They're not canon. Sure, they take almost 99% of the events of the Netflix shows as valid, but they aren't a 100% canon. This is just an example, the actress that was kingpin's partner is not the same.

@@dg_537It is cannon. Marvel used clips from the Daredevil show in there promos leasing up to this show and I think Vennesa is a recasting.

@@dg_537 So anything past after The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 1 ain't canon because Rhodey and Banner has different actors. Got it 👍 Recasting exists and deal with the fact it's canon plus the shows were given an official timeline on when it takes place on Disney+ that should be enough to tell you it's canon only MCU related content are placed in that category.

I love how they adapted Maya to fit Alaqua Cox's physicality and made it part of her character.

@@PauloHowlett it’s a mix of both. If you keep trying to force an actor / actress into a box that defines the character they portray, you make the job harder for yourself. Remember these are “adaptations”- not the new defined versions of said character. Hugh Jackman plays a good Wolverine but this man is not short and stocky at all. The prospect of finding the perfect “Maya Lopez / Echo” is ideal but very potentially limiting.

The scene with her and her mom literally had me tearing. I haven’t teared about a marvel movie since Black Panther. Which btw I feel like that entire franchise totally opened marvel to acknowledging every culture properly. There were awesome action sequences and decent story telling. Is it perfect ? No but it was definitely better than I thought it would be.

Alaqua Cox does a great job and brings relatability to the Echo character. It was a fun and quick watch to get to know the MCU character.

For an origin story about a character who is inevitably going to be the "Natasha" of the street level Avengers team, this show nailed it. No, it wasn't filled with mindless action, but I happen to like slow burn origin stories because it gives us more information in which to care about the character.

Hot take: The show was terrible, from someone who enjoyed all the other Marvel shows and likes slow burners I dreaded watching this show cause the entire time I was asking “Why” like not in confusion, just why are we focusing on all this, I am fine with the family stuff, but the constant replaying of events from Hawkeye, and the fact that we have like 20 million things in the show to attempt to make Echo someone interesting, idrc if the comics are like something or whatever, but in the first episode we get a backstory of her family, how she lost her leg, her ancestry, her terrible life, and on top of that she’s been aBandonEd bY hER fAmIlY, just feels like the writers were like “random bullshit go” and they went for it, and then THE POWERS ONTOP OF IT INFLUENCING THE GRANDMOTHER AND HER BEST FRIEND, oh god I hated that more than Gya getting every power of the avengers and more in secret invasion! I should probably cope and just be like “idc” but I do care, this is apparently good, but it’s just so god awful, I had no expectations or anything, and I don’t understand how anyone can watch the show and be like “yeah that’s good” Sorry for the long message I’ve just been holding this in for the past 24 hours

I must say!! This is probably the best Marvel show out right now. It was actually better than a lot of their movies. I LOVE THE CAST. Especially “Maya and Kingpin”. Hope to see season 2.

Always love seeing the different cultures in the MCU. Black Panther, Shang Chi, Ms Marvel, Talokan, Kahorri's universe and now Echo. Marvel nails it every time. I hope we get more.

Marvel give Alaqua Cox MORE fight scenes because the few that were in the series were good but she can do so much more. I’m excited to see how Echo progresses in these street level stories.

Maya is just one of those under-utilized characters in the Marvel Universe because I guess no one knew what to do with her after David Mack. But Mack’s first few stories with her was just so special. It sold the character for me. I’m glad that the MCU decided to give new life to her. I love Alaqua Cox’s portrayal of echo and excited for what’s in store for the character. Still unsure about her new ancestor powers, but maybe it’ll grow on me.

Something I don’t really get (just to start I only saw the first episode) is how Kingpin is not in prison and still a crime lord.I mean at the end of the daredevil series,he agrees with DD to not go after him or his friends in order to keep his wife safe.

The fight choreography in the final battle between Echo and Kingpin was AMAZING! The way Echo slowly touched his chest with her fingers (to make him have a brief sad flashback from childhood) must’ve taken so many hours of practice. After four episodes of waiting, we could not have asked for a more amazing final battle! It was a fight for the ages. Thank you, Marvel!

That was actually such a deep fight. Fighting fire with water instead of fire. Trying to help Kingpin, but then scaring the big bad boss so much that it sent him running.. She beat him in a way daredevil or even spiderman could not!!
