Reminds me of an episode of MythBusters , they tested the theory how much power is used during startup as to if you should turn them off if you only leave the room for a short time. We were told about 15 minutes was the point as to leave them on or not. But it turns out can't remember the exact figure but it was more like 5 seconds or something. So have no fear turn them off at will.
