I'm tired of everyone talking about his death, whether you killed him or not but if you have a high enough reputation, you can save him from dying and he won't cure the genophage, there are both Paragon and Renegade options for it depending on your alignment. Wrex if he's alive finds out but Wreav is too stupid to realize it, This video shows you how to save Mordin.
Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
If you want to see the renegade option its here: • Mass Effect 3 - Keepin...
Shepard can also kill Mordin: • Mass Effect 3 - Shepar...

Damn. You can really make the case this is the best classic Bioware got, and then they rushed much of the rest of the game (even the replacement for Mordin, Padok Wiks, who nobody ever sees, is the best "replacement" character, during this arc.) It's like a TNG Klingon episode where all that "choice!" stuff is actually relevant and fascinatingly done.

But if Wrex and Eve are both alive, then there's a damn good chance that the krogan would actually become peaceful members of galactic civilization.

Kit Clarke Nope. The keystone is Eve. Wrex + Eve alive - Mordin cannot be saved, and you can only stop him from curing the genophage by shooting him yourself (you monster). Wreav + Eve alive - same thing. At least I've never gotten an option to talk him down, he seems to think Eve can hold Wreav in check. Wreav only - you can charm or dominate him to not die (or shoot him, you monster). Wrex only -- I'm not sure on this one and I don't have a save file to go check - I *thought* if Eve was dead you could still talk him down because you convince him that Wrex alone can't hold back the lesser natures of the Krogen.

As much as Mordin's death killed me (and I mean KILLED me; I bawled my eyes out for a good 20 minutes) I think it's better he died curing the genophage for a number of reasons. Salarians only live to be about 40 years old. Although Mordin's exact age isn't known he often makes comments about how he's "getting old". I think it's clear, on that basis, that he's somewhere in his mid to late 30s. He regretted his work on the genophage; or rather, in his words, he wanted to "fix" it. "Regrets nothing. Can only move forward." In curing the genophage ... he died a redeemed hero. An old salarian, and friend, who was able to fix his only regret.

***** Both Wrex and Eve pledged to keep it under control. They said they only wanted a few uninhabited planets (which is a small price to pay for saving the galaxy) and that the krogan wouldn't make the same mistake as before. If not for that, I wouldn't have had any problem with keeping the genophage in place. But everyone deserves a second chance. The krogran were manipulated and then cast aside like broken weapons. They wanted revenge for a long time, but the females and Wrex have long since abandoned that viewpoint. I don't believe they have any interest in conquering the galaxy anymore.

+absolutezero1000 Agreed. Some dislike how Mordin's mistake line felt crammed in there just to make him more compassionate (and let this cool cutscene play out), but I always thought that Mordin felt bad about his decision deep down. He just always intellectualizes it to everyone including himself. He always tries to explain and justify his decision, and ignore his inner doubts. His realization and heel-face turn made him even more compelling, at least for me (and you).

Some of the decisions you have to make are very tough and you could argue one way or another which is the more moral thing to do. I would like to see Bioware instead of the top option being Paragon and the bottom option being Renegade, to not clearly label which is paragon and which is renegade. Let the player who thinks they are pure paragon decide based on the choice itself by themself, not by where it is positioned on the wheel.
@gmanswan
@gmanswan 10 жыл бұрын
I'd love that idea, if it weren't for the fact that A: so many responses depend on prior responses in a paragon or renegade manner(really hard to be a paragon when 1/4th of the way through the game all the paragon options are blanked out), and B: often times what shepard says and what the wheel implies are not really related. At all. A decent solution would be to significantly reduce the amount of paragon points are necessary for all scenarios, so you can get away with less paragon points. If you did that, this would be an extremely amazing change, since right now everyone just goes all renegade or all paragon, limiting yourself to essentially two shepards. With this chance you could have dozens of potential shepards! Maybe throw in an easter egg or two for someone with full paragon/renegade scores. But don't base the entire game on it, not when you claim the game gives you meaningful choices.
@lostn65
@lostn65 10 жыл бұрын
demiserofd I agree. What's written on the wheel is very different to what he actually says, which is why I have trouble playing Renegades. The responses on the wheel sound very douchy and undiplomatic. But when you actually choose them, it's not that bad at all. The tone is much more negative on the wheel than in reality. I'd like interrupts to not be color coded. Shooting a bad guy to save someone else should not be considered a Renegade action. I mean letting them shoot first and kill someone when you could have prevented it would be even worse right? But because I tried to be pure, I didn't take renegade interrupts. That and the fact that a lot of the time they give you no context on what is actually going to happen. I say randomize the positions on the wheel which give paragon points and which give renegade. If you understand the differences between the two you should have no trouble figuring out which is which. It's when the difficult choices need to be made that you aren't sure, and in those instances, we shouldn't have the game clearly label it for us.
@Chrinik
@Chrinik 10 жыл бұрын
lostn65 I agree. I would also like no meter, no lable at all, simply have the options, but don´t call them "good or evil" "Paragon or Renegade"...just have them. I played paragrade. Usually good aligned but when push comes to shove, not too knightly to threaten a guy or shoot an asshole or punch a ninja assasin dude in the face for revenge.
@Chrinik
@Chrinik 10 жыл бұрын
congokong87 Which is why I would have preferred no lables at all. The "Paragon" and "Renegade" labels, and that the paragon option is always on top, the renegade on the bottom, and the neutral in the middle is a grade A mistake in a morality system. You should be questioning your motives and the consequences before deciding, not going "welp, I´m playing a paragon shepard so I pick the top answer, get my paragon points and damn the consequences." Without a label or a clear way of identifying what is the "good" and what is the "bad" option, morality systems work much better, they make you question the situation at hand instead of confirming to which gives you the preferred points to spend. Sure, some questions and choices where VERY gray and grey morality wise, but that doesn´t change the fact that the player KNOWS the Paragon option is good, and the renegade option is bad... Also, Paragon is unity, you are a paragon of your race and therefore make allies that will inevitably help you, while renegade is strife, alienating others and driving them away from you and each other...it´s not good and bad, but with intergalactic warfare, what do you think is "better"...obviously unity is a good thing.
@lostn65
@lostn65 10 жыл бұрын
Chrinik If that's the point you're making, then I agree completely. It was what I originally suggested. Paragon and Renegade should not even be defined at all. Interrupts should not have a symbol, there should be no red or blue option on the wheel, and where they appear on the wheel should be randomized each time. It should just be your decisions your consequences, no bar telling you which side you veered towards, except maybe in the end credits. And then your major decisions like genophage, and quarian/geth resolution should be compared to what everyone else did.

