In the early 1960s, Jean Kerr wrote that she wished people would quit stop writing and producing plays that made members of the audience want to go home and end it all. Jean Kerr was a writer and the wife of Walter Kerr, theater critic of The New York Times. I imagine that they saw a lot of complete dross.🇺🇸

@amberhall993710 күн бұрын
Hello, Neil. This story is funny. I'm glad someone rescued you. You should tell us how you went about trying to learn to swim. I am the opposite of you. I truly went out of my way not to learn to swim. I don't like wearing swim suits. I don't like being in water. I do think I could learn though. If I had a swimming pool, I believe if I spent enough time in the shallow end, I would master swimming. Once I conquered that, I would probably swim just for excersize before I showered. That way, I would not ruin my hair do unnecessarily, nor would I waste the opportunity to excersize. I might even become the sort of person who actually liked swimming for excersize. I don't think I would ever do it in a social setting, any more than I would want to go walking with crowds of people. In high school and college, I was often referred to as "the only white person in Alabama who doesn't know how to swim." There are lots of swamps and ponds and rivers around here. I don't get that nervous most of the time, because I don't feel the slightest temptation to get in any of them. I don't live that far from the beach, and I avoid it unless somebody I really like wants to go. Personally, I don't like being there unless I am in a boat. When I take my students to see the Joseph statue, I do get somewhat nervous when I jump over the pool that surrounds it to get next to the statue. I wouldn't want to come up short and land in the pool instead of on the pedestal. The pool is not deep, though. I think the possibility of not landing right makes me more nervous than the actual water. I might go to London one day, if y'all can ever get somebody better than Khan to be the mayor. If I learn to swim, I would teach you how, if you want. I'm sure you can get it. Much love, from Amber in Alabama.

Making a successful musical is not as easy as some might imagine. For every Hamilton or Wicked or Phantom there are lots of shows which are spectacular fails. I remember listening to a radio series called Fabulous flops, which talked about infamous musicals that had flopped spectacularly. It was more entertaining than the actual shows themselves. Fascinating stuff and a true bonfire of the vanities, where creative egos just lose control of reality. This blaming Brexit is a case in point. My old Drama tutor always said that a strong script can carry a weak cast but a strong cast cannot carry a weak script. Sounds like “Opening Night” is a case in point.

I say "my own very selfish reasons" because if you hadn't been saved, we might not have you here now, being our chum and entertaining us with all your news and stories. Nevertheless! Appreciate you sharing, regarding your near drowning experience. JUST next time, please stay in the shallow end of any pool, just to be safe. "Okay?" As for that musical 🎶🎶 play that 'failed' I'd suggest the fault lies entirely with the creator and songwriter, and with no one else! He may have lost a show after opening night, but 'others' lost their jobs and their investment monies in the production. Which had promised so much. "Thank you" Neil xx 👔 ⭐👋
