Mary influenced Mariah for sure. She introduced her husband Tommy Mottola to Mary’s music to the fact that Tommy called Uptown Record’s, Kirk Whitley and asked him who Produced Real Love for Mary. Kirk told him Corey Rooney. This led them to work together on Dreamlover (1993) and getting Corey a job at Epic Records… Mary is indeed the Queen of all of this. She inspired everyone that came after her and that’s fact!

Andre Hurrell went on that interview with her to help her confidence and for support because Mary J Blige wasn’t as confident then in interviews as she is now, which is understandable. Mary had a rough life and trust issues then.

It is amazing that she literally looks the same. Black women, most, age very slowly. Her face was just smaller.

Now this woman is a first-time nominee for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2021. 30 years in the making. First album out, you definitely know you are the QUEEN when you got another icon in the making wanting to personally meet you. Can you please upload her first ever TV interview? This is a part of history.

I miss those Video Soul and Video LP days. They launched so many careers for great artists.
@HeyTeeTeeHey Жыл бұрын
They really did. BET caught a lot of understandable flack later in the 2000s, but their "Golden Years" was definitely the 90s. A lot of black artists from that era should be thanking BET. Without their platform, many of them would have never made it onto national television.

@@007BlackGuy I just saw the message…. No unfortunately it’s not it. The one I’m referring to was her being interviewed by Madelyn Woods in 1992 . It was when You Remind Me came out. Mary had red hair, a hockey jersey on, blue Jean booty shorts and black boots….I think it was her very first BET interview.

At this point I think MJB had just moved out of Yonkers Slow Bomb projects. It still really didn't hit her that she was a star! She was totally oblivious to her super bright future as a global super star!

I see so much growth in her by watching this. She was trying to find her way and get adjusted to her new way of life like you said.

@benjamincunningham26623 жыл бұрын
The interviewer spent too much on Mary J Bliges’s image and critiquing her. She could’ve let the dialogue breath a little bit instead of every 5 seconds bringing up how shy and laid back Mary was. It’s like she was trying to make character adjustments. That’s never good when interviewing. All and all, it was a great interview of Mary compared to others.

This interviewer deserves a lot of credit. Mary was not an easy guest, but she was warm and accepting of Mary the way she was, and Mary responded. A less skilled host would have crumbled.
