetism powers.

They fully painted that Ultron silver. And it looks great. So I don’t know why that’s a one-off thing.

Back in 1962 the chest piece was called a monobeam and it was yellow with no blue at all it was used as a portable proton beam and search light or heat ray. Back in 1962 there were no repulsor beams till Model 3 so those were lights and or flight stabilizers and they were yellow or white in color everything was powered by miniature batteries not repulsor tech or arch reactor tech

I can't argue with you on anything, but I managed to pick this up for regular Legends price and I'm really happy with it. Then again I'm in the middle of giving all my swirly plastic Iron Man figures super shiny custom paint jobs for fun.

Thanks for the review on this one Anthony. Your opinions on the value of a $30 action figure are a bullseye. So to compare between somewhat similar styles, imagine what Marvel Select would have done with this character? The prices between this product and MS would be $30. Accessories between the two would also be tremendously different raising the overall worth. It puzzles me that Hasbro's decision-makers determined, under their "Fans Come First" banner, that more for less would be a consumer's responsibility.

My problem with Hasbro's Marvel Legends pricing as whole is that they haven't added anything new to the table since they took over from ToyBiz. Their proportions almost always beat out ToyBiz's figures, but like Anthony said before, "It doesn't cost more to make the proportions correct." But as far as sculpting, costume details, paint apps, Hasbro is basically competing with 90s ToyBiz figures. Also, the only new articulation that Hasbro ML has compared to ToyBiz is ball peg legs and that style of ankle pivot. As much as I love ToyBiz, I still wouldn't buy their figures for $24 MSRP, because Marvel Legends are not worth that much. So why would I want to buy Hasbro's inferior figures for even $20?

The fact that they're expecting people to pay £28.99 for this here in the UK is wild. I admit it's a good sculpt and is probably as well articulated as it could be given the design limitations but for that much it's a huge pass and I'm a long time Iron Man fan and collector

The figure looks great to me. I always liked his amoeba suit, especially when it was gold. my biggest gripe with their swirly twirly plastics is often theyre soft as Hell. My Iron Man 2020's knee sheared off and so did the thigh peg. As a kid I read some old first adventures of Iron Man, reprinted in the UK. I can't remember him having repulsors or flying. I do remember the roller skates. The would've been a fun accessory. I think all Marvel Legends are approx worth half of what Hasbro charges. Why no Tony Stark head? The 80 Years one would've suited this.

New molds are always appreciated and welcomed; however, I do not personally believe that inflating the price of an already overpriced still basic action figure by a few American dollars and/or British pound sterling warrants the price increase. It is absurd. But the Hasbro higher ups in suits will be reveling in monetary gain, due to blind consumers’ pockets/wallets. Despite the Mark 01’s basic, uninspired design, I do quite fancy the figure. The sculpt is new and it is nice. This is already a middle ground, everyone thinks he needs to be silver, but there is dialogue in the original issues that mention that people were scared of iron man because he was a lumbering flat grey machine. That's why he spray painted the suit gold. Now if they put it back out and don't paint the gold, then there's an issue. I think the plastic color is a perfect middle ground for me.

I would love to see you review the diamond select silver centurion Iron Man figure around the same price at 29.99 but you get so much more for your dollar it’s insane

Hey Anthony, I think they nailed this one's sculpt except the hands and head could be slightly, just slightly bigger to be more picture accurate. The plastic being painted would be better but a darker paint rather than silver definitely as this is supposed to be a clunker. Also yeah he didn't have repulsors at this time as this is literally issue 39 of Tales of Suspense only and he upgraded to a shiny gold color in the very next issue. A better accessory to include than the effects would be a flamethrower flame stream and a small spout that mounts onto the wrist area. That's how he blows up Wong-chu's base and basically Wong-chu himself at the end of the comic.

Appreciate the review. Had no idea this cost more than the usual Legends, and considering how it looks, I can't wait to see it on clearance by next year. As someone who loves painting silver, this seems like it'd be pretty fun to customize.

Is it me or could anyone else see abs on that thing when light hits it when he was moving it around? Almost like the old iron man torso is underneath the sculpt. Weird.

100% spot on review Anthony, they needed paint and the overcharge is absurd. I would also add that the head is proportionally too small, and they should have made the neck longer to allow for better articulation.

Here in Spain the prices go higher sometimes Neca or Jada are above Hasbro prices because of the distribution. Nevertheless as you said a new mold just not justify increasing the price, I could pay a couple of bucks more for a better figure, with better articulation, more accessories and better pain job.

