Incredible how the first movie has better visual effects than the rest

Starship Troopers is the closest we've ever gotten to capturing a Tyranid invasion on film. (so far)

I like the idea that the warrior bugs aren’t soldiers as much as they are guided bullets fired by the soldier in command of the entire planet

I made my dad take me to see this as a kid. Told him it was a movie about aliens. Did not realize he had a massive fear of giant insects until that day. It was a great movie but my dad squirming in his chair the whole time made it so much better. 😂😂😂

I still see clips from this film and think, "Jesus that looks good for '97". Easily a decade ahead of it's time in CGI.

Friggin love the 1st film and enjoyed its hilarious commentary with the commercials and recruiting segments! Amazing film that deserves its fandom!

Watching this because I'm playing Helldivers 2

The warrior bugs terrified the hell out of me when I was a child, something about them being just a weapon with no ability to compromise, feel fear, mercy or remorse.

Dang, they covered a lot more than I thought they would. Sadly some were entirely off, like the water tiger bug. They don't fly and are entirely underwater, and they don't spit spikes. They were seen during the campaign against the spider-like bugs on the earth-like planet when the squad was after nursery bugs. However, I kind of wish they included each appearance per bug in different areas, such as the brain bug's different appearance from the movie and the tv series. Most bugs from the tv series were very different in appearance to the movie versions.

starship troopers can be cheesy, but you can't deny how fun it is

I think the bombardier bugs are launched by the scorpion bugs since you see them together attacking the base. The scorpions must launch the bombardiers into the base in the same manner a plasma bug launches spore capsules into space.

Important note: When describing the X Bug, the footage actually shows the Tiger Spit bug. In fact, the X Bug is the same class as the Royal Warrior, hence is much larger than the Tiger.

40 minute video on Starship Troopers? Let's goooooooo!

The novel *Starship Troupers by Robert Anson Heinlein* was basically a philosophical treatise on a form of *Libertarianism,* where every individual basically has the same Rights (Free Speech, Freedom of Religion, Right to Congregate, Right to Bear Arms, etc.) as people living in the modern United States. However only Citizens were permitted to either Vote or be Elected to Federal Office. In order to become a citizen, individuals would be required to undertake several years of government service. Note that while many individuals - including the protagonist, *Juan "Johnny" Rico,* (who was supposed to be a 21 y/o *Filipino/Hispanic* & not the 29 y/o blond/blue eyed Caucasian cast in the movie) - chose military service, there were plenty of alternatives forms of government service described in the novel. The idea of drafting people to fight in a war against their own moral judgement is thoroughly rejected, with Rico's platoon of Armoured Infantry soldiers being completely voluntary, up to the point of deployment into combat (though this meant they lost the opportunity to be a citizen). While there certainly are Militaristic, Jingoistic & (somewhat) Fascistic elements in the novel, these are notably exaggerated in the *Verhoeven* movie. This is illustrated through *Vorhoeven's* plot device (reused from Robocop) of showing News, Commercials & TV Shows as cultural expositions of the United Citizen Federation, as well as the black & grey Wehrmacht/SS -esque military uniforms (especially within the Psi-Corp).

The Tyranids/Arachnids are indeed a very unique speices, but it makes you wonder how they originated, a lab experiment gone wrong, a mutation in evolution....

I'm so glad they added the bugs from The Roughneck Chronicles! There was so much variety in that TV series, and it always frustrating when they are never included in other ST media.

I love this franchise so much, I’ve been binge watching every movie and the animated show. I really like the animated show it is extremely underrated, I can see how it influenced franchises like Halo. Truly a classic.

Y’all are missing out with this novel. Power suits, orbital drop teams, society rebuilt and rebooted by the soldiers at the end of the last world war; a Federation so small people would not even know who to revolt against.

Just to give a little criticism, a few times you mentioned a bug as a variant of another bug that you did not mention before, like the water tiger bug appears before the tiger bug. Maybe it would be better to keep related bugs together and present the normal variant before the alternative ones.

So the tanker bugs and plasma bugs look almost identical aside from the huge glowing thorax of the plasma bugs,my theory is the plasma bugs are just the female variants of the tankers. evidence being the enlarged thorax and the fact they seem to stay deep behind their own lines to provide support rather than being on the front lines like the tankers, also MV mentioned they used fires as a weapon but to me it seems more like some superheated liquid, maybe some kinda plasma?🤔

I adhere to the belief that all the bugs in the starship universe are all of the same species. But have mastered their genetics by artificial breeding. And are able to breed new types of bugs to adapt to situations. Like how broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and brussel sprouts are all cultivars of the same plant.

