I could totally see a modder putting in a tile pack based on the constructions primative technology has made, would love to see the tools such as the cord/pump drill, stone axe/hatchet, the various different kinds of mud furnances and kilns he's made, and other things such as charcoal, woodash and lime in order to make other things. If anyone decides to do this, i would houner him by making it accessible via a book which should be named after and have the sprite look just like the primitive technology book he wrote

Would be cool if there is levels of underground. Like 1st level is basements and parking garages, then The level below that is sewers and maintenance tunnels. Then if people are mad lads at modding, add a third level for metro’s and caves.

They've hinted at some sewers running under Louisville, but it wasn't confirmed, just something they'd like to do with the system. So, it's on their radar!

Fun fact to do with the clay building option in the coming update. Kentucky’s main mineral export is limestone and CLAY. So it won’t be immersion breaking if they add a clay quarry on the map for quick access to a lot of it, the equivalent of raiding a warehouse for cement.

Hopefully the monthly recaps are a good sign that they are in the very late stages of completing this update and perhaps maybe we could see a January - March release date.

monthly recaps means they are still prototyping stuff i wont expect anything earlier than 2025 , there are so many new things here that are being made separately and needs to be all fused together , and merging it is probably as hard as making it ,

You gotta love Indie Stone for taking a look at their QoL ModLists and thinking... "hmr, how do we make all this happen in vanilla?" just mad respect for this dev blog post. This is huge and long awaited. A big win for Hydrocraft too and the other modders that are graciously taken in to the fold to help make this game into the game of all games

Uhmm... the devs suck ass? They send out 1 or 2 minor updates a year, if even that. They take forever to send out updates and whenever we complain, nothing changes.

@TheRunner-fb9pc the devs don't really listen to their community at all, they increase their project load so much that meaningful updates seem to take forever. That being said, I've been playing this game for a decade and the devs have worked on it the entire time. The fact that they haven't just let it die over the time since it's release is impressive. I do wish that more of their update road maps were built around community feedback but even if they've just spent the entire time building the game that THEY want to build, I'm still glad they've been building on it this long in general. They've also been really supportive and open to modders for quite a while which isn't always the case with other devs so while they aren't the quickest or most crowd-pleasing, I certainly wouldn't simplify it by saying they just suck

@@TheRunner-fb9pcThey are literally a small company without enough money for some massive things all the time and plus, they are working on new engines a big new map with updates on it. It’s so worth it, plus other games die because of too many useless updates… Thats why pz has mods, in case u genuinely need or want to try something else in the meantime that others wouldnt really like. Devs here are great and they tend to listen to the community as much as they could but listening to the community most times leads to chaos so…

I just wanted two things from Zomboid: -NPC with individual characteristics, quirks, quests -All buildings are "player-made" (so zombies do not pick and choose which buildings to circle around, and which to attack and destroy)

The word you're looking for is "destructible".

I wish that all buildings were destructible, but whether zombies choose to destroy them should be more context sensitive. This could be added by making zombies choose the path of least resistance: for instance, zombies will always attempt to go through windows and doors. If there's such a huge crowd that they can't all attack the entrances, they'll scratch at the walls. Some walls (masonry) should be entirely indestructible - I don't care how hard you scratch, concrete is harder than fingernails. They also shouldn't actively attack structures unless they can sense the player or have very recently, and should be a bit more prone to walking around houses rather than bashing down windows.

Omg the cleaning update is a literal dream 🤩 it’s kind of weird how in a zombie infested world you can still get this animal crossing type vibe with making your dream home and cleaning it all perfectly, excellent work.

I tend to not read a lot about games I currently play because it's a lot of filler and I just don't have that much time... so I've been following you solely for the B42 news.. gotta say, the stuff they're cooking is really really up my alley and would already clean like 30% of the mods I use just with the stuff they've announced.

11:49 I really think HUGE missed opportunity is to have the game be detailed enough to make a day 1 playthrough interesting and unique. "You are the only one that foresaw the zombie apocalpyse... What do you do??" It would be so fucking cool.

Yeah this was always kind of an immersion breaker. It's like all the people suddenly just poofed out of existence. There was actually a canceled web comic series like this on YT many years back but I can't remember the name. Can't remember if it was German exclusive either.

Great video and a great dev update too, it's really nice to see they're focusing on both early and late apocalypse additions! Given what they've already shown us I can't wait to see what else they have planned for the new basement feature, it might be a bit ambitious but I'm hoping they will go as far as adding full on tunnel or sewer systems, caves, old mines and mine shafts, maybe subway stations and all sorts! One of my biggest questions in that regard is will we, as players, be able to dig holes and tunnels or expand basements ourselves with the right tools? That could even double as a means to acquiring certain resources to make clay and stone products too, dig up a bunch of dirt for stones and clay then fill the hole back in with dirt or something else (random junk / rubbish holes like landfills, zombie / player / animal traps, etc). So much excitement!

