Massive Oak Stump Removal with Kubota Mini Excavator!

We recently bought a Kubota KX018-4 mini ex to help with a lot of projects around the property. For a first test we used it to remove a massive oak tree stump that was in the way of a future drainage project. The Kubota is small, but mighty!

Awesome. We recently bought a KX71-3 and haven't tested it on a big stump yet. But I have several I need to get out!

It’s a good time, for sure! You should have a much easier time with a KX71 than I did with the lighter weight machine. Enjoy!

Hello I frost pick or root pick work awesome on smaller excavator or backhoes .Just a cheap tip.

It probably would have been better to scoop the water out before backfilling the hole. I love running mini exes. 😃

Indeed it would have, and we did as much as we could. With the soil and conditions that day, it was seeping in almost as fast as we were scooping it out. Hence the need for the drainage system!

Yes, it definitely takes some patience and a root pick would have made it quite a bit quicker. That Mini-Ex was $28k when we bought it last year, but inflation likely has bumped that up by now.

What's the difference between the KX018 and the U17 ?

The biggest difference I remember from comparing them before purchase is U17 is more compact, specifically the counterweight on the U17 didn’t extend beyond the tracks.

Right about 4 hours over a couple of evenings. Would have been much quicker with a larger machine, but hey, use what you have!

No, we have enough projects for it lined up that it made more sense to purchase one.

The difference is he owns it. No matter how small much better owning what you can afford to work with Vs renting 375 a day plus signing a clause that you have to pay for any damage to the rental machine, renting is useless. Buy what you can afford and own your own equipment is the only way to go.
