There is no proof that she was 14. Under new comments you can find the sources I post and all those reliable sources stated most Jewish girls in ancient Israel typically married after 15, but before 20, so so Mary was mostly like older then 14. The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Gender Studies edited by Julia M. O'Brien page 52-55 points out that Palestinian Jewish girls typically married after 17 and the Babylonian after 13. It is not the only source to say so. Mary was more likely to be 16-18 then 12-14.

No one said she was above women. She exalts women with her. By being the perfect woman, she imparts a glorious dignity upon all women and all femininity.

Where in scripture does it say that Jesus did not have any other siblings? Matthew 1:25 clearly states that Joseph had marital relations with Mary after the birth of Jesus. So to me, it is pretty clear, Joseph and Mary had other children that were their own. When you have marital relations, kids come. As for why Mary would be turned over to John, the scriptures don't tell us, but most likely because the scriptures do tell us (John 7:1-5) that Jesus' brothers did not believe in him. So it makes perfect sense for Jesus to turn Mary over to John (who is likely a relative) instead of her sons who did not (at this point) believe in Christ.

Problem is that we are stuck with bad translation of original bible, if we would read in original greek language we would understeand that it is written there that she was virgin before and after. She is Virgin Mary our Heavenly Mother and when Our Lord was on cross He gave His Mother to John to be Mother to us all.. it is really dangerous to read Bible just woth our eyes, without Gods blessing of understeanding we tend to make a lots of mistakes. If you study the customs of the Jews, Jesus would never have entrusted his Mother to John if he had any blood siblings. Mary remained a virgin. Who would dare to touch the “Ark of the Covenant”...

I also did some research as well. They said that in those times there were no definite family names like Aunt and uncle and cousins. Everyone was referred to as brother and sisters. But I agree the translations over the years have made this very confusing.

No: The term brother/ sister could also mean cousin in Greek. If you read with attention you will see that those who are called his "brothers" are in other scriptural passegges called sons of another marx/ woman. Mary is a perpetual virgin!

Until someone can share a verse that states that Mary never had other children, I just have to go with the fact that there is just far too much evidence to show that she did have other children. The comments given by "Messages of Christ" are inaccurate. Mary and Joseph did not have other children; they never had marital relations. They had consecrated themselves to God when they were both very young and remained virgins their entire lives. Jesus gave his Mother to John, the son of Zebedee (and to us) though they were not related, because there were no other children, and at this time it would have been unheard of for a Jewish man to give his mother to someone who was not related. In Jesus time, the terms "brother" and "sister" were used to call anyone who was close to another; it did not mean they were related by blood. We who believe are all brothers and sisters in Christ.

And he gave him the name Jesus." In other words, once Jesus was born, Joseph had marital relations with Mary. I don't know any other way to interpret this, and I prefer to take the word of the Bible over the church fathers. I'm well aware of the arguments, but to me the statement could not be more clear that Mary had other children. That said, I also very much respect your belief, but am simply responding with the reason I use the wording I use.

So the original Greek says that Joseph did not "know" her, or have sex with her, until Jesus was born. As for your question on why Jesus leaves Mary to John and not the brothers, it seems from references like John 7:1-5 that the brothers of Jesus did not believe that Jesus was the Christ and did not support him. It would make sense that Mary (who supported Jesus 100%) would turn his mother over to John, and not brothers who had rejected him and his teachings. And I should note, many say these "brothers" are "brothers" in the gospel, or cousins. The problem is the original Greek word, ἀδελφοὶ means "A brother, member of the same religious community, especially a fellow-Christian. A brother near or remote." So it either means "brother" as in an actual brother (not a cousin) or it means a brother from the same religious community. Well, these "brothers" don't believe in Jesus, so they would not be called a "brother" in the same religious community. That means the only other option is a biological brother. Could it be a half brother (from Joseph not Mary)? I don't know enough about the Greek word to say yes or no, but the problem is the scriptures never mention another marriage by Joseph, or a first wife. This does not start showing up until about 200 years later in any church writings. So again, I take the Bible over documents written 200 years later. Does this mean that I don't respect the early church fathers, absolutely not. But if the Bible clearly teaches one thing, and they say something else, I go with Matthew who was an eye witness. Hope that helps. Again, I really am OK with people believing that Mary was always a virgin, so just responding. I hope you don't take it as an attack, because that is not my purpose. Just stating why I wrote what I wrote for the script.

Where does it say in scripture that Mary was always a virgin? She was a virgin when Jesus was born, no question on that, but Matthew 1:25 says that Joseph and Mary consummated the marriage after Jesus' birth.

