I had a pair of painted quails as they call them runing around my aviary floor they would lay eggs and I boiled and mashed them and raised my baby cockatiel and budgieregards on the mixture with seeds love what you do dex 👍👍👍

I only had about 300 adults, you sure beat me. Great set up. Can you please show more quail pen designs. How can you tell a layer from a nonlaying quail? Most of my quail payed around early afternoon. We used quail food, not chicken feed. We sold all of our eggs right at out gate. Dexter thank you for sharing.

Many thanks, I've been looking for "homemade quail cage" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (just google it ) ? It is a smashing one of a kind product for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail without the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my co-worker got cool results with it.

For culling, how do you know which quail are not laying eggs, or are laying less than others? -Especially when you have so many together.

I know with chickens they stand more upright when they are no longer laying and their combs and wattles will not be as red anymore. Idk if quail do that though.

Late to the party. Check the vent. Of it is small like a male, they aren't laying. If they are overly large or small, they aren't laying. In small birds they don't have the calories to produce. If they are overly heavy, they aren't laying and are storing all the calories they eat and aren't using any to lay.
