Housewife Mary Hartman seems to be having a bit of a breakdown. She argues with her sister over a waxy yellow buildup (that her cleaning product has guaranteed against) and then she starts to hear sirens. Are they really there? Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman: The Complete Series is now available for pre-order from Shout! Factory.
You can pre-order the box set here: www.shoutfactory.com/product/m...

This scene is trippy as hell especially knowing that Debralee Scott is R.I.P. I was a teenager when this show was prime time and it creeped me out back then, but it was so dry funny without a studio audience or laugh track that I watched anyway. They managed to sneak some really raunchy shit into this show if you read between the lines. Fun times.

Brought here after having just watched an old Taxi re-run with Louise Lasser guest starring as Alex's ex-wife, where she emotionally blackmails him into dragging her along to a company Christmas party. But for Louise Lasser's New York accent, her channeling a Midwest, Middle American WASP housewife (but with her braids and miniskirt, still rocking the Fleishman's white bread and Vermont Maple Syrup logo girls) of this era was spot on--with a bit of subtle exaggeration for satiric comic effect. Her Mary was as iconic a homemaker stultified in her cage as Lucille Ball's Lucy.

Interesting observation. You generally rarely actually busted out laughing during this show (this was not Lucille Ball stand-up, sitcom) but instead chuckled to yourself after a stretch. It was that kind if "episode." Often leading seemingly nowhere - i.e., no punch lines; but something to rehash in your head, and might find it humorous.
