Hi Mav, dunno if it allready got mentioned in the comments and it´s totally up to you since it´s your bud up there but here I go - those retractable studs are mostly made for hard ground like asphalt and concrete. If it would be my behind up the lift I wouldn´t ever use it without some heavy boards underneath them studs to spread the load. Like this the danger of one of the studs starting to slip or sinking in the ground when under load gets reduced by a lot. The lift in 40mph wind gusses ain`t no static but a dynamic load so one needs a good sturdy foundation to be safe. Just saying - So long

What a unique and incredible vehicle. You literally have a home in the clouds. I would've been camping so much more if I had something like this. A little kids dream (instant tree house). And that view, of those trees and the Adirondacks in the background, was worth it by itself. Well, hope you had a great time with it. Thanks for the video and stay safe.

I'd make sure to keep the doors locked on the van when spending the night in the air on that thing. There have been issues where people have been in the camper of their trucks and some random stranger in the darkness of the woods came messing around the truck trying to open the doors. If they opened the unlocked doors and turned the switch off, you'd be screwed. I always take people's craziness into mind as a factor everywhere. Also, for someone camping in it long-term, having a rope ladder to fling over the side out of the window in case of equipment or power failure would definitely be helpful.

As a NYC resident, I've seen these vans. They are used by uniformed NYPD officers to monitor and deter crime in and around public housing complexes. For officer safety, there is always an officer, usually in a police car, sitting at ground level to prevent anyone from tampering with the van while the survelling officer is above.

@@JavonWilliams29 Yeah, that is what replaced these vans. It was too easy to just attach a camera pod onto any pole with a solar array for a small fraction of what one of these cost. They have pods and sometimes they just mount stuff on poles. Run a fiber or cover it with WIFI and you have live coverage of hundreds of cameras from one place.

At a little over 10 foot you don’t have anything to worry about with power lines. Most are 15 feet at least. A semi or box trucks is I believe is legal at 13’8”. I worked for the highway department and we would have to raise lines sometimes for oversized load. My high top van was like 9 1/2 foot and I never had a issue. Very cool 4x4 van with no miles. I would take the box and lift out and fiberglass a piece of plywood over the hole and insulate the van and build a camper.

What a score! The van being an extended bed 4x4 heavy duty van with self levelling and raised roof would make an awesome off-road camper on it's own. The lifting pod is more than a perfect deer stand. I come with a video surveillance background, and that camera setup alone is likely in the 10s of thousands. It is a 360 degree FLIR (forward looking infrared) PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) with amazing zoom capabilities. You could track a deer day or night and see the ticks on his back.

Definitely cool but it's too bad there isn't a bit more useable space in the van. He would be wise to invest in some RV stabilizer pads to place under those jack stands.... any high wind is gonna push that over to one side causing the jack stands on one side to sink in on any soft terrain and it would be questionable if he would even survive the fall.

@Raven-ox2nj actually in Minnesota it's illegal to shoot from a roadway, that is an established highway or state or county road. It's frowned upon by some, but perfectly legal to shoot from a vehicle if you are on a field or back off trails. If you could get this behemoth off the road, it's legal. There is a tree stand height max, but they do make hydraulic hunting blinds on trailers already, which are perfectly legal.

That's a perfect mobile deer stand. Especially for someone who is looking to eradicate wild hogs at night, that IR camera system is priceless

That is way too cool, I would totally convert that skybox and go camping everywhere, I'd modify the roof with solar panels, and make it open up for clear dry night. It would be ideal for stargazing.

30:45 Is a Belted Kingfisher. Almost always solitary, perched along edges of streams and rivers. They hunt for fish by plunging headfirst into the water, either directly from a perch or hovering. Pretty cool birds.

Mav just an FYI.... All power lines and traffic lights are 14’ 6" they have to be at least tall enough for a tractor trailer to go underneath which most normal rigs are 13’6" or 13’8” depending on your tires, airbags and weight/load you're carrying. If you're 10'6” you have nothing to worry about except drive thrus at fast food places. Hope this helps you be a bit more comfortable with your van and driving around. Also if you don't trust something, they make measuring poles you can get that will tell you how tall your truck is or how tall the structure your attempting is.

I wouldn't say he has nothing to worry about at 10'6"....because then, he'd SURELY 100%, hit something that was low clearance if he only paid attention while in a Drive-through. It's just better to always be aware, and paying attention. Other things of low clearance (besides drive-throughs) that you forgot to mention....parking garages, the low hanging utility wires/coax-cables that were commonly found connecting old homes/buildings up to basic utilities. Usually only in areas that were developed before all utilities were universally standardized to be underground (commonly hanging across alleys, over driveways)...thankfully most have been updated and converted to subsurface, except rural areas, small town, unincorporated areas.

Good old skywatch. These used to be deployed in violence prone areas as a visual deterrent, like “oh there’s a cop in the tower who’s gonna see me do (crime)”. Neat idea, but haven’t heard of them being used in quite a long time.
