Despite the Dutchman not being first choice, I still think the club are enthused by Slot. I can’t wait to see him in the Anfield dugout myself. He did brilliantly with AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, two unfancied clubs without the spending power of PSV and Ajax, both of whom Slot toppled.

I'm glad you've followed up on this. I remember telling you at the time that Amorim wasn't greedy, he's not just a brilliant coach, he's a wonderful human being. Money has never been or ever will be his motivator. My guess and it only is a guess is the compo between Liverpool and Sporting was not agreed, both sides digging in and the deal collapsed. Amorim took the plane to London AFTER hearing the news but BEFORE it was announced officially. Shame for LFC as he would have been a superb appointment but hopefully he'll stay another season here at Sporting. Final point, let's not forget Sporting paid €12m in compo to get Amorim in the first place. It's now becoming more and more part of the game. Villa paid compo to get Unai Emery and it's turning out to be the best investment the club have made since signing Super John McGinn for £2m. For me, the Coach/Manager is the most important person at a club and to get the best it's worth paying for. UTV

Fsg may not be able to compete with Pep and Man City - They want to stabilise revenue and get champions league. If FSG have the numbers which says Arne Slot is a better fit than Ruben Amorim - Then it’s fine. FSG did a lot of Lowballing - but they also got Andy Robertson from Relegated Hull city and he turned out to be a world beater. The only problem is that Pep Guardiola is a generational coach. No one else like him. Klopp tried the best to push him as hard as possible. Now we do need fresh people trying. The points deduction for Everton & Forest do mean that Liverpool have to try within their means to win. They can’t do everything which isn’t financially feasible- They are making Liverpools value in world football increase. Let’s see what they try next.

Either way you slice it, it seems that his agent and Pedro the parrot have, between them, cost Amorim the job and Liverpool of getting an excellent manager. Liverpool don't play games in public.

This reminds me of the excuse FSG had for not signing Konoplyanka in 2014 because the Dnipro president suddenly changed his mind and wanted more money. Why does this always happen to FSG?

I'm starting to think that Klopp was pushed out after a blow up about Bellingham. FSG seems to have all their ducks in line which I find strange considering Klopp had signed a new contract. Something really smells off to me with the whole situation.. Cheers for the update.. appreciated.

I believe this, too. Not just the Bellingham no-go. The farcical way they pretended to try to sign Lavia and Caicedo. Lying about Tchouameni. Refusing to sign a centre-back and midfielder during the defensive and midfield crisis. It seems as if they were putting more responsibility on Klopp. The list goes on.

I thought it was Mbappe, who supported Liverpool as a kid and really wanted to play for Klopp. But FSG weren’t prepared to pay his high salary.

If this is true, this reflects poorly on the Sporting president, but also very poorly on LFC. Is LFC seriously willing to let their (and our) preferred manager get away over a matter of 10 million euros? And risk regretting it match after match, year after year? I certainly hope not.

It doesn't reflect poorly on Liverpool. They know exactly what they are doing, Slot would have always been in the running and a back up plan just in case the deal wouldn't work out. They won't be held to ransom

@ASBsweet of course Slot was the backup plan. But what if Amorim is leagues better. I hope not, but he may be. You must go get your number one priority. Even if it costs you 10 million. Jeez, some of these players are costing 100-150 million. Darwin cost 80.

That is very interesting and I definitely believe it too be true. It makes think me about things like what came out about the reasons for getting slot and one of the biggest reasons was his style of football was similar too klopps not the same but similar and because of this it wouldn't cause much disruption to the current squad and the academy players who all are training with this style. It didn't make sense when i was hearing this because in my opinion Alonso and amorim where the top 2 choices and they play very differently to klopp. So this is our 3rd best target it makes me a bit uneasy if im honest and i really did want to move to a completely different style of play

you do wonder if liverpool tried to blame Amorim's camp for irritating the Sporting chairman and suggest they may have to take less money from Liverpool so maybe both bits are true. Sporting want too much money and the club try to say to Amorim "if you still want the job you're going to have eat this one" and they haven't shifted and its all fallen down like a house of cards from there

Wrong, Fekir sabotaged his own move and the club owner witnessed it and said he was ashamed of his player. He was literally about to sign the contract and came in with his entourage and demanded new terms and Liverpool said thanks for your time but see you later.

Well it explains a lot, still think Amorim was a gamble. In the same way Slot is. Just want to get behind the new manager or head coach now and see what happens as you said in your earlier video. Been a lot of what if transfers over the years that haven't happened. Just hope FSG and Edwards took the right gamble with Slot only time will tell. Seems to have a personality just needs a good run to start the season to reassure the fan base following a successful transfer window Let the transfer speculation begin from Monday. If Amorim was the guy we really wanted, why wouldn't we just pay the extra? 20 million for a decent manager is nothing compared to player prices. But as you say, Arne is the new gaffer and we'd best get behind him. I'm optimistic about him. Great update Dunk. Have a good weekend.

Let's wait and see how arne slot does we can't judge him with klopp it was a chance with klopp we never knew what would happen under klopp. Let's not forget klopp has made some poor signings and we have played really poor at times but klopps success out weighs this . Look if slot is no good Edward's will sack him and if Edwards is chap FSG will sack him they won't let Liverpool go in decline it will cost the owners to much of a loss in moneys so let's just see YNWA.

If you want someone player or manager just pls go get them!! Instead of them ending up against us somewhere else. Let's look at how things worked out in the "other" option. Feyenoord, Arne Slot and Liverpool were able to find a reasonable solution for all parties involved ... is Amorim better than Arne ? ... possible ... But I am really happy with Arne Slot ! Due to his personality, I think he is a better option.

Mate have a look at 'men in Blazers' podcast with John Oliver, the man is spot on in a lot of what he says, he has nailed on in what he said about what he says what Jürgen done. I remind you I think I need to remind you about what I said that Slot could be a chance if he does well fantastic but he could also be a seat warmer, so LFC are either he will be fantastic or he could after 18months be gone for someone else.

So in other words Sporting (President) fxcked us getting Amorim 🥲 Amorim would have been amazing. There was excuses about the whole formation setup and the types of players we have that are 'not suited' to Amorim's style. I hope Amorim is someone we consider in the future
