Mass Appeal

Күн бұрын

For this installment of Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal presents Extra P, aka Large Professor. We took the legendary Queens producer to Human Head Records in Brooklyn, where he picked three random records to begin a game of Rhythm Roulette. He ended up grabbing an Instant Funk record, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes’ Black and Blue album, and Shirley Scott’s On A Clear Day. From there, Extra P began to go through the records and create some new heat from what he picked.
Shout out to Tragedy Khadafi for the cameo.

I've never seen anyone do it like that. Most producers say "I like to add the drums to the melodies so they compliment the melodies." But this workflow give you that classic BOOM BAP Hip-Hop sound no matter what. You make the samples work around the beats. Dope insight.

Nahhh.... various people have stated in interviews that preme doesn't like people watching him in the studio. There was one interview with statik selektah and he was saying how preme wouldn't let anyone but the rappers in because he doesn't want people seeing his production techniques.I think anyone who has their own unique style wants to keep it a secret so all the basement producers don't ruin it. Same reason you can't find any videos of dilla making beats.
@tristannagan8690
@tristannagan8690 8 жыл бұрын
+Leakbros but you can see a little of preemo producing in the Classic video... and you can find a few videos of him doing some cuts on records... His style is amazing but it's not exactly that much of a secret... The only thing you cannot replicate from Premier is his genius and his timing when it comes to laying down drum patterns... but you can make a replica of a preemo track... it's more the vision that you can't really replicate

I always revisit this episode. It’s definitely in my top 3, and probably my personal favorite. I love hearing the progress of the beat. He’s very intentional in his process. And the fact that he was so humble while talking about the beat at the end when it came out a fuckin BANGER...yo, salute to a legend still doing it for the love of the music and culture!

I just listened to like 20 of these from David Banner to Jazzy Jef to Static to 9th Wonder, even Phony PPl and I gotta say I think Large might have gotten everybody. He stayed the truest to the theme. No product team, no keys and singers, and all the music, EVERYTHING was made of samples and it was FIE. My hats off to you mane, D.O.P.E!!!