Half the fun of getting a new PZ update post is knowing I have a MrAtomicDuck video to look forward too. Basements are going to be really cool to explore but you wouldn't catch me using one as a base, thats a death trap right there. For the endgame I'm looking forward to the NPC's because building a community to house them sounds like an objective to do in the endgame once you are sucure. But once you have a comminty all safe and built it will just be the same issue so I'd like the zombie AI to be worked on and have horde migrations that could attack your base or settlements, something better than the helicopter event. I want to have my defenses challenged and not feel completely safe because ultimately this is the story of how you died.

I am looking forward to more lategame content but i'm not sure that it will fix the problem of having nothing to work for. You will still not be challenged by anyting new. Even if you will be able to do more stuff at the base, what for? I would love to see some heavy encounters you would have to prepare for using the new tech (especially new engineering stuff would be great). Or mayber some new sort of dungeon like areas around the map. I general just something you would have to gear up and be experienced in some (new) skills to be able to achive it :) Still hyped for anything new and thanks for the great vids :)

I really like the idea of a dungon in pz. Somthing to work for and explore. But the question is, how would the team implement them? The classical dungon doesnt fit the setting, perhaps systems of bunkers or mines or sewige? Or something simmilare to the prison or millitary base. But the question is, how does one make it challenging? The current approge if just throwing mor zombies at you doesnt see very exiting. But things like boss battles dont fit the game that much. Perhaps things like puzzles or traps. (Sorry if i made any mistakes)

This is an approach I really enjoyed in CDDA before it shifted over to a looting focus. There's something deeply satisfying about starting with rocks and building up.

profesion evolution sounds great. giving player 2 option after surviving for sometime for each profession will make the mid-endgame more interesting. say Axeman > Chainsawman (tech) or PrimitiveAxeman (adaptive)

Changing the emergent stories to actually match the lore presented in game is nice to see. The world as presented in the broadcasts is somewhere between the Stand by Stephen King and Dawn of the Dead. You get infected, you show symptoms for several hours, you become delerious/die/reanimate. The world as presented in the emergent stories is more like David Moody's _Autumn_ series, as at last some portion of the population died mid-activity, whether that activity is work, carousing, or having a party with your buds to celebrate a baseball win. There are too many zombies in workplaces, schools, and non-home locations for the illness to give you as much time to experience symptoms as the broadcasts say the Knox Infection gives a victim. TBH, I like the emergent storytelling as presented, and would be happier with slight changes to the broadcast lore. If the Knox Infection has an almost asymptomatic early phase of several days, at least some of which is infectious, followed by very sudden onset of symptoms leading to reanimation with on person's symptoms causing all the nearby infected to also become symptomatic, you would have something very similar to the events as described. Some groups who were already infected would all convert at once, leading to "time capsule" infestations in workplaces and public places. You would also have some folks who were partly immune or unexposed surviving the sudden zombie uprising, producing lots of refugees and looting as well as zombie-survivor encounters. It would be complex to present, however. I could see news reports near the cut-off finally beginning to share correct information about how infected individuals can "trigger" one another's deaths. It would make for an even more terrifying zomboid story.

In single player and multiplayer, I'd love to see the game takeover for a player to force them to bite and share the infection with others they may be playing with. Or at least that hygiene plays a role, with medics needing to deep-clean to avoid spreading the infection from the zombie grime and zombie blood they might be covered in. Basically make it a big trust exercise, where you can't trust anyone you don't know. Or at least doing that on a sort of PvP server.

Can't believe I'm about 300 hours into just vanilla zomboid and still haven't even gone to Louiville, the anticipated build 42 and incredible mod opportunities makes this game feel endless

Something super important to add to the world building would be randomized furniture stacking like someone tried to barricade the store by moving all the selves to the entrance blocking it or in a house the couch should be up against the door randomly with the kitchen table and chairs pushed to the front door etc

Would make moving furniture a more prominent feature. The devs should probably clean up the movement rules around windows and furniture before adding that though. How all the animation updates have never given players or zombies the ability to climb over waist-high couches, or crawl under dinner tables, is beyond me.

Me and a friend have a modded server we play on and we've survived about 2 months, built a fort with a garage, we each have our own huts and buildings dedicated to certain skills, say a garage for mechanics, and i am currently building an emergency bunker with mods but i was grounded earlier this week for poor behavior at school, so our characters have been sitting idly since. This video has me so fucking excited for build 42.

