It wasn't the cast members who were mistreating David Yost for being gay he got along fine with them it was actually the producers of the show who were actively discriminating against him for being gay that's why his character was sidelined to a support role.

No matter how many times I hear it, I still can't get over losing Jason David Frank, I grew up watching power rangers, he had many credits when it came to power rangers, it's sad to see him gone, he will always be remembered

Fun fact with Machiko Soga, in terms of acting in multiple Super Sentai series, her final request was to finally play a good guy as she played a bad guy in multiple Tokusatsu series. Her last role was in Mahou Sentai Magiranger as Heavenly Arch Saint Magiel.

My brother and I met JDF around a year or so ago. He was the sweetest man I've ever met and he genuinely was such a kind, and caring soul. He will be missed dearly.

There's been like a thousand power rangers. With so many people playing the roles it's inevitable there will be tragedy for some.

I remember hearing about Jason David Frank's suicide (I had a major crush on him, since he was the same age as me) I was really saddened and surprised. But now knowing that he lost a child to suicide shortly before makes a whole hell of a lot more sense to me. Honestly I think I'd be the same way.

This doesn't qualify as a curse, it's just tragic.

I'm still reeling from the loss of Jason David Frank. The white ranger was my favorite and Tommy was my favorite character. He was loved by many and will be missed.

A lot of people look down upon people who commit suicide and say that they’re weak/selfish, but events like the death of your own child is enough to break any parent

Jason David Frank didn't even have to die from suicide. But depression is real.

The loss of David Frank, the homophobia of the directors, the lost of Trinny, and the loss of JDF, and everything else is sad and a blow to my childhood. May the power protect you, now and forever.

It wasn't easy listening to all the tragedies. I was still mourning Kevin Conroy when I heard Jason David Frank died. Though I also appreciate the insight, I think calling it a "curse" is ridiculous.

In fairness to Ricardo Medina Jr., he defended a person from an assailant that wouldn't back down after non lethal strikes with a samurai sword. If he was any more of a real life Power Ranger in that moment is if dude had exploded when he passed

Damn. I knew about original cast problems and passing away. But i had no idea how much of a tragic events and controversial stuff was going on behind the scenes. It is just insane, man! The only thing i wish is that the original members of the PR cast was alive and kicking. Because, i only like original Power Rangers, and every other show feels and looks too silly for me. Thus, it is too much for me to take. Also the news about death of JDF was very hurting for me, as a fan of original Power Rangers. Cause he was my favorite ranger. And reading that news was like feeling of losing everything. And i maybe didn't showed my emotions physically, but inside i was shocked and hurt to read that news.

I remember Manchiko Soga also portrayed Mystic Mother, who Rita eventually became after redeeming herself, but died before the first of her only two episodes as that character were even released on TV to the general public. Very sad indeed

I agree. Someone should only be judged on the bases of their merit and work commitment. Not their skin color or anything else. Which is why I was shocked to see young people at colleges in todays day and age. Screaming at professors to leave because of their skin color. Telling people their not welcome because of their skin color or heritage. Tragic but it looks like we’re just gonna have another world war to figure it out

Tragedy tends to strike those that inspire others. Though they played fictional heroes on screen they inspired those that watched them. We will always love them for who they were to us and once a ranger always a ranger.

My childhood isn't complete without Power Ranger.

Being NON-UNION is what created this curse, and we can blame one man who created this franchise on a cheap, Haim Saban.

Reminds me of the original yellow ranger actor for any Super Sentai or Power Rangers show, Baku Hatakeyama. He famously played as Daita Oiwa/Kirenger from Himitsu Sentai Gorenger (Star Rangers in the English dub done by the Philippines) as the engineer and muscle of the Gorengers in the 70s. He ended up in a situation like JDF and hung himself months after the production of JAKQ Vs Gorenger. In Super Sentai, the first ranger to ever die was Daigorou Kumano (Daita's temporary replacement in Gorenger), who was shot and stabbed to death by the Black Cross Army on a solo mission.

There have been hundreds, if not thousands of actors on the show. Of course eventually a few events like these would (unfortunatly) happen eventually.

