Dark World has its moments - agree that Ultron was well done

The problem with mcu villains is thanos was the only one to really get a character arc. A villain like ultron deserves more than one solo movie. They did such a fantastic job making us care about the heroes and didn’t rush an avengers movie like DC did with the justice league

I thought it was as a good twist, but not everyone agreed

The concept wasn't the problem for me. The issue was in the execution. I was fine with them updating the character to be mocking of his Fu Manchu-stereotype origins and going in a different direction. My problem was in the fact that they set up the new Mandarin as a great threat, taking familiar terrorism iconography [making Sir Ben Kingsley's interpretation into more of an Osama bin-Laden type who pokes fun at the symbols of the Avengers] and turning American associations of "Far East/Orient/Asian/Chinese-Japanese" etc. culture on their heads - and substitutes him for Killian as the main villain. I see why they'd want to get away from Mandarin's starting point, but it's like trading one stereotype bad guy for another (in this case the "evil White American corporate executive/businessman"). It took the coolness away from what Sir Kingsley was doing and siphoned it to Guy Pearce's character [who, while Pearce did a good job with the role, was severely underwritten and had most of his motivation cribbed from Jim Carrey's "Batman Forever" arc as the Riddler]. If I was to rewrite the movie, I would have had everything stay in place, except have "Trevor Slattery" (the actor posing as Mandarin) kill Guy Pearce's character, revealing himself to be the real "Aldrich Killian" as an additional fake-out. That way, you could still have the "Mandarin's just a product of imagined global threat/terrorist fears" twist *without* diminishing was Sir Kingsley did with the part. Plus it'd be more reflective of our world as it is today (that we have - moral or otherwise - titans of capitalism from all backgrounds of affluence, not just Caucasians).
