Abandoned siding restoration: Mass Coastal ballast train - Gallo, Sagamore, MA 3/14/2024

In this video we see one of the first ballast trains to go to the Gallo Siding in Sagamore, MA. The train is dumping stone as part of the restoration to service so it can be used as a freight siding. Last used regularly for freight around 2011 and briefly again for MOW trains in 2013 the track will finally be put back to use. This is the same location where an "abandoned" gondola sat inside the building for about a decade (video: • Abandoned railcar move... ). This video shows the second ballast train to Gallo traveling through Wareham and Bourne before dumping stone on the siding. This project is thanks to the MassDOT Industrial Rail Access Program (IRAP) that grants money to railroads and businesses for rail development. IRAP helps reduce truck trips and pollution by using environmentally friendly rail transportation.

Good to see a small shortline making the necessary upgrades to their rails, unlike the E&SL in Michigan that Jason Asselin posts video of. Seems like they have major track issues at least twice a month. If you haven't seen it, one of his latest videos shows some fully loaded center beam flatcars rocking to the point of almost tipping. I do enjoy seeing these videos of robust New England rails!

I have been trying to model in O scale for years now the Mass Coastal, Bay Colony but none of the major manufacturers have come through. Just have to rail fan and dream. nice job south coast rail

Nice video, great to see another gallo siding being reused. When I started on the rr there was and still is a gallo siding, but gallo is not the business but wine and liquer do flow out of there not sure about wine coming in still? Nice that will be tamped and leveled with drainage. Love to see the end product. The building did eat the train. LOL