One way I can see end game being interesting is if they have player 'creativity' levels and exp gain skyrocket the longer they live to a point. For instance a survivor who started surviving a apocalypse may not break out of their societal lifestyles and thinking early on, hence slower adaptation speeds hence slower experience gains and 'creativity' levels for survival. But a survivor who has everything set up to survive long term will see better increase effectiveness of creativity and planning, will have a different mindset in life to pursue, and set new goals to meet. In a way it's like Sims 1 to 4, where each iteration of the game adds mechanics or concepts that increases complexity to the game, like say 'dreams' and 'aspirations' and such, your character may get one or can unlock one after surviving for a period which boosts their stats and mood when they work on it... Maybe your 'chef' character one day feels like he wants to be an artist, gains moodlet bonuses and such by doing a desired activity. This is because once a character is essentially masters at the basic stuff, they'll need new goals to work on to master.

Professions changing over time makes sense, for instance humanity can always survive and evolve, so you'll see 'survivors', 'bandits', and other types of professions being created to adapt to the new world. Maybe even 'faction' oriented professions can be created with a PVP setting? "Settler" profession for a faction, versus "Raiders" profession.

I think for me the big issue with the end game wasn't missing things to do but rather reasons to do them. Eventually you become too efficient at dealing with the threats present in the game. I'm hoping with this big patch- and more specifically the big NPC updates coming after result in modders being able to create newer, far more dangerous threats and varying mods that add a victory state so your character can actually have a defined ending if you want them to.

Basically, 'foxhole' game but with zombies? What would be interesting is if we can have lived-in settlements that are safe zones for servers that are very very old, but separate from the world map region, like a instance. Players can essentially create new characters and start from this settlement and go out to the world to explore and loot, while engaging in PVP with players with other factions, this late in the game. Wars can be a thing too, between factions. Since we have a large section of water to the north east of the whole map, maybe survivors and npc can live on a 'oil rig' sort of construction in the ocean? Or maybe even a large ship that is being used as a base.

Wild that they've just taken the system from the Real Metalworking mod and made it base-game. Not sure how to feel about that.

I'm waiting for this update to play again but I also wish they would do smaller updates they plan and work on so many things at once that it takes ages for updates to come out but on the bright side everything looks good

Nope, no ETA just yet. I wanna stress this isn't abnormal for the dev team behind PZ. They've always taken their time with updates, but they always come feature packed. They don't usually like to announce an ETA until it's a month or so before release to prevent any pushbacks or delays.

They should make NPCs to save and add to your compound. They can be given jobs like in Fallout.

NPCs have been in and out of the works for like a decade at this point, since the game entered early access. I used to follow the dev blog pretty closely. IIRC the NPC features were such a tough nut to crack that they gradually got deprioritized in favor of features the devs could make progress on (which, keep in mind, was going on while the game was still a 2D sprite-based affair). At this point I think the dev philosophy is to focus on multiplayer for survivor-survivor interaction.

I wonder how they will handle metals, I doubt they'll add mining into the game but if we truly can get to a medivial level of technology via wilderness alone then we definitely need some way of gathering iron.

I remember that there was some guy from the military who made an ai geared up in jugggernaut gear in zomboid that hunt down players around the map. It was somewhere in reddit I think.

An in-depth crafting is a good mid-game progression, but imo to truly fix the problem is to give a sense of conclusion to the game. For example, in a never-ending game like Minecraft; it has a so called "End Biome" that take so much time and effort to get to. Even though it's technically not "The End" but it still gives the same kind of feeling. However, to which scenario is it gonna be in the case of PZ? I don't know.

Hello awesome PZ community... There is something I would like to highlight... since this videos are actually being seen by the developers and by modders alike. This might sound irrelevant, but I do like being barefoot indoors, as most asians would. Zomboid has a feature that let you in fact walk barefoot inside premade homes without getting injuries but that only works on prebuild buildings, not expansions, not new built houses. I don't know what system is working to "detect" what is considered a "safe barefoot" zone, but I'd love to be able to build myself a home and don't worry about getting my character's feet all scartched as they were walking outside. Does anyone know if this is easy to fix/mod? Thank you in advance

If craft will be similar to Cataclysm DDA it would be awesome. Because you will have a ton of options for crafting and surviving.

Would be cool if we decided to do a 10 years later or as you said 30 they would allow us to choose one of the professions we get already but on top of it one of the new ones to show that our character had a previous life but in their new one they learned to do this or that. It might be overpowered mechanically but more realistic and immersive imo.

