Renown Pulmonary Rehabilitation Patient, Mary Richardson, quit smoking after 33 years, but that didn't stop the harmful affects. She developed COPD, a chronic lung disease, and her breathing had become so difficult to the point she was on oxygen 24/7 and found it hard to do daily tasks. Richardson says, "I began getting sick and having exacerbation where I couldn't breathe at all and had to call 911. One of the last times my lips and nails were blue. My husband didn't know if by the time he got me to the emergency room I'd even be alive."
Richardson's doctor recommended a lung transplant. In order to qualify for a transplant, Mary had to complete the Renown Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.
"I didn't want to leave after the eight weeks were over. It was absolutely wonderful," says Richardson. "They got me walking on the treadmill, lifting weights. And they had an educational part, which was so helpful." Richardson believes the pulmonary rehabilitation made all the difference in her recovery. "My life today is wonderful. I had my lung transplant in November 2017 and I am so grateful," says Richardson. "I wouldn't be here. They really gave me my life back and ready for transplant."
