"Invasion of the Body Snatchers", yes. Carpenter's "The Thing", however, great as it was, wasn't really a remake of "The Thing From Another World", but, a more faithful adaptation of the story from which that movie was derived in spite of the fact that Carpenter uses the same title. It was it's own thing (no pun intended).

I agree, the thing that annoys me the most about the remake is that it Carrie looks like a typical high school girl not remotely like an outcast plus a lot of the CGI effects look terrible while Carrie's blood soaked look didn't look scary or disturbing at all. In the original film Carrie looks exactly like the kind of girl who you'd expect to be bullied during the time period and her prom scene was as frightening and eerie as the score that accompanied it. The remake is boring as hell and I'd honestly prefer the original hands down

Still to this day the remake of NotLD is one of my top tier horror movies to rewatch next to Army of Darkness. I love how Savini stayed close to the original material Romero started on. Didn't really care much for the House of Wax remake. But 13 Ghosts took the original and made it one of heck of a ride. Even though they are not related except for being remakes of William Castle films, I will often pair 13 Ghost with House on Haunted Hill remake. Geoffrey Rush does a great modern take on Vincent Price's role, and then actually having the house be haunted was a nice twist on the original. So you have a good list here, I would just replace House of Wax with House on Haunted Hill.

Remakes tend to work best when the movie is so old and so obscure that you don't even know it's a remake. That was the case with me watching THIR13EN GHOSTS. I watched the remake first on SyFy, not even realizing there was an original 13 Ghosts. When I rented the THIR13EN GHOSTS DVD from the library, only then (through the DVD Extras) did I learn this was a remake. I've subsequently gotten a hold of a DVD of the _original_ 13 Ghosts, and now I like _both_ movies.

As a fan of the original "Fright Night", I'm still leery about the remake. All my lady friends were too busy gushing over shirtless David Tennant to notice the rest of the movie, it appeared, and even though modern SFX technology makes Jerry Dandridge look good for the modern audience, I'm not a fan of Colin Farrell. The man can't hide his Irish for the life of him. Chris Sarandon is still the definitive Dandridge, for me.

Solid group, obviously The Thing & Invasion of the Body Snatchers should top the list , but not bad @ all. All hail horror... new & old, original & remake. Horror movies bring people together, regardless of demographics.👍🏽✌🏽🤙🏾✊🏾👏🏾

You have to love this line: "... a misterious creature resembling a giant blob from another planet". Yep, sometimes I see stuff and think "that resembles a giant blob from another planet, since I've been in another planets and seen giant blobs there, and this stuff just looks like it". Seriously, who writes this videos? Also, funny that the cameos in Cape Fear are mentioned but Chris Sarandon, the vampire in the original Fright Night, EVEN SHOWS UP IN THE VIDEO being killed by Colin Farrell. Mmmm... nope, nothing to see here, just move on

Liked your list, & agreed with it--- for the most part. But Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Evil Dead, & The Thing should've been on it.

some of these remakes are not as good as originals, house of wax isn't, actually thats a 3 way remake, the Vincent Price movie is a remake of a movie called Mystery of the Wax Museum

Most of the time I agree wholeheartedly with your opinions and commentary... This time, I disagree with some of your comments. CASES IN POINT: *Just mentioning House of Wax (2005) , and doubling down by saying "it keeps you on the edge of your seat". Yeah, because you just wanna stand up and turn the TV off 🤣 *Cape Fear (1991) is horror in your opinion? That's a new one for me. I've always considered it a thriller. *Carrie (1976) is not cheesy ¬¬ and the CGI of the remake is cringe-worthy. *Thirteen Ghosts (2001) offers NOTHING, other than yawns. I remember watching it as a 12 y/o and leaving the theater (yes, the theater) very disappointed. Anyway, thanks for the video :)

The really cool thing about the original 13 Ghosts was the gimmick that went along with it: not only could the characters see the ghosts by wearing glasses, so could the audience. They could choose whether or not they wanted to be able to see the ghosts, and were given different colored glasses depending on their choice.

Such a brilliant way to bring in the audience. Kind of like the buzzers in the chairs when The Tingler released in theaters.

I like your videos and I know such things are largely subjective, but I cannot believe Carrie or House Of Wax would be on many people's list of 'horror remakes that secured the charm of the originals' lists. I enjoyed the remake of Fright Night, but it definitely lacks the charm of the original. The rest of the choices were pretty solid.

When I was in 6th grade in 1986, a year after it came out, the original Fright Night was my favorite movie, and I stopped counting the number of times I watched it at 200. I enjoyed the remake, and thought that some of the details were pretty cool- like the specific species or clan of vampire that Dandridge was, and the different take on Peter Vincent. I always loved Stephen Geoffreys as the original Evil Ed, and enjoyed him in other movies like Fraternity Vacation, which Amanda Bearse was also in, playing his love interest. Tim Robbins was in that movie, too- as a character called “Mother” Tucker! Sad that Geoffreys later did some gay porn to pay the bills, after not getting roles for a while. I haven’t heard anything about him in years, since then. Anyway, that’s quite the collection of tangents I went off on, sorry! Just wanted to say how much I used to love Fright Night. Later!

Evil Dead was more a reboot than a remake. It may share some DNA with the original but overall I'd say it was different enough where it could be considered its own thing. That being said, it was awesome.

House of Wax 2005 shouldn't even be considered a remake. It's a completely different movie other than the title. Plus, the Vincent Price version was a remake of the 1930s film.

Agree with the list, however, Carrie was a really bad remake, critics tear the movie apart, and acting, script were really bad indeed. Frigth nigth on the other hand was good, underrated but good.

Honestly, I would include the Friday The 13th Remake, yes I have heard all the issues with the remake and all, but what baffles me is, those issues wherein the entire Friday The 13th franchise. Sorry, but Friday The 13th as loved by many people are not these groundbreaking horror films, they where dumb films with pretty bad writing and characters that got a lot of love cause it was one of the first mainstream slasher films that showed off some gory kills. So it baffles me people hate the remake mentioning its issues, and somehow ignore that the original franchise has those same exact problems.
@jakealter5504
@jakealter5504 3 жыл бұрын
The main problem is that the remake is basically cramming the first 4 movies into one instead of being a remake of just one of the movies. I definitely liked the remake, especially in how they portrayed Jason as a truly terrifying killer again
