Want to learn how to play as the Demon Hunter, Dante from the beloved Devil May Cry series? You’ve come to the right place. This video introduces players to the basic strategies a Dante player should have as well as two combos to get you started. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions if you have them, I’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
Simple Combo: u, air dash xx j.jp, lp - hp xx f.hp, d.d + hp, u, qcf lp, d.d + hp, d.d + hp, qcf lp + hp
Advanced Combo: u, j.hk xx air dash, j.hp xx d + hk, lp - hp xx f.hp, d.d + hp, j.lp - j.hp, air dash xx j.hp, u, j.lp - j.hp, qcf + j.lp, hp xx d.d + hp, d.d + hp, qcf lp + hp
(I have no idea how to write the inputs, I'd appreciate if someone helped me out!)

Ultra noob question, new to the fgc scene. In your guides you have "xx" after some of the stuff. What is this referring to?

Hey, everyone has to start somewhere. The 'xx' means you have to cancel into something, so when I say something like "air dash xx j.jp" it just means you cut the air dash animation short to do the next move.

Hey I’m trying to understand the terminology of HK and LK, HP and LP with the buttons on ps4. You mind telling me. I don’t have PS4 but when I did have MvC 3 i did play with Donte. Also would you know how to do air team combos like on the last MvC where each one would come in 1 at a time and take you all the way up?

Hey. When it comes to LP (light punch)/HP (heavy punch)/LK (light kick)/HK (heavy kick), those four commands are the buttons on your controller/arcade stick. Air team combos are also present in MvC: Infinite, though they aren't as extreme as the previous game because are you limited to two characters instead of three. One question because I see people do it. How do you chain Volcano into Revolver? Every time I press HP, he does beehive, even with a move input.

The first combo looks like "U, dash, hp, lp, f.hp etc etc what is the j.jp? He uses u for jump so I am lost.

How do you do more than one dash or jump in the air at 1:57?

Hey! I'm really sorry for getting back to you so late, I didn't see your message until now. I hope I'm not too late with this answer... When you do an air dash with Dante, you are able to do a second jump in the air. You tell you've performed a double jump because you'll see the red circle appear under Dante. If you still need help, just let me know and I'll get back to you ASAP.

1:58 when I launch him in the air and do the LP-HP and then dash HP misses ,tips for that ?

Nortmen100 Are you sure you are close enough? Sometimes if you are too far away it may not hit. Other than that, maybe you need to input the moves faster? Let me know how it goes :)

Sorry, dude. I've been playing fighting games for ages now so I don't really have that perspective. Still, that combo is very good, if you do manage to learn it I'm sure your damage output with Dante will be crazy.

Erased Citizens what the... you’re really fast at replying. Sorry, I’m a bit salty, I just can’t beat my brother in this game, out of the maybe 20 matches we did I only won 6 (we’re both moderately new to the game), I guess he can button mash better than I can.

That's cool, man! Trust me, I know the feeling. I usually play these games with my brother too. If you've decided to pick Dante then you've kinda made it hard for yourself because he is a very difficult/complex character. That being said, with a bit of training it shouldn't take you too long to master that combo.

Erased Citizens I tried every character in a match or two and I won’t mind taking up Strider or Chun-lee as well. Also like I said earlier it is a bit scary how fast you replied.

I've got the comment notifications on my phone so I can reply to them ASAP :) Those two characters are also quite complicated, but again, just practice and you'll get the hang of it. Stick with Dante if you reckon you'll be playing this game for quite a bit, he has a high skill ceiling. That'll be helpful for you for when you imprpove at the game.

Erased this is a nice guide for new players but all this came from umvc3 also so stinger then volcano to setup good combo setups

I don't understand the use of j. You say u which I thought is up(meaning jump) but then you put j. I think that means jump. You write u,j,hk,xx air dash,j???? After I air dash how am I doing another jump?. I don't think everytime you put j I'm supposed to jump but that's the only thing I can think J means. Can someone explain cuz I have no idea what you want me to press for this combo. The use of so many J's confuse me

i realize this is 4 years late, but for future reference to whoever stumbles upon this by buying mvci while its on mega sale like me lol, when notating in this style you prefix the current character state to the move. that is to say, whenever we say j.hp, this is specifically referring to jumping heavy punch, or air heavy punch, it isnt a sequence to jump then press heavy punch. similarly, st.hp is standing heavy punch and cr.hp is crouching heavy punch, although people also tend to just omit the modifier for standing moves so instead of st.hp they just write hp. an example of why this is necessary, say i wrote a combo like the following cr.hp>jc>lp>hp>hk>forward hp it isnt clear if the entire time you are meant to be in the air or if you had landed at some point, aside from the fact that you did jump cancel cr.hp. but if instead, we write it as cr.hp>jc>j.lp>j.hp>j.hk>forward hp we know that after the jump cancel, we stay in the air until the jump heavy kick, and then we land and do forward heavy punch.

A friend of mine once slapped a math teacher on the ass. We were sitting next to each other and the teacher got behind us to help someone in the row behind us, my friend didn't notice and spoke some words that aren't supposed to be said when a teacher is nearby, so I signaled him that someone is behind him. He fuckin turned around with momentum and BOOM! His Hands, Her Ass. The teacher just made a confused,but slightly aroused "uh". The teacher was a woman around 40-50 years pf age so you could imagine me trying so hard not to burst out with laughter

I'm just letting you know the only reason your combos are breaching 5000 without a super is because you're adding the air heavy punch and the air shotgun and rain storm before you start your combos. Without it, they do the same as the other bread and butter combos. And included with those "stupid" combos they do the same damage and meter building as YOUR combos. Good video nonetheless.

Uh, that day one MvC3 combo doesn't do the same damage or build the same meter, in fact, I actually show that in the video. You could add a j.hp into it but it wouldn't drastically bump up the amount of meter gain or damage done. Thanks for the compliment at the end :)
