The London Oratory was completed in 1884 and has stood as it appears ever since (the only addition being the Newman altar under the choir loft, the calvery next to it, the statue of St Wilfried and the renovation of St Joseph’s chapel). Tolkien and his brother never served mass here, nor attended mass. Please get facts correct

@@bsms254 This is an honest mistake, as I was researching the Birmingham Oratory and this came up with all the videos about the Birmingham Oratory. My comment referred to the Birmingham Oratory. My facts are straight, the location is wrong.

From what I read many English luminaries and authors including Agatha Christie who were not even Roman catholic voiced there hatred and disgust for the New form of the mass. hey felt the Old form of the mass totaly in Latin with exception of the Homely and gospel readings was the High point of western culture and religiouse devotion and was deeply spiritually and atheticly pleashing and good. I agree with them!

@@mariogeorgiev2932 I’m afraid there’s no substitute for the Tridentine Mass, or the liturgical calendar that it follows. The Novus Ordo at the London oratory is unique, but its not the same elsewhere. Whereas the Tridentine Mass, is exactly the same, everywhere its held.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on that point. Personally I love the Tridentine Mass and I think it is extremely reverent but we cannot say it is inherently more reverent than the "Novus Ordo" since, 1. It was a validly promulgated rite of the latin church, by Paul VI, a canonized Pope who was inspired by the Second Vatican Council's call for the liturgical revision. I would also state that apparently there have been many reports, especially among latin Masses celebrated at diocesan churches, that liturgical abuses have occurred and masses have been celebrated not in an ideal manner. Liturgical abuse is not exclusive to the Novus Ordo. Also, I really love the way Mass is celebrated in this Oratory and you gotta notice how ad orientem masses are growing in uses throughout the world and I'm very confident for the future of our church with our newly ordained priests, they will lead us into a new Era after some crazy liturgical chaos. It has gotten better since the 70s and many church documents have been issued against liturgical abuses, like Redemptoris Sacramentum.

@@francisobi6851 you may disagree all you like but the facts speak for itself. Paul the VI Mass - the Nervous Disordo - is a mess. Forget the ad orientem worship for just a minute. There are so many theological problems with that Mass that it’s hard to begin to unravel. There are four different Canons. So on any given day in the same church, there could be four different Masses…where’s the unity in worship? Out of those four canons one was written on a napkin in a coffe bar in Rome by a modernist liturgist called Vagagini and another based on the prayers of a condemned heretic. The man who constructed the Mass, Bugnini (and indeed Paul VI) is a suspected free mason. No, the Novus Ordo Mass is inherently open to abuse. The Tridentine Mass is not.