If I recall correctly, the mark-1 did not have repulsors of any kind. I don't even think it had any sort of missiles or anyting in the comics I think he just beat everybody up and maybe took their guns I can't remember but I know he didn't have the hand repulsors

i got this on discount from Target during the purge last week. He still sat there for several days while everything else on discount sold. I went and grabbed a few more. I take this guy everywhere now, what an awesome figure.

That torso resistance may be your own figure. I'm not getting that with mine. But it feels a little "ratchet".

They are charging an extra few dollars to try out a higher price. They see if the customers will bite and then in while they make this the new normal price.

I think they went with the marble plastic so they could consider it tarnished weathering like paint layer in itself, since the idea of this suit was just made with SCRAPS, IN A CAVE, lol. Which I mean I don't mind it here but only in this case. Otherwise, I want painted metallics.. But yeah the pricing is so all over the place and so is the reasoning. I do love this fig though, I hate that the boot cut isn't there.

I have this figure and immediately hit it with a cheap can of silver acrylic spray paint and a black wash. The marbling is horrendous on this release, I loved the original ToyBiz MK1 Iron Man and that one aside from the long neck had a great paint job with lots of shading. Sorry for the rant, but it’s a $30 Iron Man figure, not a cheap Polar Lights model kit.

I was disappointed that this was a $30 fig with the bare bones. I’m going for an Silver Age/early Marvel aesthetic in my collection and while this looks/poses nice the price was just excessive. I’ll wait for the sale, Thanks Anthony.

Why are they not doing boot-cuts on new molds anymore? I thought this would become standard at some point just like pinless is becming standard for all new molds.

I thin k the silver plastic is fine. I do wish that they added some slight butterfly joints, as the sculpt kind of show them.

You need to start pulling out equivalently priced figures from other lines. Unique sculpt for $30, behold McFarlane or NECA $30 and it's like twice the size or 4x the paint My issue isn't that this looks bad. The bare plastic looks fine, the tampo too, but theres no knowing how improved it could look with full paint applications. And I'd even give it a pass if it was $20.

No way should they charge more for a new sculpt. I actually like this figure but i wont pay full price. If i can get it cheaper ill get it. Ill def airbrush it though

I think the paint looks good. I think the reason why they didn't paint it silver because it would paint chip And retail figures can't use clear coat. Not all unpainted marble plastic is bad look at 3D printed abs marble plastic it looks beautiful.

the repulsor blasts glow in some artworks but it’s yellow from a source image i found, same with his arc reactor in the original artwork from the first appearance, his arc reactor doesn’t glow so really, they should’ve given the option to have us put the effect pieces on the open hands

when I saw it in the shop I immediately grabbed it, but once I saw the price of £34.99 I froze and thought "that can't be right", checked it at the cash register and to my surprise it really was that bloody expensive, even on Hasbro Pulse UK it's £27.99, what the hell. In the end I still bought it(yeah, I know....I'm a sucker) cause I'm really into retro Iron Man armors, this one(and gold version too) being one of my favourites, but it still made me consider. Although the plastic doesn't look bad to me, I'm totally with you for a great paintjob. Even though the hands look like they have repulsors, to my knowledge this one didn't this tech, if memory serves right, I think it was model 3 or later model that debuted repulsors, but might be wrong on that. I still enjoy the figure and can't wait for gold version(with, hopefully, real gold paintjob🤞) to add to the founding Avengers. Thanks for great review

Was kinda hoping you would say what the lines on the thighs are. Mine came today and literally has the same exact lines, no way the plastic marbled in the exact same way on 2 different figures. For the qotd, I felt dirty buying this because it should have been a couple dollars cheaper, not my fault they choose to manufacture something that will require new molds.

With the exception of Spiral, I’ve completely checked out of the line. Even characters that should’ve been a must by for me, I’ve skipped because even the photos used to promote and sell the figures look bad.

Any chance you could review some Mezcos or even some Cosmic Legions? All the review channels seem to be fans and are just hard wired to like them. I know they're more expensive and you have limited resources, it's just that you've said enough about Marvel Legends and it's already clear what you're going to say before the review.

The price point is high, as it has no accessories, but at least the figure is really good. A repaint in red and gold would be cool to see in this mold.

