I thought Johnny boy Gomes was nuts, Mason is absolutely balls to the wall on another level. He surfs in absolutely no fucking way spots. He also must have tapped into some knowledge or mental state to be so in tune with consequential terrain. I grew up in an area, very shallow reef with pockets in between and for whatever reason we always ended up in there instead of on the shallow rocks but you had to be calm and not panic. Visitors would hit the rocks and get worked trying to fight the current then leave. We had a spot that others wouldn't come back to for ourselves in Makaha beach. Makaha had so many surfers it was too crazy sometimes 130+ people all trying to surf 4 to 6 waves a set you do the math people are going to jump on the same waves and fights or shooting surfboards at other guys trying to catch their wave, seen people with holes through their arms, legs gouged etc. It could get nasty especially if not from the area. Ah memories.....
