Love your content. Pro Tip* on garlic with dumplings- take a bite of the jiao zi first, THEN while chewing, bite a bit of the garlic. It softens the blow meanwhile infusing the garlic Qi into the food. :)

Oh my! This makes me want to go back to Changchun to explore all these food spots! I was born in Changchun and so were both my parents, but I haven't lived there full time since I was a child. I've to this day never been anywhere in China unaccompanied by a family member, never paid for anything or haggled for anything there, and never crossed a major street there alone. My family is super musically inclined, so when eating out, we will almost always go to one of those places with private rooms and karaoke machines, leading to me never having explored smaller food spots or street food. I feel like I've missed out. Also, Changchun has changed a LOT over the years. My mom's former elementary school is now the center of a giant intersection. Her former PhD institution has merged with her undergrad alma mater and they're now one and the same. The one-story traditional style houses across the street from my childhood home are now 7-story residential buildings. And every time we go back, something is different. A building we used to live in no longer exists, a neighborhood our friends lived in has been torn down, our favorite restaurant from the previous few summer was now out of business, a park that held childhood memories no longer has the playground or activities we remember, etc. It's really crazy. Things are not even recognizable. The apps that Chinese people use on the daily are completely unfamiliar to me, and I have trouble navigating things in Chinese altogether because a lot of technical and technological vocabulary are unfamiliar to me. My aunts and uncles have also moved to a different part of town from my childhood home, so I haven't gotten to even visit my old home or its neighborhood the last few times I was there. My childhood home was in a crowded neighborhood, walking distance to an open market, a hospital, and a lot of other stuff, which give me such memories, while my aunts' and uncles' current homes are in more Western-style houses far removed from the center of action.

It's not always a joke....I'm Jewish, so I don't celebrate Christmas. But our family tradition, was to go out for Chinese food and a movie on Christmas. That's how I learned to LOVE Chinese food(which, of course, is not real Chinese food, but is the American interpretation). I hope one day to have the real thing! Happy Holidays to you all. I love that you guys ate raw garlic with the dumplings! That was how we were taught to eat them growing up! Also, in the military you ate raw garlic with everything. Helps your immune systems!

I am a cyclist and when I am camping/touring I make a similar dish with dried noodles, pickled vegetables chili crisp and potato powder.

Like your vide. The video is very intriguing. Seems to be with you on the food adventure all the time. He is the right one for you. Love that you have to persuade him to share the food, when his eyes obviously shine with love.

This kinda reminds of a dish from my home Province of Yunnan, basically 豌豆粉米线 or 豌豆粉饵丝. We'd put Yunnanese rice noodles （米线） or 饵丝 in a soup made from pea starch （豌豆粉） with garlic, cilantro, chilli oil, etc, where the noodles would soak up all the flavor. Your mouth would be covered in the starchy paste after a bite. Soooooooo good

I aspirated it and long story short, after much coughing and other gross stuff the candy was gone but not before tearing my throat so badly that it's still bleeding 16 hours later. I'm not even allowed ramen noodles! Shame on my medical team 😂