This just goes to show that while Power Rangers is a kids show…the people behind the colourful costumes are just as flesh and blood as anyone else 😢 0:02

What really sucks about JDF's death to me is that I found out about his apparent suicide on my birthday. It really made me emotional on that day when I heard the news. RIP Jason. Once A Green Ranger. Always A Green Ranger

I was a kid when the Power Rangers first aired. I only liked the first 3 seasons, and I remember when hearing about when Trini Kwan played by Thuy Trang died. Now I hear that Tommy played by Jason David Franck died. The person who played Rita, Machiko Soga is now the 3rd person I watched on Power Rangers as a kid who I now found out died.

I wouldn’t call it a curse. It’s spread over like 30 years and many different series of power rangers. Over that long period of time and that many actors involved over the decades it’s statistically likely to have some of them have unfortunate events happen during the course of their lives, even resulting in death. It’s just life.

Well, for Ricardo’s prison record for murder start year:2017 supposed end year: 2023 unexpected end year: 2020 possibly due to the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. I still feel so sorry for him after all the bad things he was going through; I’m 100% hopeful that he will get a second chance in the franchise to reprise his character role before Power Rangers wild force’s 30th anniversary gets here.

I'm very skeptical about Tammie Frank's version of events... Pretty sure she's drastically altering the story to preserve her and JDF's memory.

It may be me misremembering the interview with David Yost but I am fairly certain he said the rest of the cast was supportive of him. It was the crew, directors and producers that were horrible to him, I may have misinterpreted what he said of am misremembering it. The whole Magna Defender's kid dying in front of him is also an over simplification, back then Sentai footage was used way more extensively than it has been in recent years as well as story lines (with the exception of Samurai's watered down version of the Super Sentai's story lines which was actually kind of nice IMO) as such a lot of elements that probably wouldn't have been thought of by western tv makers made it over even the idea of a child playing a ranger isn't an American idea as this very thing happened with Kiba Ranger in Gosei Sentai Dairanger (AKA the White MMPR so when you see him jumping up and down acting like a 2 year old sometimes, well), it is because BullBlack's child died in front of him that Magna Defender's child unfortunately met an untimely end, these themes while they may seem more adult and controversial to us are much more common place in Japanese TV because the culture is completely different. Also Thuy's name is pronounced Twee as in Tree but with a W instead of an R. To everyone we lost though may they find solace in the fact they made millions of children (and adults, yes, my parents used to watch it with me on occasion and even I at 34 still enjoy watching it) happy and they will be truly missed, whether they are with us or passed on Once a Ranger Always a Ranger. R.I.P.

About JDF i heard a different story. He had a big argument with his wife(ex), he put her in a different room and close the door, I believe he went to the bathroom and hang himself. JDF was my childhood hero, it’s very sad.

At least Ricardo Medina took ownership for his wrong doing. Pua on the other hand almost had a Chris Benoit moment by leaving his wife to survive on her own after leaving her for dead before taking his own life.

They should’ve kept the magna defender thing to wear. It was his brother like the super Sentai series because that one was at least suitable for this character, because it was his brother that died instead of you know, the other way, around father and son, which, if they kept that storyline like it was in the Japanese version, people would’ve had less likely to have it be a little offensive either way

I am genuinely surprised that they didnt mention Skylar Deleon who was an actor who appeared in season 1 episode 55 of mighty morphin lower rangers who in 2004 went on to murder a couple called Thomas and Jackie Hawks whilst pretending to be interested in buying their boat he was later sentenced to death

I blame #TammyFrank for Jason’s death. Divorce papers were released. She wanted to take Everything from him. He wrote her out of his will before his death so she wouldn’t get anything. He left everything to his kids. Tammy was also verbally and physically abusive to Jason.

The rangers ninja outfits and accompanying movie battle suits, were by far the best suits ever. After that they were basically regular motorcycle helmets with decals. I miss 95 sometimes, the og 6 will never be replaced in the hearts of many

I hated how everything went to Tommy in the series. He took over the original team with his White Ranger form while the other rangers only got Zords instead of a full power-up to handle greater enemies. This was a problem with Dairanger being darker than its predecessor Zyuranger and the inclusion of a green new green ranger mixed with the Drunken Fist fighting style of the Yellow Ranger meant a lot of things had to be cut. Sadly, the actor who potrayed the green Dairanger also committed suicide after experiencing emotional issues.

