It’s one of the great tragedies that Disney gave up on this reboot iteration and didn’t complete this story with these characters. They clearly introduced Cillian Murphy as the villain here and I would have loved to see where he took the role. That and seeing Quorra adapt to the real world. Hugely disappointing it was left unfinished.

One little correction: Flynn didn't create quorra or any of the ISOs. They came into being by themselves. A spontaneous creation of life by itself. Also I recommend playing the game, Tron Evolution. It's not revolutionary, but deals with the emergence and resistance fight of the ISOs. So it's set inbetween the films.

Yes! Maybe Mary didn't catch it, but Quorra even mentioned that a rogue program (the main player, Anon---I think---from "Tron: Evolution") got her out of the city before she was found by Flynn. Which (obvs spoiler) lines up with the ending of the game that makes it all part of the canon.

Great movie. To answer your question about the ending, Clu was about to get out so Flynn did the only thing he could do to prevent that from happening. Also the whole system wasn’t destroyed, just the area around the portal which included Clu’s army and ships. Sam downloaded the grid onto the portable drive he hangs around his neck, showing he has plans for the Grid. The director also has said that Kevin Flynn’s fate may be different than what we saw.

Tron Legacy was the forerunner to the MCU Visual upgrade that would come in phases 2 & 3. When the breakdown circulated throughout the VFX and UI FX world it reimagined what could be done in the world of Visual Effects. Since the seamless integration of digital and human interaction was so flawless. We have to thank the folks at Digital Domain (known for VFX work on the entire MCU, Avatar, Titanic, X-Men, 5th Element and countless more). IT gave other producers and directors the balls to say hey if they can do it we can do better. The MCU most certainly stepped up to the challenge.

At 22:41, he did. If you notice, he steps outside the barrier of his building to say the words, "The Sea of Simulation". Then steps back inside. Thinking about it in terms of computers, the "End of Line Club" is a privatized network. But in stepping outside of the barrier, he's now in "Public Space". He literally says a code word or phrase, and the security systems traced the comment to the "End of Line" club, where the message originated. This film is shot BEAUTIFULLY. If it helps, imagine this whole scene as someone getting threatening messages. "Sea of Simulation" is the threat, Zuse is the sender, and the location of the phone message is "The End of Line" Club. So Clue was able to send his soldiers right there. In this film, "The Grid" IS NOT, just a metaphor. Everything, from walls, to patterns on the street, are all actually programed "Zones". Even the stairs that Zuse shows off, is probably a metaphor for extending a link to a private message room. Somewhere they can't have their communication traced or "Listened into". That is until Zuse leans his head out and shots, "Black man with a GUN, OFFICER DOWN!" (metaphorically ONLY!) And the cops come bursting in, not unlike a security firewall, protecting the server, (The Grid) from threats to the system, (Kevin Flynn, Sam Flynn, anyone not ACTIVELY pinged as a agent of Clue and the system). ALSO FUN FACT, The bartender behind the counter of the main room, is actually the original creator/writer of TRON. In his own words, "It feels like I fell asleep 30 years ago on the Set of TRON, and woke up on TRON: Legacy. Sometimes if you want something done right, it takes just about forever. But it's worth it."

It's a great film. And I think Sam didn't seem as upset in the end scene maybe because he already had mourned the death of his dad for years when he was a kid that maybe he was just glad he got to be with him at the end there. But a cool little thing is that he makes a copy of The Grid and put it on the drive on the necklace there, so there could be a cool little Easter egg with Flynn being alive in spirit.

I love Tron Legacy, sure there's broad strokes of similarity to Tron with the story, but the execution is better this time round. And the aesthetic and Daft Punks soundtrack elevate it to one of Disney's best-looking live action films of the modern era.

Such an underrated movie. Kasinski is one of those directors with an elite talent for achieving the perfect tone (Oblivion). And Daft Punk's music just brings everything up to epic, specifically the bridge scene and my personal favorite credits music in any film.