But before we read Matthew, let's read the bible with amplified vision, not only one versicle. I will use a protestant version, King James, to you do not tell me that is the traduction. 1 - Brothers in jewish context isn’t referring always to real brothers of blood, sons of the same parents. Sometimes is used to refer to cousin and family like us christians that we refer to each other as brothers in Christ. Ok, knowing that, let’s see the gospels. 2- “And he went out from thence and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?” Mc 6, 1-3 The same Gospel also said: “There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; 41(Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.” Mc 15,40-41 “And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. Joses and James are sons of the Mary mother of Jesus or is another Mary? The first thing that we can learn from this evangelist is: The Mary mother of James and Joses isn’t the same Mary mother of Jesus. This is obviously because if James and Joses were sons of the same mother as Jesus, the evangelist wouldn’t call she as “mother of James and Joses”, clearly making a distinction. Now, let’s look at the gospel of Matthew. “And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him: 56Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children. Mt 27, 55-56 and… “And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. 61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.” Mt 27, 59-61 This confirms in two evangelist the distinction between the Mary mother of Jesus and this other Mary. So if James and Joses are sons of this other Mary then they aren’t brother’s of blood of Jesus but brothers as relatives, such cousin as said before. In the old testament we can see examples of it (Gn 31,36-37- 1Chronicles 23,21-22). Better than that, if we continue to read Mark 6, we will see the response of Jesus to their interpelation: “But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.” Mc 6,4. Ok, but we do not end in here, there is more evidence about the Jesus cousins. Let’s see what John say about that. “Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother and her sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene.” Jo 19, 25 Here the translation isn’t that good, the correct is that the Mary of Clopas as the sister of Mary mother of Jesus. It seems extremely unlikely that Mary’s parents would have given both her and her sister the name of Mary. However the text makes perfect sense if John is using the word “sister” to refer to a close relative of Jesus mother. Second point, the brother’s(cousins) of Jesus, James and Joses, are sons of this Mary, sister(relative) of Mary (mother of Jesus), and Clopas. Third point, if Jesus have other blood brother’s, it would have been unheard of Him to give his mother to one of his disciples?! Jesus in that moment of huge pain gave his mother to be cared to his beloved disciple because she would be alone. Now to end this point, we will have to have a look outside the bible in a well know Christian historian, Hegesippus from second century. Let’s quote him: “After James the Just had suffered martyrdom for the same reason as the Lord, Simon, his cousin, the son of Clopas, was appointed bishop, whom they all proposed because he was another cousin (in Greek anepsion) of the Lord.” Hegesippus, quoted in Eusebius, Ecclesiastical History 4,22) All ways goes to the same point, James, Joses, Simon, Juda are cousins, realtives of our Lord Jesus and not his blood brother’s. About Virginity of Mary, let’s finally come back to the word “until” used in Matthew. “But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a Son. And he gave Him the name Jesus.” Mt 1,25 In greek is the word heos(accent in o), this kind of “until” it is not to say that after the birth they will have relation but is a “until” only saying that even married she was untouched until the birth, simply describes a certain period of time, without consider the after. As we can see: “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand, until(heos) I put your enemies under your feet” Mt 22,44) or “and Michal the daughter of Saul had no child until(Greek heos) the day of her death” (2Samuel 6,23). Obviously the last passage is not saying that Michal will have children after his death, is only saying that until his death had no children. This explain the question of Mary to the angel: “In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27to a virgin pledged in marriage to a man named Joseph, who was of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. 28The angel appeared to her and said, “Greetings,b you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you” 29Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30So the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. 32He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. His kingdom will never end!” “How can this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” We know this is not the correct translation, but I’m using a protestant version as I said before, what Mary said was: “I know not man”. Ok, so Mary is already married with Joseph in the Jewish context, in a regular wedding, the woman to get a child have sexual relation to her husband, this is a natural process. So why Mary ask this strange question asking the “how” she will get this promised child?! It’s because she already have a vow of perpetual virginity to God. Two points, on that. First, comparing the questioning of Mary and Zacariah to the angel, him, doubts, she only ask “how” because she had made a vow of virginity and do not know how this will happen as she do not known and will not known because of this vow, a man. So the angel explain how: “The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be bornd will be called the Son of God. 36Look, even Elizabeth your relative has conceived a son in her old age, and she who was called barren is in her sixth month. 37For no word from God will ever fail. I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it happen to me according to your word.” Then the angel left her.” Lc 1, 35-38 Second point, look at old testament, and see how a woman makes a vow. “If a woman marries while under a vow or rash promise by which she has bound herself, 7and her husband hears of it but says nothing to her on that day, then the vows or pledges by which she has bound herself shall stand. 8But if her husband prohibits her when he hears of it, he nullifies the vow that binds her or the rash promise she has made, and the LORD will absolve her.” (Numbers 30, 6-8) And… “Her husband may confirm or nullify any vow or any sworn pledge to deny herself. 14But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then he confirms all the vows and pledges that bind her. He has confirmed them, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard about them. 15But if he nullifies them after he hears of them, then he will bear her iniquity. 16These are the statutes that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the relationship between a man and his wife, and between a father and a young daughter still in his home.” (Numbers 30, 13-16) See, Joseph married Mary knowing her vow of virginity because he was a just man. The expression “deny herself” is used to vows of sexual abstinence and fast. In the case of Mary was of sexual relations. Now intercorrelating all the points here, is much more clear that Mary do not have any other child, that Mary still virgin before, during the birth and after the birth of Jesus, our Lord. Even more, God made in her marvelous things she would be proclaimed blessed for all the generations, the holy mother of God.

Why don't you read it yourself? Stop listening to kthers. Ask The Holy Spirit to kpen yor eyes when reading it. God says His people perish because of a lack of vision. Don't be fooled. Mary was a disciple, not a Mediator or a Priest. Don't be fooled.

That's just not true. The Gospels make it very clear that Mary and Joseph had children together after the birth of Jesus. In Matthew 13: 54-56, the townsfolk of Capernaum mention Jesus' brothers by name, and in John 7: 1-5, we see that those brothers were not always believers, yet they are still referred to as "brothers." Read your Bible. You have either not understood what you have read or you have been taught incorrectly.
