It is incredibly tough to bound horror flicks to a particular type, and there have always been different expressions of horror that caught the eyes of the audience. One such horror genre is the multiverse horror movies or the ones that deal with stuff from another dimension or an alternate reality. The very concept is terrifying because it is far more complicated than our minds can comprehend. The human mind has a natural fear of the unknown and what can possibly be more unexplained than the mysterious elements of multiverse horror. Many of the following movies explore complicated timelines, and in some cases, they have a bizarre narrative that looks into how a gateway from our world can lead into alternate dimensions.
In this video, we have clubbed together some of the finest multiverse horror flicks ever made. In some cases, it is tough to distinguish between the sub-genres of these movies, and so, we have grouped them all as multiverse horror movies - stories that are twisted enough to numb your thinking!

Fun fact about Event Horizon: it is considered by both the screenwriter and fans to be canon to the Warhammer 40K universe as humanity's first trip through The Warp

Pandorum is a bit of a mismatch for this topic, while it does fall into the Biopunk and the Cosmic Horror genres it does not fall into the Multiversal Horror genre. Two movies that do fall into this genre but are absent from this list are Hellbound: Hellraiser II (granted this would be an overly obvious choice) and Phantasm.

You put Butterfly Effect on this “horror” list but you may as well have included Donnie Darko- both are definitely in a shared genre of their own. Also, Dagon is an amazing film that I feel has not received the attention it deserves!

Looking back at it, the butterfly effect, was a horror movie, in retrospect. Things just keep getting worse, until they ultimately end their own existence, to end the loop. Even then, those are horrible ending because of that. So, in a way, it is a horror movie. But I can completely see where you're coming from.

I just love these kinds of movies. They are like answering what-if questions, in a cinematic way. It's also a nice break from reality, known reality. Although, it is scary to think that Science Fiction and Fantasy, eventually produce real-life inventions and events. @@edevaldosouza1109Yea but coherence did the trick for me. I also liked triangle much enough and the theory about it is time. Triangle stands for Bermuda triangle I guess, time bends in there and what goes inside stays forever.
@edevaldosouza1109
@edevaldosouza1109 2 жыл бұрын
@@dmtts1350 My theory: Actually, she is in a psychotic break and suffering with hallucinations + paranoia. She tried to run away with her son, but she died imediattelly in a car accident and her son died as well in slow agony. She is supossed to go with the DRIVER, but she is feeling so guilty and continues with the hallucinations, she sails and tries to deceive the death. Her soul wanders, her mind is a mess however she has a goal in her madness. She decided travel " in triangle" to turn back in time and save her child. But when she is in storm, she lost her memory. Time splits in Present, Past and Future. She is "Present" when comes inside the ship first time, but one version of herself is "the Past" (already lived events inside the ship). The crazy murder version is always future.Wich proves she lost her sanity and always causes her death and murders others even trying to save them. She is in a looping, where she always fight against herself and causes the tragedy - even when she goes back home, she only reminds what happened with confusion. The part when she is with her son, it is real but by her perspective. There are hallucinations too; but thats the part there is some truth. She didn't kill the evil mom, she thought she killed her. Her mind perceives duality. That dead body outside the car is hers, the car keys is still inside the car. She never took them to sail. Her son screamed because, he had seen that truck coming to hit the car. Not because the bird blood. As an autistic boy, he loves BLUE color and all about the Sea, so she thought he was complaning about the red blood but that might be her hallucination. Inside the triangle none of that was real, the triangle boat/Yatcht is the boy's toy. The sea is the plastic pool. The toy sinked inside the pool during a storm. Other Sea elements connect with her decoration house. She acts both depressive and maniac, she looks like a bipolar disorder person. Her son is traumatized, she lies is just a bad dream, actually when she switch mood she hits him and regret. Her son is the key to solve the mistery, he is her world, the one she loves the most, she would do anything to have him back. She is in triangle because she wants him back, ALIVE but, she is a very ill woman, she cannot save her child, because with the swing moods she is both good and evil mom. She cannot save him, because she is the main cause of his death, she is out control, collapsing. She cannot save him, she cannot deceive death, she cannot turn back in time, she is delusional. I'm so sorry about my English mistakes, it's not my first language. But pay attention she is tired, sleeping and sad inside the boat/yatcht, and then she is happy, full of energy and flirting. Swing Moods. In that moment, she remembers everything that she is gonna do, she knows she will cause people deaths, she is sorry but she is aware of everything and will do anything. She lies her child was at School, she hides the car crash because, she wants to turn back in time and in her mind, in order to do so, she needs to sail to get the storm, she needs to be inside Triangle, she needs the boat to sink, to get inside the ship, do whatever takes. She only forgets everything after the boat had sinked thats why she gets déjà vu. And do not remember what It was the main goal of the sailing, wich is turn back in time, save her child. She had swing mood, when she lost her temper and hits her son. Bipolar moods. Pay attention, inside the ship theres a happy and sad clown painting. Duality. Bipolar. 237 is the number of her house and a room inside the ship but, also represents "Jack's got crazy and he is dangerous to his son", it's a hint. About Present, Past and Future, pay attention to the food on the table inside the ship, in Present the food is good, an apple is good for eaten. But when Jess is in Past, all got roaten/spoiled.
@edevaldosouza1109
@edevaldosouza1109 2 жыл бұрын
@@dmtts1350 YES. BERMUDA TRIANGLE is where she needs to be to split time in Present, Past and Future. She needs the storm inside the Triangle, she needs that to turn back in time. But TRIANGLE is ALSO the name of the YATCHT/BOAT that she sails with friends. Greg's yatcht is : TRIANGLE. TRIANGLE is the shape of the looping she is inside the ship Aeolus. (Pay attention to the food! ) The food is ok in Present time, but roaten, OLD in Past time. She has a Present, a Past and a Future versions, 3 sides of herself inside the ship. When she get inside ship for the first time (she is present), but following her and the survivers is the past version of her, that one drops the keys. That Past version was a Present version once. That's why Present becomes Past. When the killer falls to the sea (a Future version) fighting against (Present version) - , the Past version inside the ship watches the fighting and in despair will take her place, she becomes the killer ( a future version). That's why Past becomes Future. The one who has won, the fighting in the decks ship, It was a Present version but soon, she will becomes a Past version. She will watch as the survivers get inside the ship. Future is always madness and murder. Future is always a Maniac version, the killer. Again: Present becomes Past And Past becomes Future ***************************************** Again: Jess is bipolar, she had a psychotic break that includes paranoia and hallucinations. Theres no good and evil mom, only her swing moods caused by bipolar disorder. She already wasn't mentally ok, when she was with Tommy inside the house. The whole triangle thing is in her mind, she killed her child in a car accident, her soul wanders in denial, she continues hallucination, in her mind she will turn back in time, and avoid the car crash. But she never wins and keeps doing all over again and again. She tries to deceive the death/the DRIVER, but she is like Sisyphus, she always take the rock to the top of mountain to roll it over again and again, condemned by her guilty and lies. She is stuck in that until she gets It. The only way out is acceptance. According to the Greek myth, Sisyphus is condemned to roll a rock up to the top of a mountain, only to have the rock roll back down to the bottom every time he reaches the top. As Sisyphus she stuck in that crazy looping. Moral of the story is: "There is no future without leave the past behind" " We cannot change the past even If we try really hard" " Death is inescapable" I tell you this, i do love this film, i have the DVD and watched at least 7 times. It's my favorite movie. I had to explain this to all my friends, they all agree with me now. But I believe we have the language barrier, I don't know If I express myself well in english. But I think this movie is so great.