Bioware is amazing for that, totally a unique gaming experience. I've been a gamer most of my life. I'm 26 and just got into this game...the choices, the many choices this trilogy has to offer is huge. I suspect the next Mass Effect game will be quite hard for Bioware to progress our Shepherds choices, seeing as they have to remember our choices at every opportunity as a reminder and having new choices aswell. Still, let's hope the time they are spending is creating an amazing storyline with reasonable consequences, and of course romance scenes with aliens will be better

With Wrex and Eve dead, this was the best choice. But in my play through both Eve and Wrex survived, and it was Wreave who ended up dead, so curing the genophage was the right call. It all depends on how you play it. Going renegade on the first two games was perfectly fine, but in the third game going renegade just means you're going to have to stab a few of your old friends in the back, unfortunately.

Yeah you saved your friend. But you had to commit genocide to do it. That doesn't sound very paragon to me. Mordin's sacrifice was nobel. You hear in his voice how much he hated his choice to continue the genophage. The Krogan are far from saints. But to wipe them out entirely is wrong. We heard how the genophage turned them against each other and started infighting and war. Imagine getting pregnant every year and every time the baby is stillborn. That's a level of suffering no one should ever have to have.
@konfou
@konfou 9 жыл бұрын
The genophage doesn't wipe them out. Instead it allows only 1 in 1000 children to survive with actual births far externding that number. That is the Krogans continue reproducing but on less ammounts. Also, you don't just save Mordin but you get the Salarian fleet to your side. Both of them powerful war assets.
@TheRepty818
@TheRepty818 9 жыл бұрын
Konstantinos Foutzopoulos That means for every Krogan born there are 999 stillborn children. At the rate Krogan fight, there's no way they could continue as a species with that fertility rate. In Mass Effect 2 they mentioned how desperate females were to get pregnant that they subjected themselves to experimentation. I'm not saying the choice is very clear cut but keeping the genophage is the worst of the two. You have to lie in the faces of the Krogan leaders so that they'll fight along side you against the reapers. Knowing full and well that you didn't fix them. Sure you get the Salarian Fleet on your side but at what cost? There is a part in the game where Garrus asks if all we do is cruel math. Sacrifice a 100 here to save 200 elsewhere. But Shepard replies if we become that cold, then how different are we than the reapers? Also Mordin mentioned how this is all their fault anyway. Krogan society was in it's infancy when the council races gave them space ships and guns. That's like if we went back in time and gave vikings or spartan's jet planes and nuclear bombs.

