Ron and I go out for the biggest road bike / gravel bike ride of my life. Riding well over 100 miles and more then 12K ft of elevation. I decided on taking my Titanium Stinner Gravel bike with 700c wheels and 42mm tires out for this epic cycling adventure. We road to the Gifford national forest, did a gravel loop in the forest and road all the way back home. Getting back well after dark. Buckle up this is a proper cycling advenure!

Yo player, these were some serious Tour De France numbers on this ride. Your statement on "knowing the ride" rings oh so true. Thank you for the excellent content. I so badly want a Tidbit on Oral hygiene during the ride, that has to be my favorite thing seeing you brush your teeth while spinning it out. Thank you always Dustin. Massive ride Dustin, seeing Ron in shorts and short sleeved top with you both riding in sunshine made me really jealous-it was -4c here this morning with heavy frost and black ice-not a riding day….. I did my longest ride for over 6 months yesterday-a whole 52.7 miles……which is 6 months since I broke my hip, and 6 weeks since I had a heart ablation-that’s my excuse anyway!

The Pacific Northwest looks to be a much cooler place to live and ride compared to the Mid-Asmoothtlantic. I did 185 miles on smooth gravel in one day last year on the GAP Trail. I was actually not that hard as it was only 2000 ft of climbing; just keep cruising at a steady pace. The next day I had another 115 miles to go back; that was much more of a struggle.

Not sure if you go through this aspect, but when you’re doing a bigish ride you’ve done before and use markers on the road as “Oh, I’m here. I’m almost done” it’s always feels longer for me for some reason. Like, you momentarily forget a stretch of road you still gotta do.

There may be different ways at different times. After some big rides, I gladly took a rest on the next day as well. However, once I rode about 220 km (over a highland region) to join a group of riders on their adventure trip (catch up with them). Next three days we rode on, about 100 km stages each day, and it worked surprisingly well for me. Probably the good effect of "recovery ride(s)" you have mentioned . :)
