A 2019 song called "Mary On A Cross" by Ghost is resurfacing on the internet and is being used by Christians on TikTok. I don't think many Christians are actually aware of the lyrics, because the song is extraordinarily sacrilegious and blasphemous.

People have been pointing this out for years as some sort of defensive explanation, while still pretending the reaction isn’t then justified due to it being accurate. People don’t seem to get that it doesn’t matter to a faithful Christian if the singer thinks they’re just doing it for the sole purposes of making money and getting a reaction. Christians still accurately see it is being used in spiritual warfare to numb the audience into not caring about such topics, potentially harming them. A good phrase for all people to understand would be, just because you’re not interested in politics doesn’t mean politics isn’t interested in you, even if you’re just joking about it. Replacing the word politics with spirituality helps illustrate the point being missed here.

Because of the way he presents himself, he comes off as not what he actually is to the general public. As a Christian, being not known as a Christian is something looked down upon, and presenting in an unorthodox way only contributes to that "secret Christian" theme. I guess my position is that it's not necessary evil or demonic to present a certain way, as long as it's clearly a show. Which I guess ghost falls into the category of.

No i have no religious trauma. I jusr like the music like 99% of their fans i would say. The catholic church isnt that strong in germany or sweden i would say. If your in jehovas witness than thats a differenr story or maybe in some bavarian villages but its not like the times when my parents grew up. I'm a Christian and enjoy the band's work and their aesthetic. I am able to see the songs for what they are, written by humans with a satirical take on Christianity. Mary on a Cross is particularly clever because if you actually listen to the lyrics it's quite clearly about marijuana. When you're getting angry in this way you're no different from a muslim who is outraged from depictions of Muhammed in media. Grow up would be my advice.

I was raised a devout catholic and altar served. At 10 I became atheist and still am 8 years later. Even when I was a catholic I could take jokes against my religion because it isn't that big a deal and religion itself is a little silly anyways. Nowadays I make the jokes instead :)

Honestly I don't get pissed at this sort of thing anymore, to me it's just a lame cliche " my super religious parents never understood my tortured artistic soul, therefore I'm gonna make fun of your whole faith and call you all dumb, despite probably knowing less about the faith profess hating", that's been done by half the popular artists it's not some profound statement anymore, it's just another cliche done to death.

What gets me the most about Michael’s reaction is that this is a song about marriage, and sticking with one partner for the rest of your life and holding that person in such high regard that you consider them to be the mother of those which you find dear- it’s about living a life that was chaotic before and finding the one person that holds you down the most. This is a song about marriage, and being shamelessly attached to someone in spirit . This is as pro-marriage and believing in reverence of your partner as it gets- it is self-aware of the need, and the desire to have sexual satisfaction in your relationship simultaneously. It is utterly bizarre that This song would make him want to throw something at his screen if he actually believes any of the things that he said about the sanctity of marriage. PS there is nothing more demonic than the people parading as religious leaders in their community preaching God while commiting atrocious sexual sins on nonconsenting individuals. This is a song about consensual love, sex, and even power balance. Enlighten yourself.

On one side having christian symbolism in media for artistic purposes that does not directly represent or relate to christianity its fine. On the other hand creating artistic media with christian symbolism used to attack christianity or directly insult the religion should be sacriligeous, a lot of media and art uses christian symbolism without actually trying to directly represent or mock christianity but rather use it as a way to direct its own meaning and message. I personally think that we should tolerate such pieces of media and art so long it isnt used as a form of mockery or attack, we should strive to understand not control, we are not islam.

Incorrect, in the sense that they aka Tobias Forge is not intending worship of "Satan". Its the language of Metal music and its thematic, unfortunately its "uncool" to write in a pro-God manner so Forge doesn't do that. Forge quite clearly is not a "Satanist" in the sense of worshipping demons, he likes the visuals and the themes for lyrical material. He doesn't seem to view it as any more real than LOTR, as is the case with most secular people. At any rate, the theology in his songs is nonsensical, most of the "praising Satan" elements of his songs are one word-swap away from worshipping actual elements of God. They're very nearly the best Christian Rock band out there, again with a few cross-turns and word-swaps

I like some of your videos... But Tobias would be laughing at how far you missed the mark on this one. The genius of this song and much of Ghost's lyrics and back story is in the fact that there are multiple meanings to almost everything they do. You scratched the surface of the lyrics and said, "I'm offended". You saw the obvious satanic and anti-roman catholic organized religion satire, but completely missed that the song is actually about pot. But going by the rest of your video, if you had that would just turn into, "Ermahgerd! He's talking bout the Devil's lettuce! Heathens!!!" Lighten up... Tobias makes excellent music that is lyrically and compositionally clever and artistic, while putting together an actual storyline that spans either an entire album (not to mention the one that spans the entire history of Ghost), while taking influence from and bringing back the essence of the music of past generations. We don't see that in music much anymore. And the music industry NEEDS it desperately.

The song is not about sex and drugs. The lead singer of the band, (Tobias forge) said it himself that this song is about a dying friendship. Ghost is a heavily satirical band on religion and this song is NOT religious at all. Thank you.

The entire idea behind Ghost is that it is the horror movie equivalent of music. Tobias Forge, the writer and lead singer for Ghost, has repeatedly denied allegations of affiliation with Satan, the Satanic Church, and the occult. It’s more of a tongue-in-cheek performance. That obviously doesn’t change the content of the music or the religious/anti-religious connotations of the lyrics, but it’s an important factor to consider when listening to Ghost. Personally, there are some albums I like from Ghost, and some that I dislike rather strongly. Prequelle is a worthwhile listen that doesn’t make the Ghouls (members of Ghost) seem like infidels.
