Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the country. Lori Lightfoot has turned the city into the wild west and has done nothing. Facebook is also a platform for the mentally unstable and should be held liable or shut down. Chicago's police department is also half what it used to be due to democratic policy. I see alot of people that share this feeling. Genuine question, what can the average person to other than "sending thoughts a prayers" to mitigate a shooting? Pass more laws? Despite Chicago having strict gun laws, it always has some of the highest homicides and shootings in the country. Laws only work when people respect and follow them. It seems no one wants to talk honestly about mental health or societal issues that lead to this. Prior to the 1990s in America mass shootings were extremely rare and school shootings were almost non existent. Blaming guns is on this is like blaming the pencil for failing the test.

From what I understand, the suspect's school tried to get him help when he started showing signs of mental distress in middle school, but his parents pulled him out of school and homeschooled him. It is similar to the Oxford shooter case in Michigan, where the student's parents were made aware of and encouraged to get the student mental help, but they declined moments before he went on his shooting rampage. In the Oxford case, the parents are being tried for contributing to the school shooting because they neglected to care for their son's mental illness and also gave him access to a gun.
