That MF200 chopper was being demoed at the 1975 grassland demonstration event... it would go about 40 yards before the header auger wrapped with grass, then they would spend half an hour unwrapping it in full view of the public, meanwhile JD had a self propelled that you had to run to keep up with on an adjacent plot, good ole MF .

First tractor I drove was my fathers MF575, it had 4 wheel drive and a aftermarket turbo , it apparently was to slow and lazy without. Those doors could cut fingers tho if not careful haha

Wasn't there a smaller model then the 550. I seem to remember the smallest of the 500 series had exactly the same drum brakes as my MF135 but being a heavier tractor, some drivers complained it was a bit hair raising trying to stop when towing a full trailer.

The MF 550 was the smallest of the MF 500 series tractors. It had, as you say, drum brakes as per the MF 135/148 tractors, and was in fact, a successor to the latter model, with the family styling common to all of the MF 500 series. You are correct in regard to the performance (or more accurately, the none performance thereof !), of the drum brakes on a heavier tractor, the new Monocoque cab being responsible for the majority of the increased weight. I knew someone who had an MF 550, and when going down hill, would change down thru' the gears in good time, rather than try to rely on the wholly inadequate stopping power of these brakes, when towing a fully laden trailer load of hay bales, for example.

Did the farmer do anything back in the day. Too reliant upon the farm labourers. And they complain about the cost of production 😂. Had 575 years ago brilliant machine,

9:10 they daren't show you the spreader actually working because those fucking Massey 19 spreader's bed chains used to snap like carrots. God awful things, we had two😡 (That's the first and probably the last time I ever use th F word in a KZfaq comment)