The reason Justin was added in the show was because of Big Bad Beetleborgs since that show had kids as super heroes it had higher ratings so they wanted to emulate that so Justin was brought in but unfortunately it didn't turn out the way to plan

16:47 Fun little fact. 4 years prior to Turbo, the Japanese Gosei Sentai Dairanger(the origin of the White Ranger and the Thunder Zords) cast Hisashi Sakai as Kou of the Howling New Star(KibaRanger, or the White Ranger). He was also only 12 years old at the time of his casting as KibaRanger. I know, Japan has different rules and such. But it's an interesting note that these two actors, even though from different series entirely, were the same age at the time of their respective casting.

I don't understand the whole black dude as the black ranger, Asian chick as the yellow ranger controversy, when I watched this in the 90s, color didn't matter, was just a great show, that kind of stuff only matters when your taught it matters

I read that JDF and Tammy got into multiple arguments, that caused them to be in separate rooms. Tammy divorced JDF in August. I feel she said something to him because from I also read JDF cheated on her with a younger woman which lead to the divorce

Dishonorable mention: Kentrix from Power Rangers Lost Galaxy was killed off because her actress: Valerie Vernon was diagnosed with leukemia. Luckily, both the actress and her character got better in the end.

It's sad we live in a world where ppl have to feel like they have to "come to terms, with their sexuality" when they should feel no guilt or shame in the first place.

Why am i only seeing this now? It breaks my heart to see my fave character dies in real life or suffer injustice. Power Rangers is one of my favorite tv series back in the 90's ,its huge in the Philippines. And for their first movie where i saw the glimpse of Tommy and Kim is iconic, them as a special appearance is so nostalgic. I never knew so many things happen in the set off cam. I still believe that early mighty morphen power rangers were one of the best franchise❤

This is what happens when you have a huge cast, over a period of decades. It's not a curse, it's just life by numbers. You really do crippling depression a huge misservice by calling it "sadness." Sadness is a normal emotion, if we didn't feel Sadness at some point, we wouldn't be human. Suicidal ideation & depression is not Sadness. That's like calling a completely shattered leg a broken toe.

It's not a curse. Sometimes, even bad things happen to good people. You can't always blame art for all the bad things that happen in this world. TBH, if this show was cursed it would've been canceled 10x over by now. Who in the right mind wanted to curse it in the first place?

The part about Magna Defenders son made me laugh. Have you watched any of the original Sentai? Zyuranger (MMPR) original story had Bandora(Rita) trying to kill kids almost every episode lol. It might be considered to dark in the states but every Sentai season has pretty dark tones in them.

Cole was one of my favorite power rangers, so finding out what Ricardo Medina did was downright heart breaking for me

It isn't racism. Anyone who says it is. Is the racist. Back then we were interested in having fun and being entertained. If you look hard enough you can see racism everywhere. That's no way to live constantly complaining and seeing things that's not there.

I know some of you are probably skeptical about a supposed curse on this show, but after 7 actors in this franchise died, and the other controversies that happened, that's when it's dangerously close to crossing the line between bad luck and paranormal. There's a pretty thin line between coincidence and curse.

Imagine a series running for 30 years with multiple cast members and having cast members pass away or some making bad decisions. It's not a curse, it's life. To be fair with that last one, that was just something they carried over from Gingaman so it isn't exactly Power Ranger's fault. Also, RIP to all the rangers who we lost.

“Yost has since revealed that it was due to harassment and insults from his fellow cast members” Not true at all David got along great with his fellow cast members the harassment and insults came from people who worked behind the camera (producers, writers and directors) one producer Scott Page-Pagter said that David left because of a salary dispute but I think he said that for the two reasons first of all he said it to cover up what really happened and secondly it would surprise me at all if he was one of the ones who called David a F-A-G-G-O-T and of course he wasn’t going to admit it so he decided to say that David left because of a salary dispute

No curse. When you really get down to the facts 💯 it was mostly all corporate greed. Back stabbing or slavery contracts. And bad choices. I actually believe that they all were doing great in life. Sadly, after high school. I heard about the curse and years later, the sad truth.😥