Tron has always been a fantasy nightmare for me a computer science type. LOVE the music and world aesthetics. I've been a big Tron fan over the years, i still rewatch this film regularly. 39:07 He was sad but was overcome with the joy of finally being able to meet his father and being entrusted with his lifes work, his Legacy. Sam had problems moving forward, finding purpose in his life. His father's company told him it was important but he didn't feel any need to lead it. After seeing his father's life work, he finds meaning and a renewed purpose in life, this overshadows the loss of his father who was gone half his life previously. This story really connected with me personally when i think about my own dad's lifes work.

This has been one of my favorite movies for a long time since I first watched it back in 2010ish, and led to me watching the original afterward! It also introduced me to my future wife Olivia lol. Glad you liked it! One small thing that I think you missed about Quorra (Olivia), Kevin didn't create her (or the other ISO's), they just manifested naturally from the system; Kevin briefly says this when he first talks to Sam.

As a Kingdom Hearts fan, I was glad I checked out this movie before playing Dream Drop Distance. One of the things I enjoyed the most about the film was Daft Punk. They worked on the music for this film including the lead single Derezzed before going to work on what would be their final album Random Access Memories. It's now been a little over a year since they disbanded. I'm still sad about it, but I'm also glad that they were around. Discovery is still one of my favorite albums to date, and the anime film Interstella Four Five is also a gem.

So glad you watched TRON’82 before this flick to fully appreciate how special this release was. You’re a delight, Mary Cherry!🍒 Daft Punk’s contribution in every single way was perrrrrrfection. A casting clinic & easter eggs galore (as is a tech programmer nod). The direction, the screenplay, the cinematography to let the graphics GLEAM. It was simply enveloping on the big screen with deep bass & deft use of surround sound. It’s a fantastic reminder to get your butt out to movie theaters & support cinema in every way you can.🍿🔊🎞️

This is on my short list of movies worth seeing in 3D in a theater. The real world shots were all 2D, but when they went into the grid, it was all 3D. Such a fun transition. And the noise the theater made when the recognizer swooped down on Sam when he left Flynn's was damn near deafening and terrifying in 3D. Up there with my favorite movie theater experiences.

LOVE this movie so much. Thank you for reacting to it! One aspect of it was the serious "uncanny valley" effect of CLU. That's a software term for when a visual aspect is close to reality but people grow uncomfortable or even scared viewing it, as it's not quite RIGHT. The uncanny valley effect is a drop in acceptance curve when people view something modeled after something real that goes up to a certain point then drops in a valley until reaching 100%. The theory is because ancient humans would, watching the tall grasses in primordial Africa, see a lion's eyes peeking through the grass and the slight difference was enough to separate survivors from victims. The point is CLU is close enough to resembling Kevin Flynn you almost accept it but at the same time are unnerved by it. They really made it work in the movie; my GF was seriously scared of him. The ominous music surrounding him (performed BRILLIANTLY by Daft Punk) added on. Another often missed aspect is how CLU is so jealous of Sam. CLU is also a "creation" of Kevin Flynn, so he naturally sees Sam, who Kevin probably told him about, as a natural rival. And he's angry that his creator views this imperfect thing as "better". A theme in the movie is the pride of Flynn, seeing CLU as just a mirror of himself when CLU was in fact a completely independent creation, who wanted his creator's approval and resented his rejections. That pride is why the insurrection happened. Even at the end, Kevin Flynn stll doesn't understand how CLU feels, he sees his own failures on perfection as reflected in CLU. When he doesn't realize that all CLU wanted was him to recognize him as a creation, a son, just like Sam.

I used to belong to an organization that did themed room parties at sci-fi conventions. And in 2011, we did a Tron themed room party, called it the End of Line Club, and our DJ dressed up as Zuse. Our friends thought that we had actual props from the movie (we didn't), and those that didn't know us, thought that we were from Disney.

He lived without his dad for so long, it kind of separates you from those family feelings. I think I would be the same way about my mother if I ran into her and we had a moment. My parents were separated when I was 3 years old and I havn't seen my mother since then it's been a couple decades now so I can tell you with experience here. And I always figured if it was the other way around, and it was someone who was close to you, the person may feel that it was a blessing that you got to spend another day with them rather than sad that you'll never see them again.
