That's actually pretty genius if his plan was to make ppl think he's such a fool that he doesn't realize when he's being insulted so how could he possibly be intelligent enough to lead a cult to commit multiple murders on his behalf. Which will cast doubt in the minds of the public on the narrative that he's responsible, and is what his friend's book intended to do.

He was an intelligent man. His IQ was above average and was described as being a cunning person. He had no higher education and even his basic education was limited, but he had read numerous books concerning various subjects: a popular myth about Charles Manson is that he was illiterate throughout his life because he’d been determined to be illiterate in 1951, but he did learn to read and write and the things he wrote varied from philosophical thoughts on the world around him to the “looney” Manson that people often think. A book he particularly enjoyed was Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. Books like this helped to shape the already cunning Manson. In his interviews - even as he sometimes played the part of the “looney” Manson - there’s an undeniable wicked and cunning intelligence behind him.

My English college professor was a teenager in 1960s La Quinta, California, and she recalls the time that she saw a van parked close to a house and possibly saw Manson leaving the van to pick a teenage girl up and brought her to his van. My professor was like 16 or 17 years old when she witnessed that.

It's so sad what happened to that poor woman, Sharon Tate. By all accounts she was a very nice person. Whenever any of them came up for parole, Sharon Tate's sister Debra would always be there at the parole hearing and talk about how she felt about any of them being released and would quelch it, to keep any of them from getting out.

Indeed.

@@thepanman8 Not really at all. People feel like that when a celebrity dies all the time. When Clint Eastwood dies, a lot of people will reflect that the younger Clint Eastwood they remember making movies got old and is no longer in the world. I just wanted to distinguish that I didn't approve of Manson, but I'm used to a world where Charles Manson is in prison and occasionally does a crazy interview. That world has moved on.
