You get the same answer for Oxygen %, if you take away the % mass of Carbon from 100%. so 100-27.29=72.71! And it's easier! :)

@andylie nooo you just get the mass percent of Fe2SiO4 first, total like completely done, then you do the other one. you dont need to combine these two compounds. your question probably was to get the mass percent of Fe2SiO4 (just by itself) and then Mg2SiO4 (again just by itself) its two different answers in one question :)

@antiguanprincezz yeah you can. since the result is 27.28925 and so on, you need to round to the nearest hundreth so 27.289 goes up to 27.29%. always round up!

hey, i come acros this problem. i have 2 compounds. Fe2SiO4 and Mg2SiO4. I have to find the mass % of the Si(silicon) and O(oxygen) And sincei have to different compounds, how do i find the mass percent? do i add the mass of Si from both compounds then times 100, (samething with Oxygen)? thanks for your explanation.

top is just 12.01 then add the mass of Carbon and mass of oxygen on bottom (12.01+32=44.01) then divide 12.01/44.01 = .2729 then X100 = 27.29%

You should really walk through the calculations instead of just setting up the formula then saying this is the answer. You know, step-by-step as you would when showing your work. It doesn't really SHOW how you came up with that answer, though I do understand what you've done, it wasn't very clear. :(