The Zomboid Team building the TechTree from the very bottom is actually fairly immersive. Realistically if society collapsed most of the survivors would basically have to relearn everything from scratch again. Most Humans alive today have no idea how to properly farm anything, let alone forge metals. Those are examples of basic skills that have been lost due to automation. This very situation, survivors of a collapse having to relearn the basics, it's actually happened in human history quite a few times. There was the Pre-Indo European Collapse where society went from more advanced civilizations like the Minoans back to late Neolithic Hunter/Gathers, then there was the Bronze Age Collapse followed by the Collapse of Rome and Archeologists believe this cycle has likely happened dozens of times before in the very, very distant past we're just now starting to learn. The story of humanity often seems to be a series of high peaks followed by even lower lows.

Hey Atomicduck, Do you think they are doing any project (or if a modder could do it, that would be amazing), to make an RTS+Survival game? like... do you control several survivors like Age of Empires, Nuclear down or Banished? I believe the game would be fantastic if it were like this, you manage a town/city full of people surviving attacks from zombies, other NPCs and hunger/thirst It's just a wish of mine, but who knows, it might come true (I hope so)

I hope/bet we get some modders that recreate the underground Labs of CDDA. They go a bunch of levels deep and obviously we dont have mutants, but are then filled with zombies and who know, maybe at some point other dangers like turrets

I don't believe we'll be getting them in B42 unfortunately. Hopefully I'm wrong though! Companion animals would take a bit more work and it makes sense to hold these back until they get some more of the basic animal AI tested by the wider playerbase.

See, if not vanilla then with mods, I'd love to see brick walls that take a long time to craft but can't be broken by zeds like player wood walls can be. Make it even better by being able to remove a door/window and brick it up, makings a barrier that neither zeds nor you (unless you have a sledgehammer) can remove it. Gives the option for players who grind enough materials to build that massive fortress, but it is easy enough for people not interested just to not use it

We should be able to dig secret tunnels with basements. Underground mapping system. run lights, stash boxes, tap into water lines ect.. The possibilities are endless.

@@MrAtomicDuck I was just thinking they thought of it. Trapping gets birds. Birds = feathers. each bird can only provide few good feathers for fletching. Chipped stones or maybe metal for arrow heads might work. Maybe I'm just complicating the crafting system though.😂 makes trapping more beneficial maybe?

I really hope it dosint ruin the game hopfully like he said it’s more end game. But when games start to get more complex and lose its semplicity it starts to go down hill. But hope these are all just something part of the game I’d you want to do it do it if not cool. Hope it’s just things that can be done not a priority

It looks more like a quicker and easier way to do big builds, but you'll need to spend a lot of time and effort getting to the point of being able to benefit from them. Think community servers with big ass compounds and stuff. It's more options, it doesn't look like it'll actually change the way you have to play if you don't want to.

Man. I know the game takes place in America. And I also know it takes place in the past, as in like I think it was the 90s? But I cant help but feel nostalgic seeing those basements even as a German. I dont know why. It kinda gives the same vibes I was used to over in the 90s and early 2000s. its odd how similar it must have been for people even in different countries as a whole. That being said, man I cant wait to get my hands on this build. I hope they take their time tho. If it takes another year or two, dont really care. Its what it is.

Why can I now imagine a post apocalyptic feudal system of serfs, tradesman, and the Knights. That sounds awesome but I really want armor that can be crafted! Say gambeson [padded shirt that easily stops scratches but struggles against more advanced weapons and more than 2 zombies

I've been waiting for this update for forever. It's my dream because I am exactly that demographic of people that hit the plateau wall eventually after doing literally everything you can do. I build forts, communities, and be quite the multitool handyman in my sessions. So they does reach a point of permanent sustainability. I'd love for the ability to prolong my sessions well into the apocalypse. This happened with my last server. We made it to Winter and I just got bored as I ran out of things to do. All my goals and envisionings were met. I don't have that youthful limitless mind anymore, that I did when I was a kid. Where I could play the same save forever despite hitting the wall. While it may inconvenience me that they plan to nerf the ability to be a multitool, I don't mind the grind existing at least still. Insofar it isn't grueling.

I hope they don’t kill the crafting completely by making the crafting specialized into certain roles for specific people, I like the idea of having a whole server of people working together to build a community and have different specialized crafting jobs, but I wonder how many people would actually interact with that system instead of just playing single player sandbox and being inconvenienced by needing a specific role or skill to craft things sounds cool on paper but when you need to craft armor and your armorer is at school or working in real life what then?

​@@bullseyebulldog8001 What they seem to be working towards, is specialization, but also are still accounting for solos. They want to encourage players to engage with one another through the various mechanics. Say for the anime husbandry. They account for genetics/inbreeding. They seem keen to have it where players may be enticed to barter/trade livestock for whatever. I do like this route. I already was the designated mechanic/welder on my server, so people would pay me what I request+the needed supplies and I'd get straight to work. All of this overarchingly is supposed to tie in with the NPC update, where you'll be doing some Rimworld type management n whatnot. Which is also cool, imo.
