Love both of these guys, I assume that Hagler agreed to all the terms of the fight so this is totally non issue. The biggest winner were the fans of two of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport.

Yup, and not only that. Sugar said it himself, I couldn't out right beat him! He went on to explain that he could only win by points. So he would through a barrage of punches while rushing into Hagler to tie him up so he wouldn't get hit. It was that bastard that ruined boxing and made it the clown shit how that it is today. Sugar Ray won the fight. I've watched it, at least 10 times. Close fight, but he deserved the victory. I think Hagler's corner hurt him by not pressing him harder. They acted like it was a walk in the park. Dundee > GP/PP, probably the difference.

Totally Agree. The money men in boxing didn't like hagler for some reason. The judges didn't either. He didn't get the respect he was due or deserved. As for Leonard... He was the promoters favourite because he created more box office. Leonard lost to Hearns in the second fight too, even though it was called a draw. Everyone knows hearns won that fight. As far as I'm concerned Hagler did not lose any fights, he was robbed.

Lol, you are talking nonsense! Leonard was clearly the smaller man & (as far as we know) never took performance enhancing drugs. Leonard, was & always has been, a career natural welterweight. You are right to call Hagler ‘thick’ set (perhaps another reason why he was so sturdy). However, not all the former welterweights that Hagler fought looked smaller than him - just look up the Hagler vs Hearns fight (Hearns looked huge, compared to Hagler, in that fight but lost badly by third round KO).

I watched the fight again this dawn. I am a HUGE Hagler fan however he lost at least 7 rounds to SLL. He gave away the first two fighting with a conventional right-handed stance instead of his normal southpaw stance. In essence he gave away the fight. If he carried one of those two rounds, he gets a draw at least. With that said, if we go by the old-time convention of you need to clearly and convincingly beat a champion to take his crown, a draw would have been an acceptable result and cued a rematch. However, SLL definitely did not lose that fight, sorry.

The WBC and corrupt Jose Sulaiman loved Leonard. Set up all the way. The one judge Jo Jo Guerra who gave almost all the rounds to Leonard disappeared right after the fight but eventually was again judging WBC fights. Leonard was a very good, not great In the history of boxing, but very good WW. He lost to Hagler. It also looked like Marvin was sometimes pulling his punches. The entire fight was fishy

Leonard took 8 rounds and you call that fight a robbery? First 5 rounds Leonard clearly won and you have to say he lost every round from 6 to 12?

I have watched it a few times and I have a boxing judges licence in Melbourne Australia. I have always scored it close. Once I scored a draw. Once Hagler 7 to 5 and once SRL 7 to 5.

@@danthaman03 which means at best it was a draw. as the champ you should be definitively beat. not run the entire round until the final 30 second throw a flurry and expect to get the round. it was a robbery

@@mattburton3233 the winner of the most rounds wins the fight. And the one who lands most scoring punches wins the round. Unfortunately in this case the judges may have swayed by the fact that SRL closed the round with a flurry. It could have gone either way. Like I said it was on my scorecard close all 3 times I watched it. One must score it with no bias which isn't easy. One may not want to see the champ lose when its close but you have to score each round as you see it with no consideration as to who won the previous rounds or any sentiment.

I kinda understand with what you are pointing to. Personally, I don’t believe neither Antuofermo nor Duran beat Hagler. However, I’ll just touch on two points: (1) During the Hagler vs Antuofermo fight 1, Hagler’s stamina & punch output faded along the stretch, while Antuofermo ‘came on’ (esp during the last rounds of that 15 round fight). (2) During the Hagler vs Duran, Duran won many of the early rounds & fought Hagler ‘right down to the wire’ during much of that fight. This time, Hagler had to come on strong to pull out the last 2 or 3 rounds of that 15 round fight. In conclusion, both Hagler vs Antuofermo 1 and Hagler vs Duran were VERY CLOSE fights.

Great fight but I didnt think hagler won. Leonards brain best haglers brawn. Fighters should win and loose gracefully. Hagler and Deonty wilder both great fighters and magnificent moaners . Hearns holyfield and leonard all lost in the past gracefully .
