No he didn't. Underpainting has been around forever. Way Bandy was the originator as far as real MUAs are concerned and Mary Philips has been around before Scott Barnes.

Oh that's weird. I didn't know JLo did hers this way. I've been told I resemble her my entire life, maybe that's why. I am darker than her though and thought it was the shape of my body lol 😆

"Underpainting," specifically refers to a painting technique in traditional visual arts where first layer of paint applied is used to establish values, colors, and composition before adding more detailed layers. Both highlighting and contouring and underpainting do involve layering for the purpose of creating depth and enhancing features, but they really are very different techniques used in very different ways in very different fields. From the traditional artistry perspective, the co-opting of this term has been cringeworthy.