Vict0r1984 I'm sorry is there an internet law that when you dissagree with someone on the internet you have to be insulting. Don't get me wrong I can see your logic but a couple of things. 1. Why is Wrex dead? Did you kill him in the first game? Wouldn't you get just as pissed if someone was planning on taking down a group of people looking to destroy a cure to a disease killing your planet? 2. You forget about Eve. Krogan women seem to be much smarter than the men. She's leading them down a path, not of violence but peace. The Krogan can build up their population as much as they want but they can't take new worlds without approval of the council. They can self regulate. Any klan that tries to take a new world will have Wrex to answer to. Mass Effect is a brilliant series because you have the option to commit Genocide multiple times. And each time it's a tough choice. Did you kill the Rachni (they were just as dangerous as Krogan), Did you wipe out the Geth (also dangerous and unpredictable), did you let the Quarian's die(in return for Geth Armies). None of the choices are easy. But that's the point. Sometimes doing the right thing is the tougher choice.

This is basically the Reapers fault. I was just playing the Noveria mission in ME1 and the Rachni queen stated that they brought war because their leaders voices were silenced one after the other and replaced with a sour yellow note. Sounds like they were being manipulated by something or someone (Reaper Indoctrination). Seems like all this was the cause of the Reapers to have the galaxy in a state of panic, making it easier for them to do their cycle. Which of course uplifting the Krogans to fight the indoctrinated rachni only slowed the Reapers plans. If the Reapers never used the Racni the Krogans would have never been used by the Citadel Council and Mordin would have never had to make such choices. Just something else to consider.

+Jordan Shank The only downside is that if Shepard chooses anything other than integrating synthetics and biotics, this result is the end of either all species or all krogran. No matter how stupid Wreav is, the krogan won't need much time before they realize they've been lied to: their reproductive course is really fast. Choosing to keep the Genophage going and to put Wreav in power means that shortly after the reapers are dealt with, there will be another war with the krogan; maybe they'll be able to finish off the weakened galaxy, or maybe their low numbers won't be able to conquer and they'll go extinct , but this outcome fucks things up a lot.

Except he doesn't live as a cheater and coward. He maintains all knowledge of the cure for use after the Reapers, assists in building the Crucible to stop them, and doesn't risk the entire Galaxy living under a looming Krogan shadow during its recovery. Even with Wrex & Eve alive, it'd take a long time for the Krogan to stabalize, especially when even Wrex is looking forward to aggressive Krogan expansion to recouperate from the Genophage. As much as we all love Wrex, and as influencial as Eve is, they are not a guarantee that every Krogan will think like they do.

FlorenceBouvier Tbh, with Wreav in charge and Eve dead, this is the best option possible. @bigbowss9817
@bigbowss9817 6 жыл бұрын
RopeDrink I disagree with that, Krogan have strong sense of honor and the respect due to the leader who cured their entire race from the genophage, who is also supported by first female shaman cured from it is gonna hold them back. Plus with Council giving them a bigger place in galactic society and warbounds formed while fighting the Reapers, animosity with the other species is bound to be reduced (as shown in the ending anyway if you chose to cure the genophage). Anyway Wrex is not an idiot, you cant fool him if you take the Salarian deal, so you just betray a friend for nothing and lose a strong ally against the Reapers doing that...
@RopeDrink
@RopeDrink 6 жыл бұрын
You can disagree with it all you like. No one-Krogan (with or without a Shaman support) will control every other Krogan in the galaxy - it is simply not possible. They would influence the majority, yes, but even with them in charge, a very real shadow still looms over everyone seeing as the Krogans are free to expand in and outside of that circle however they please. They reproduce so much that anyone who thinks Wrex/Eve alone will keep Krogan in check clearly aren't too familiar with ME lore. This isn't about honour or intelligence. I have no idea why that was even raised.
@bigbowss9817
@bigbowss9817 6 жыл бұрын
RopeDrink Majority is good enough to give the Krogan that chance. If Wrex and Eve has support and backing from majority of their species, then segment that doesnt want to fall in line will be dealt with and/or isolated. Urdnot Clan was already the dominating force on Tuchanka even before he cured the genophage (just out of the respect gained when Wrex killed a Treasher Maw in his Rite of Passage, so yes, honor and respect are important factors in Krogan society).. Those I can see rebelling would be Blood Pack mercenaries for example, but how is it different from what Cerberus was for humans or Heretics for the geth. Every species have their trouble makers, but at least you didnt participate to genocide because a portion might not want to cooporate. With Wreav in charge, I agree that its just shortsighted to cure them now, but not with Wrex and Eve alive...

This technically isn't a good way to do this, pretty much every player that goes the paragon route will have the cure, which means Mordin dies, going this route on your video shows how evil this shepard is. I knew from the start you can keep mordin alive if you do it this way, but any real paragon would have the cure from the start, those who don't, don't care if mordin lives or dies, since they pick the red option anyway.

