Maryland Farm & Harvest

Күн бұрын

Al Spoler heads to Running W Farm in Chestertown, where farmer Jim Lindauer raises the unique Highland breed of cattle. Al gets up close and personal with these cows, which are known for their hairy coats and long horns. Jim raises these cattle because of their ability to thrive in a grass-fed operation. Highlands also produce leaner meat than other breeds. Al samples some of this beef in a few sandwiches from the Happy Chicken Bakery.

We raise highland cattle also, they do just fine without being fed grains. Ours also like to be brushed, well some of them. I didn't know that the pumpkins are good for worms, we always feed them the kids pumpkins after they are done. I will have to try and get extras from a local farm or maybe grow a patch.

chickens are even better for worms...just section up your fields a bit and move the cows and 4 days behind them run a mobile chicken hut and you will only have to deworm your cows 1x...the dinos will take care of the rest.

I really enjoyed watching this video. It was very well put together. Loved the sandwiches at the end. Yum can you imagine having that with a coffee. Highland beef is my favorite beef of all time.

I can't believe people are actually breeding these cows overseas, it Scotland they are pretty much a wild animal. Obviously, we do have breeders but the cows roam like wild animals.

I'm surprised. I'd love to see more of these. They would be a better choice meat than the breeds commonly raised here.

Not surprising since ranching basically began in Scotland.

Highlander beef is the best beef I've ever eaten by a very long shot. I dare say it's even better than wagyu. Never had Kobe, but don't feel the need to. Highlander is supreme beef.

How are they possessing the meat? To sell direct to the consumer is an USDA butcher necessary?
@jeremiahpowell355
@jeremiahpowell355 2 ай бұрын
All you have to do is send your animal to USDA butcher in my state but it is absolutely insane that it Hass to be done by USDA butcher. In Connecticut you were allowed to sell bulk like half and quarters cause technically you’re selling the cow and the consumer is supposed to pay for the cow not the butchering job

you can actually make more money selling them for non beef production than to eat them by a long shot if you only have a small herd...i dont know how much you can make per year doing this but i know there are some small hobby ranchers that do just this.

I was thinking the same thing. I fast forwarded from them brushing them to him showing some frozen meat. It seems so incongruous and strange to me.
