I am very fortunate to know serial entrepreneur and master inventor Jay Walker and to have spent time in his magnificent library of the history of human imagination. As you will see in the video, this collection is extraordinarily broad and yet very precise-dinosaurs, space memorabilia, inventions, early Bibles, and original bill of rights, and so much more. As I say in my video, there are 2 kinds of people in the world. Collectors. And those who think collectors are insane. I am a collector. I hope that many viewers of this video also collectors and enjoy seeing what Jay Walker has collected. The library grows weekly as Jay spends a good portion of his time searching the world for new examples of human imagination as he defines it. He is generous and has students and historians and others visit the library on a regular basis, although it is connected to his home in Connecticut. Experts would say that it is one of the greatest private libraries in the world.

Wait...this guy has an original Codex?!?! Holy. I bought a reprint a few years ago. Such an amazing piece of imagination put onto paper. I too am a collector. My family were hoarders, but they hoarded cool stuff. Going through our old plantation home in Mississippi before selling it, we found unbelievable levels of cool stuff. Tried to keep the coolest items, but now I want ALL of it back! Must keep The Precious. Hehe. Alas, I just don't have the places to put it, so they had to go. Sad This is the library in my head. You keep great company, David. 😍

I appreciate that he collects interesting things. I worked in numismatics and collectables for a couple of years, and while I love people with passion, most collections are pretty dull. If you're in the industry you rarely see eccentric collections and frequently see "standard" collections of coins, stamps, baseball cards, blablabla...

We collect so to hold the things in our own hands, so to examine the things closely from every angle in every value of light, to feel the weight of it, and to get a sense of every aspect of the thing and who created it, why they created it, when they created it and what everyday life was like at that time. We think about the uses of the things or no use at all. Smile. Bigger smile. Such variety in life.

What a stunning and unique collection. As you mention around 13:09, I agree collecting interesting items is more of a personality trait that develops early, often long before the disposable millions exist to afford such splendid items like in the video. Coming from another collector since below the age of 10, this was a fascinating and wonderful video to watch and truly inspiring... I too spend a good portion of my free time looking for the next interesting item for my dedicated barn- uh, room, always learning new things and meeting new people on the way.
