This sounds like a warm memory of spending time with your friends during the summer, riding bikes, watching sunsets, blasting music, vandalising old buildings etc. except none of that happened and you are just rotting alone in your dark room because your parents don't allow you to go out so you just imagine those happy scenarios and how amazing they must feel. Its crazy to think that as an 00's American growing up on 90's grunge and 60's psychedelic, I never looked into this genre of music. I can listen to a song like the FooFighter's Everlong and the jump from that to this isn't that big. You could then go from this style to math rock pretty smoothly from there. Love learning about new music, it's a feeling you can't manufacture.

@@lostavenue4819 I have a whole playlist of nothing but shoegaze, a channel named Asian Shoegaze had a lot of albums but deleted everything sadly. Goldentony makes hours long shoegaze compilations and I find a lot from there. But melancholic Asian type shoegaze I recommend Kinoko Teikoku, Tokyo Shoegazer, My Dead Girlfriend, Lost In The Fog - Angst (very rare album most of their stuff is on band camp)

@@lostavenue4819 like the other guy said, My Dead Girlfriend is a must-listen if you love this album. It's not the exact same sort of style; MDG is definitely more traditionally shoegaze, but IMO they scratch that same itch of being simultaneously intense and nostalgic; a bit more melancholic/moody than MOTFD, but still a similar "feel." I recommend starting with the album, "underdrawing for three forms of unhappiness at the state of existence" (yes that is actually the name of the album, yes it's a mouthful, and yes it's kinda pretentious, but just give them a chance).

The first and second tracks feel so nostalgic, easily my favorites. Feels so distant yet so close - whenever I put my headphones on and listen to it, I feel at home. 2009 cloudy days, playing Super Paper Mario on my Wii. I suppose it's different for everyone and perhaps I'm being too sentimental about things, but it truly brings me back to a time where everything felt fresh and exciting. New smells, tastes, sounds, sights. Maybe I've grown too old and boring, but I can always rely on this album to take me back -- even if only for fleeting moments.

1:20am AEST time, 01/06/2023. I am a uni student struggling with various mental issues, balancing my deep deep passion for life and my studies with the sometimes deeper pain inflicted upon me by forces that are sometimes out of my control. I am listening to this album for the first time. Normally I listen to Skramz, hardcore, midwest kind of shit - I am a big fan of midori though, and a lot of shoegaze. This album is perfect. It is everything I want to make. I cannot even bring myself to feel hollow listening to this. It's sad at parts, but that nostalgic sadness that makes you look in third person where you are now - I'm sure my younger self would be beyond impressed, if not angry at me for drinking haha! This is simply a call to the world inspired by how this album makes me feel. If anyone reads this, I hope this album has touched you like it has me - and if not this album, another piece of music. I wish for a better future for us all, an end to the oppression experienced globally - especially in the global south - and want everyone to know that there is something worth fighting for; music, your loved ones, yourself, the international proletariat! Even if you disagree with the last bit, I hope that music is as important to you as it is to me.
