The parade is led by Drum Major Ian Esson and the bands were Ballater & District Pipe Band, Towie Pipe Band, Ellon & District RBL Pipe Band, Kintore Pipe Band and Dalhousie Pipe Band from Switzerland. (2 others to be confirmed) Drum Majors included Bert Summers, Bill Barclay, Derek Dean, Roland Stewart, Robert Brownfield, Fiona Glennie...

My grandfather told me that his home town, Tilburg in the Netherlands, was liberated by the Scottish. The first thing they heard in November 1944 was a bagpipes in the far distance a very soft humming sound that came nearer. He told me that everybody went outside to see where the sound was coming from. There the Scottish arrived to officially liberate the city. My grandfather always held very dear memories to the Scots who liberated him, his family, his community, the city where I live. We're still very grateful and associate the bagpipes with liberation and freedom.

@Talorc MacAllan , here is something that might give you a laugh. My daughter was doing research on our ancestors and came across the song, " MY BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN." Now if this song was about Prince Charles Edward Stewart, why would it say, " My Bonnie lies over the ocean." He was exiled in Italy... NOW HERE IS THE FUNNY PART... My daughter suspects that the song is about one of our ancestors... One who was here in Kentucky by 1750', (Walter Stewart) and others came in the 1780's or the 1790's.I'm not so sure about this meaning of the song. Is it possible that they had "code songs"? Then again there's the ship captain named Cameron that supposedly snuck out Prince Charles Edward Stewarts son as a baby claiming the baby as his. IF you have any information on this it would be really interesting to find out the truth on the song. And to see if my daughter was right. She was before, in grade school, she said that Prince William and Prince Harry was cousins. Diana is a direct descendant of Mary Queen of Scots.

I have just read this my late Dad was one of the pipers who liberated Tilburg he was Pipe Sgt Harry Forbes of the Highland Light Infantry (HLI ) he made many friends there and returned every year to play his pipes in the annual parade He loved the Dutch people and they loved him. I have visited Tilburg on a number of occasions and was in fact on a motorcycle tour of Scotland and watched this display on the day it happened. Great story thanks . Stuart Forbes

@s H Scotland is one of the most highly patriotic and nationalistic countries I know of, the fact you have brought Sinn Fein into this shows you have underlying grievances you'r not telling us. The SNP's main goal is to restore Scottish sovereignty and promote Scottish culture, they have reorganised the Scottish education system so children are taught proper Scots history and not rubbish like the tudors, normans, King Arthur, etc which is taught elsewhere in the UK. Everywhere you go now there is Gaelic on road signs, on police, fire and ambulance vehicles - this is the SNP pushing this. No one denied any made up services so made up spear throwers and sandal wearing bombers can get them first, you're just making stuff up to push your deluded agenda.

She said that she doesn't like the sound and I play this video for her and I get goose bumps every time and the tears just run down my old man's cheeks. I walked the West Highland Way and the Great Glen Way in Winter (250km), slept in my tent. It was such an intense experience. All the people i met on my way were so nice, the nature is just stunning. Since this experience, i feel connected to this beautiful country.

The leader of the march looks so heroic! The proud way he carries himself. Fierce and ready to lead his troupe to battle. I get goose bumps watching this.

He's a band leader not a warrior. He square gaits the whole way, see how he's out of sync with the other leaders? You clearly never served in the military love, infantry are the warriors, we know how to march, he's just a musician in fancy dress.

@@darkjudge8786 I was thinking the same thing watching this. The one guy that was completely out of step / off time,.. was the one in the front,.. "leading" them all. The man behind him was on spot.

English born but have loved the pipes for many years. When I was in the army is Australia i was in a Scottish battalion on morning on bivouac just before dawn we were in our fox holes standing to when a lone piper started playing I'm glad he was on our side because it was the most eerie, blood curling sound would have terrorized the enemy for sure !!

I’ve been told that the marshaling thrum and best of the drums matches the typical cadences of the adult human heart and can actually influence the heart to match the same time. Little wonder then that the peoples and Dems, in unison, Scots and sassenachs, in much the same way.

I salute to all participants. ❤ I like this music very much. In this circumstances I would like to say that I am bag-pipe player who learnt music without NOTATIONS. I also want to say that I would like to visit SCOTT LAND only for bag-pipe music. But I know this hope will never be success in this my life. Thanks🙏

Not Scottish but grew up going to many parades and and seeing these Scottish bands, the drums and bagpipes always brought a sense of joy to my heart. This is a very beautiful culture and something to be extremely proud of.