Easily one of the greatest movies ever. Absolute legend

Holy cow... I'm 37 & grew up watching Starship troopers. Absolutely loved it & the satire/communist/authoritarian like government totally connected with me. But I had no idea there were 4 more sequels. 38 years old now, going to revisit this series and explore the other 4 movies I didn't watch. Kinda don't want to watch this movie now (Spoilers), so I'll return later to finish this video. Thanks for re-introducing me to a really cool childhood memory that I still haven't forgot.

I hope we get some more games set in this universe soon though it would be nice to actually play as the bugs in the games

Bizarre story: In the ancient age of bootleg DVD "stores" in my city, Starship Troopers were (for a time) for some unexplainable reason the only flick ever that was only given as a free bonus if you bought a "Swedish action movie" lol. Probably untrue as I didn't hear it myself (However, here you never know), but some schoolmates also claimed how they were told by two shopkeepers that this boosted sales of said type of cinematography for a while. Sure, everyone with a PC and CDR who bought something copied and freely shared it with friends anyway, but people still went to these few stores just to see if the story was true. The Balkans, pocket dimension that starts where logic and laws of the universe end, despite it's mount Everest of problems truly has some entertaining stuff on a daily basis second only to Russian dashcam and CCTV footage compilations. Hope the story amused you even for a moment and I wish you all happy holidays and good health. P.S. If you have a story of your own I would love to read it. No type of media can ever match stuff that humans actually do be it funny or grimdark.

Can’t wait for the new Starship Troopers: Extermination game. It’s great that Starship Troopers still gets love after all these years, but still the franchise is still heavily underutilized. I also hate how the Roughnecks: STC series didn’t get a proper conclusion.

Did you happen too look into the game Starship Troopers Terrain Ascendancy? It was the first PC game for the series to come out. it introduced a variety of other bugs. Such as the Camelion/mantis bug, acid spitter, mini plasma bug, larva bugs, worker drones, rhino bugs, elite warrior bug, the king bug and a human bug hybrid

It's interesting to see how Zander died two different ways. In the movie he liked Carmen and got his brain eaten in the game he likes dizz and mutated into a bug.

The first movie is my favorite. So many layers.

Paul Verhoeven was only involved in the first movie and he brought the real pro's and big money for the special effects. And the use of practical effects instead of all CGI makes it looks a lot better too.

When I see hordes of warrior bugs my first thought is "Why no one is using grenades or rockets? You will kill decent amount and cripple those who survived initial explosion"

Starship Troopers is one of my most favorite movies and I am still angry that when it was nominated for a Special Effects Oscar it lost against Titanic. I think the Effects in Starship Troopers are way better than in Titanic...

The brain bug...I remember it clearly. I had no idea that i was watching Starship troopers at my dad's step grandmother's house the whole time! I was only a child at the time.

I was tripping on acid, when I first saw the movie from blockbusters.

You know you made a great movie when literal DECADES later its still anchored in pop culture, social media, and even got 2 more video games just recently.

The film is a perfect satire. If you are gonna think too hard, they will slap the silly propaganda on your face and you will chuckle. But i do love the interactions among the characters. None of them were perfect and none of them were pure evil. They act like real human beings.

First you tell us about the warrior bug and how they breed amongst themselves and what not then tell us the queen bug is the one who lasts eggs, unimportant at a rare of up to 75 per hour which = 1800 per day. Interesting. But the jungle spider takes the cake. You said that the "jungle spider is the only arachnid spices that actually resembles a human arachnid".. wth is a "HUMAN ARACHNID"? 🤔 lol. When I watched the first movie for the first time, I had a crush on Rico. He is 🔥

There was a mod in the classic game Quake 3 that lets you play as a Warrior bug in a color of your choosing. There's Lots of other skins as well. I played as Marvin the Martian in Darth Vader's armour. That was a while ago. Good times.

It's impressive how well the CGI still works today, unlike the original Matrix (not that the Matrix is bad, just that the movie hasn't aged well)

Plasma Bug probably the most flexible unit it can take on anything. It's like a bug version of flak 88.

The video has a lot of repeated statements, such as saying "X is a formidable arachnid" several times for the same bug. Also part way through you switched from "arachnid swarm" to "spider empire." You were showing clips from Roughnecks at the time, but I recall them being called arachnids in that too. Not sure where the spider part came from. Also I really feel that each interpretation of the story should be viewed as a separate story. For example, the bugs types in Roughnecks have no relation to the bug types in the 97 movie, as the timelines, technology, etc. are entirely incompatible.
