The second book Frank is reading in the episode 1 is the Crack-up, a collections of essays be F. Scott Fitzgerald. The french philosopher Deleuze used this expression to describe the freudian Death drive (our impulse to self-destruction) moments before Frank became the Punisher for the second time.

There's in error in one of the easter eggs. Frank spray painting the skull insignia on a vest is not a reference to the 2004 film, it's a reference to 1994's Punisher: Year One which is where this is originally seen and in turn referenced in both the film and Netflix series. Sorry, I'm a die-hard fan who couldn't help notice and get the real facts out there.

@MaxCarney47
@MaxCarney47 6 жыл бұрын
This is very true. I just noted this one as the most apparent and possibly iconic example given the context of the show. The main point potentially being the series makes more references to the comics than it's given credit for. People should realize there's decades of stories for this character and not just a short list of movies.

SPOILER WARNING: In the first episode, we get yet another indicator of the timeline. While Frank is pounding down the walls with his trusty sledge, we see in the back that the Empire State Building is lit red. If you remember, in Defenders, after Daredevil's supposed death, the Empire State Building was lit red in the morning of the loss of The Man Without Fear. This information can be marked in tandem with the newspaper article.

One thing that I’m a little confused about: why was there no mention of Matt? I really thought Karen would have said something.
@Loganthetexan
@Loganthetexan 6 жыл бұрын
I'd say this. Few people knew that Matt was Daredevil, and that includes Punisher. Furthermore, although Karen cares about Matt, Punisher and Matt Murdock didn't leave on good terms. Finally, I think this video said it, but Punisher takes place in Queens, and apparently, in the MCU, if you are more than a few blocks away from each other, things go unnoticed.
@MsRegPhalange

CanUCraft Rosas That makes sense, I forgot that Frank only knows Matt as Daredevil. I guess I just thought Karen would be affected somehow. I think having a different show runner probably had something to do with it too.

Those spring-loaded devices were around long before those awful videogames. I didn't think about them once when I saw that being used. I just thought it was just another generic weapon used in many of these kinds of stories, hidden blade, hidden gun, somehow never setting off a metal detector or being spotted in a patdown or anything.

SORT OF AN EASTER EGG (I hope I wasn't the only one who peeped this!): In the scene where Frank kills Rawlins, did anybody notice that the music that was playing in the background sounded VERY SIMILAR to that one scene in 28 Days Later when Jim killed one of the soldiers? Ironically enough, both characters performed THE SAME ACT to kill their enemies!!! So I'm guessing that was probably a nod to the movie, perhaps?

there's another one, the wrist blade Billy uses is actually the favorite weapon of comic Rawlins, he would play weak and surrendered just like Billy did with Stein, and when chance opportuned, he'd slice his opponent's throat open. Also the scar on his left eye Frank left him is a quick nod to the eye-patch wearing Rawlins in the comics. Personally, i think Billy in the tv series took a lot from Rawlins in the comic version, the looks, the personality, the wit and the smirkiness, all just like Rawlins. I'd recommend anyone who's interested in The Punisher and have no idea where to start. Read Garth Ennis's The Punisher Max first, that's where i first got truly know and immersed into this anti-hero. The narrative is so dark and gritty and suits the chatacter really well, and the villians are so amazing that really helps support the otherwise kinda bland Frank Castle, Nicky Cavella, Barracuda, The Man of Stone, Rawlins, i'd love to see these guys in the next season. Would be a blast seeing these guys go toe to toe with Frank in the live action.

Ironically enough, the actor who plays Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) has actually portrayed Dorian Grey on the big screen. He was in “the league of extraordinary gentlemen” I believe. So that could also be why he’s reading “The Picture of Dorian Grey” as a nod to his previous role that ends up being ironic.

"A Man of Wealth and Taste" is also the title for a Punisher story arc where Jigsaw makes a deal with a "devil" to heal his face. Frank remedies that later with a cactus.

Great catch. The Rev from that storyline is one of the best of the few recurring villains from the Punisher's first solo series. I'd love to see Frank go after the Rev's cult next season.

I'd say there was a Game of thrones Easter egg in ep 12, when Frank killed Rawlins, just like the Mountain killed the Red Viper, as in got the drop on him, pushed his eyes in and fell next to him half dead, and then survived just like we found out the Mountain did