Vedran Noneofyourbusiness two things to consider though.one, despite what many seem to believe whole Paragon and Renegade system in the Mass Effect games is not strictly good & evil like many seem to believe. all the Paragon and Renegade system truly is this different approaches to solving the same problem either be diplomatic or be ruthless but being diplomatic doesn't necessarily mean you're doing the right thing as we see here. the Commander Shepard in this video is being diplomatic and logical about why he feels Mordon shouldn't cure the genophage and it makes sense given the context of the situation but he still screwing over an entire species because of it which is obviously bad but it's more complex than that obviously. if he had went Renegade here it just meant that he didn't care at all what happened to the krogan but here because he's being Paragon he obviously feels guilty about his choice but he knows he has to make it but it's still a f*****-up choice. doing at the Paragon why doesn't change that because being Paragon doesn't equal being good neither does being Renegade equal being evil

The chances of Wreav using that once the Reapers were gone was to great. Also Sheperd doesn't say they wont ever cure them he just says not now. It benefits everyone in the long run. Krogan think - oh it might just take time - Salarians pretend to be reluctant to help - in fact they're pleased too - To be honest it's more of a dick move to the Salarians because your going to fuck them over later.

FauxRebel Except in those versions you're thinking of you saving Wrex in ME 1 and saving Maelon's research in ME 2. If you chose those decisions wrong for whatever reason, nobody's gonna wanna go back 2 games to do EVERYTHING the same way again with the exception of 2 choices. With Wreav being a petty violent bastard, and Eve being dead, the Krogan will turn bloodthirsty again and threaten the whole galaxy after the war. In the cases where Wrex and Eve live, YES...Mordin has to die. They are saving their species and helping the galaxy, so his sacrifice would be necessary. But here where most of the galaxy will be weak after the Reaper threat and Wreav will be in charge of the strongest race in the galaxy, not only is making them able to reproduce again a statistical error, but a moral error as well. Besides, he even said that the cure can still be dispensed in food and water supply in the coming years. If he dies here, its a waste of a perfect mind that can help create a system for administering the cure before he passes away(as this is near the end of his lifetime). Letting Mordin die right away would be the REAL crime because then they wouldn't be able to be cured at ALL.

Paragon in a sense that you come clean with the sabotage, and your intention is to limit what control Wreave has with his race by not curing them, since Wreave is the Renegade version of Wrex.

Or bypass the other two games and play the third alone. Why the hell is the default decision to kill Wrex anyway? I'm trying to perfect ME2 with femshep (for the first time) and I really didn't want to replay ME1 again just to get femshep+Wrex. That ME1 Darkhorse comic saved me a lot of work.

+Beth Kelch you shouldn't have seen this it spoils it tbh play you're own game make you're own decisions that's what makes ME franchise the best no offence but play the trilogy and import the games because you're actions matters or rather what you did in ME 1 matters in other ME games

Must have had 15 or so playthroughs and somehow this possible line of events has escaped me so far. Absolute master piece of storytelling. It's probably the single most memorable storyline and top notch acting in any video game. The game has lots of weaknesses, especially in the gameplay compartment, but the storytelling and the acting is absolutely stellar. A pity none this talent and brilliance made it over to ME:Andromeda.

What gets to me is the delivery of "I made a mistake!" because right after, is the quieter repetition. You can feel that Mordin himself has never said that, never admitted it. That he has never considered he was wrong. And now he's said it now he knows and he has to be the one to fix his wrongdoing to the krogan people

I was thinking the same thing. But if you notice throughout the game, Mordin respected Sheperd but they weren't exactly "friendly" IMO. Plus, the Salarians make a big deal out of plans, contingency plans, retro-contigency plans, etc. Moreover, Hackett mentions in ME3 that STG were giving "back-channel support" for the Crucible project. Sooooo, STG probably sent a team as a backup, just in case something went south.

I liked both endings because they are both written excellently. I can see value in both endings he wants to atone in this ending but now is not the time to be selfish since he is valuable and needed for the crucible project. This is basically sacrfice some for the greater good which plays back on what mordin did for the stg back when he was active he still has that mentality. The other ending he was done with it all and wanted to make a decision for himself and go out on his own terms

I understand the confusion, but I wasn't referring to war assets. I was referring to murdering Wrex and Eve, and dooming the Krogan race. I know it's just a video game, but I love these characters too much to hurt them.

You can only do this if both Wrex and Eve are dead. Only way he can reconsider is if Wreav is the sole krogan leader.

If you tell Wrex/Wreave, Mordin and EVE right from the get-go that the Salarians have sabotaged the cure for the genophage (itself a paragon choice) it becomes impossible from that point on to save Mordin. You have to conceal that fact up until this point, when you can use Paragon/Renegade to convince Mordin to not use the Genophage. There were a few Renegade choices here (Wrex and Eve dead), but he used Paragon to convince Mordin to ultimately let it go.

And even Wrex said he wants to rebuild the krogan empire. Although he wants to start with diplomacy unlike Wreav. The question is how many planets can the rest of the galaxy give to the krogan before drawing a line in the sand? Honestly, with Wrex the scenario reminds me of Chamberlain and appeasement
