Same here. I think i am one of the few who really liked Vega as a character. He showed how Shephard had grown from a guy who was mentored and guided into situations, to making his own paths and mentoring/guiding others.

I like Vega for the same reason i like iron bull: you always need a grounded bruiser with a decent sense of being “down in the dirt with the other grunts”, and a penchant for carrying the biggest weapon into the field (along with having the muscle mass to carry said weapon). Hell, the two characters share a lot of similarities, seeing as how they are both formally introduced as companions to the player in the third entry of their respective bioware trilogies.

I think James is cool, gives us that average dude(well he isn't average, look at them guns) who has no special biotics or tech skills, just a marine who wants to kick ass. He may seem one dimensional but he is down to earth, chill, and that bruiser you want holding the line when shit hits the fan. A total bro.

The reason why he is so disliked is that he doesnt stand up to the rest of the crew. Not just in personality, but in the common history with Shepard. When they first encountered Shepard in ME1 and ME2, some werent special right away: Garrus was just a desillusioned cop. Wrex was the merc with a violent temper. Ashley was a bitter space racist. Tali was just a crafty teenager. Kaiden was just boring (most people left him on Virmire anyway). Liara was a naive cheerleader. Mordin was a crazy scientist. Jack was a violent psychopath. Grunt was a violent teenager. Miranda was just an arrogant bitch. Jacob....well fuck Jacob. Samara was basicly a jedi. Morinth was just another homicidal psychopath and a thot. Kasumi was a sassy sauce. Zaeed was an asshole. Thane was a badass assassin and a dead man walking. Legion was a curious terminator. Most of them werent that great from the start, but grew on us with their character development. Some were total badasses others irreplaceble friends from ME1. The history they share with Shepard is was made them so beloved. James Vega just cant compete with them. He is a good soldier, who has seen a lot of action and is basicly Shepard at the start of ME1 - just a normal human soldier standing beside accomplished individuals (Anderson and Nihlus). And case of Vega: He is just a talented newcomer among legends.

Draupnir Foamybeard Because of the writer's decision to just let him pop up in the beginning, and then stuff all of his background stories into practically...three conversations. His attitude resembles one of a player new to Mass Effect, which may annoy a lot of veteran players. I don't know if this is true but I think some don't like him because he's another human in a game where players are more keen on exploring aliens. Personally, I think he's quite OK because he's a straightforward kinda guy and soldier who fights for what he believes in, and in combat, he's really hard to kill, (hilariously) making him the canon fodder for my weaker Shepard (Adept, Engineer).

Even without it he's still a lot more likable than boring Kaidan

James' problem with male Shep is that they should have a "Bro" relationship (not in a negative way). But since Garrus is already the ultimate Bro for Maleshep, Vega could only lose in comparison. So he is kind of redundant from a writers perspective.

Dylan Beavon Wrex IS her grandfather...so weird to think about :) You get to meet Liaras "father" in Illium in me2, if your Conrad Verner survives the first game, you meet him in that bar making trouble, and when you get rid of Conrad one way or other she thanks you and you get the chance to hear her story. I think her name is Aytheta or something. And she tells her parents story, which is the same story as Wrex going toe to toe with an asari commando in that spacestation. So, yeah, you get to meet Liaras grandfather at least. :)

Shepard wasn't in prison. He/She was relieved of active duty, pending "investigations", and their association with Cerberus. The Alliance couldn't actually imprison Shepard, because they're the only living human with knowledge of the Reapers.

During the debriefing on Mass Effect 2's "Arrival" DLC Hackett himself points out how Shepard's only choice, really, is to give themselves in and transfer all the assets that they had direct control over, with the exclusion of the squadmates and some of the crew - like Dr. Chakwas who voluntarily joined Shepard's crew but did not join Cerberus unlike Ken Donnely and Gabriela Daniels. (Engineers)

Reminds me of a weird ass dream I had one night after a 5 hour long drunk gameplay session. All I remember is I did something to fuck up Garrus's plans so he came at me roaring angrily like Saren did Benezia. Seeing Garrus like that actually scared me, and he stared beating the shit out of me. Eventually he pulled a pistol out, Grunt who was just off to the side watching finally headbutt Garrus and broke his face. Made him look like in ME2 when the blue suns chopper got him, with the addition of one of his mandibles dangling. I woke up after that.

The only bissexual characters are Kaidan and Dianna Allers (I'm not counting Liara since she is monogender and she would be more of a pansexual, since Asari can go out with almost any living being.... And Shepard is the player caracter, he/she is what the player wants he/she to be). What is correct is that sexuallity is not a big deal in the game's universe, there's no prejudice about sexual orientation (at least I never spotted any particular offensive comment).
