And now HRH Crown Princess Mary have been appointed "Rigsforstander" (head of state) Just a little explainer for non Danes. HRH Crown Princess Mary becoming "Rigsforstander" actually means a lot legally in relation to the entire Kingdom. When having that responsibility, only one have the position at any given moment, her signature are NEEDED in order for any law to be passed. That is the highest, most powerful and honourably position you can hold. The reigning Monarch holds the position normally. The holder have to be inside the Kingdom when holding the position as "Rigsforstander". This position are not a given. With HRH Crown Princess Mary the number of people that can hold the position, are 5. HRH Queen Margrethe, HRH Crown Prince Frederik. HRH Prince Joakim, HRH Princess Benedicte that are the queen´s sister and now HRH Crown princess Mary. If I were Tasmanian/Australian I would allow myself to feel just a little pride. We Danes have a over1200 year old Monarchy and we are pretty strong in protecting our documented history. Her signature on official documents will be able to be watched in a 1000 year (if we can survive ourselves that long). It will take many many years before the next will be given that title and position. Then it will be their firstborn, the future King of Denmark, Christian, that will be appointed.