@@dmtts1350 Draw a triangle, and name the lines : Present, Past and Future. They are connect and Jess switch places inside the ship. Present becomes Past. Past becomes Future. Jess knows nothing, but soon she will get everything is happening again and again, once she was Present, but now she is Past. After tired of the looping, she wanna get out, she was Past, now she is Future. And Future is nonsense. Future becomes madness and murder. Tragedy cannot be changed, fate cannot be avoid, life is not always in our control. Hallucinations look like nightmares/a horror movie. Acceptance is the only way out. Death is inescapable.

I enjoyed the Mist novella, and I thought the film was excellent! What don't get is-- what the hell was that TV show _pretending_ to be the Mist going on about? It had nothing to do with the novella, save for some trivialities like the project Arrowhead soldiers, and the actual Mist around the town (which was more of a fog). Having to take shelter from horrible monsters from the nightmare void between worlds-- aka "Todash Space" in the film and novella was _way_ more interesting than whatsoever the hell the TV show was trying to do!

The TV series The Mist was literally just an excuse to try and shove social justice garbage down everyone's throat. Like in the first episode all the friends are miserable at a football game despite CHOOSING to go because it's a form of "toxic masculinity patriarchal misogynistic garbage". Like, that's thrown in for literally no purpose. Dont waste your time on this series. It's a product of the heightened left vs right Twitter war bullcrap

I have a question for anyone out there who has seen "1408": Is there a BD version that has the original theatrical ending? I bought the "1408"/"The Mist" combo pack, & even w/the several alternate endings in the special features... none of them are the original theatrical one. I also looked at the "1408" BD solo release on Amazon, & in the reviews section there are people who complain of the same thing. In your section on The Mist you said that the ending will leave you "mortified." You do realize that mortified means embarrassed or humiliated. I don't believe that was the word you were looking for.

just going to point out leaving things open ended is a lazy way out and should never be done unless you are planning sequels but it still isnt necessary and it robs the audience of closure to a story arc this was done so much in the 90s ive grown sick of seeing it and if it went away permanently that would be ideal .

Big Spoiler Alert: @Mike Actually, she is in a psychotic break and suffering with hallucinations + paranoia.
@edevaldosouza1109
@edevaldosouza1109 2 жыл бұрын
Draw a triangle, and name the lines : Present, Past and Future. Watch again, this movie is amazing! She didn't died in storm. She died in car crash.

I never thought of Event Horizon as anything more than a collection of rip offs of basically all Sci Fi movies of the previous 20 years, like Alien (Frozen crew, ambush when looking for Oxygen Scrubbers), 2001(Shape of the ship, etc), the Black Hole(Menacing ship drifting in space and goes to hell), Hellraiser(Sam Neills make up) and even Cliffhanger(Countdown bomb in locker, Lawrence Fishburns gun)

@@johnryder1713 so first, Joseph Campbell points out in his seminal work on human storytelling "The Power of Myth" that there are really only 36 stories in all of human history. So one story bearing passing resemblance to another isn't really an argument. The Lion King is an award winning film, and its basically Hamlet with lions. John Carpenter's The Thing is considered the gold standard of practical horror filmmaking, and it's a remake. Same goes for the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Does Event Horizon use some tropes? Sure. All movies, especially genre movies like this, do. But it's about how those components are put together. It was a haunted house movie in space, and any horror critic worth their salt will tell you its one of the best. Body horror is not unique to Hellraiser (which by 1997 had already been played out), and spooky spaceships aren't unique to Alien. You wouldn't say that Monet ripped off Renoir just because they both painted flowers.