I'll even give Hasbro that maybe the marvel license is more than something like the TMNT license for Neca...but you didn't even mention the accessories that a Neca figure comes with compared to what a Hasbro one comes with. So even if we're going to say that Neca has a cheaper license, the amount of paint and accessories they include with figures more than makes up for that license difference + the $5-10 dollar price difference, at least IMO. Getting into the NECA TMNT line has basically ruined my ability to collect anything else (Jada seems promising, I don't even like SF that much and that Ryu lives on my desk to mess with during work). Yeah, they don't articulate that well, but they sure as hell look like what I want them to look like. I think the NECA super shredder was 34.99. It might be 39.99 if they were to release it today...but when I compare that figure to anything Hasbro makes, it's night and day.

Going to wait until it drops way down in price on Amazon and still think about if the sale price justifies a purchase. At the end of it all, I'm the king of my wallet and companies like Hasbro have to kowtow to me with their offerings/prices (even when Amazon marks them down over 50%). I don't need them or their wares, especially since there are tons of lines out there with better value.

I think those three "hasbro team members" are ripping people off at this point. There are too many companies that charge decent prices for good product. I hate to use them, but neca does alot of new molding on their figures (not counting the 4 tmnt brothers but there's enough to their differences). I'm pretty sure neca is not as big as hasbro. Another company, jada toys. The new street fighter line, so far has alot of new sculpt and paint,... AND, they have Decent accessories. They could have cheaped out and gave ryu and fei long the same chest but they didn't. Bandai, probably a little on the expensive side, but they recreate alot of their figures for cheaper prices. If you look a standard goku figure, it's literally in line with the pricing from most marvel legends (around $34-38 depending on where you get it...) and comes with multiple faces and hands. I think if they would have paint this iron man like the ursa major BAF ultron (that is a good figure....), i think Anthony would have said the price was justified. People are excited for the new 97 x-men figures, but pardon my French, they (the new figures) look like shit. Oh yeah, and when shart asked if they would make less figures (30 a year instead of 100+ a year) that were better, those three idiots looked at him like "fool buy these overpriced figures and shut up".

Figures need to be oversized or loaded with accessories to warrant an increased price and this guy is/has neither. Or even an incredible deco. Paying extra for a new mold is pretty goofy; they already raised the price of the mainline enough.

This is probably one of the few new Marvel Legends figures that I like, but it's not a "yeah I'm gonna pay $38 for this thing" type of like. Yeah, this thing costs the equivalent to $38 dollars in my country and no, that's not the deluxe price, this figure has the same price as all the other "basic" ML figures, lol. These things are even more overpriced in Mexico so I'm definitely not happy with Hasbro's weird prices.

The licensing with Disney/Marvel might be the problem. While a lot of companies do have licensing deals I think Disney is greedier with their profit margins post-Covid just because of how much money they're spending and loosing. i honestly would love to know more about Hasbro's business but they are so secretive and shy about it. This figure in Canada is 35,99$ when in large stock, and the more they sell out, the more the price sky rockets. I would never pay 40$ bucks for a figure that has so much marbling in the plastic and barely any paint. We work hard for our money and the cost of living has been higher than ever atm.

Here’s the problem. These licenses shouldn’t be exclusive to one toy company. They’re not in Japan. Why are they here in the United States when we’re supposed to be the free market capital of the world? We collect 6.5” scale marvel action figures. Hasbro has a monopoly on 6.5” Marvel action figures. So what is the answer? Well, most of us are buying far less figures than we used to, at least at full price, because the value is simply not there, and it shows. I could have bought the entire Controller wave at Ollie’s the other day for $75 out the door. Does this mean Hasbro is going to start giving us better quality at a lower price or even at the same price? I sincerely doubt it. It probably means that they’ll simply take their ball and go home. That’s my long winded way of giving my answer to the Q of the Day which is “I feel a lot better about paying $28 for this Iron Man than I would paying $25 for the last three retro Spider-Man wave figures you reviewed, but that’s not saying much about the product or me as a consumer.”

As cool as this figure is the price point is not justified here…. If Marvel Select made this not only would it be 7 inch scale with painted silver from head to toe it would sell for roughly 25 bucks so Hasbro definitely overpriced this as usual.

I've heard reviewers say Marvel Legends are (where I live) $24 because Disney keeps wanting more money from ML sales... so then why tf are GI Joe and Power Rangers -IPs Hasbro fully owns - also being sold at $24? Because Hasbro is just the worse.

Yeah I absolutely hate when they charge more for these like specialty waves, at least in the case of avengers a lot of the singles that they're doing have new parts with slightly less reuse possibilities (in the case of character specific parts), but I really took a lot of issue with the Spider-Man ones, since all of those bodies will be reused over and over, so why would I pay a premium on top of a premium, for something that's going to be reused on kid omega and crap like that
