I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I get so emotional when you put clips of your dad in videos. I lost my dad when I was 23. Dad's are one of those special things that can't be replaced. Mom's can't be replaced either, but we both still have ours. I can only imagine how difficult this was for you. I still have some of my dad's stuff that some may would love to collect, others only I have any connection to.

I know this must be bittersweet for you. Yet it is good that you will find a good home for some of these, keep some of these, and maybe Heather will want some to gain insight into her dad too. It is all good as you incorporate some into your life, and move some on to new good homes. Lots of the titles were part of my teenage time, brought back memories. I loved the video.

Alex, I'm so glad that you still have some of your fathers collection of albums. He has some really good titles from what I've seen. I thought of my dad when I saw your video. My dad was a talented local drummer and loved music of many different types. He had decent album collection (not as big as your dads') and I remember looking through his albums when I was a kid. Sadly he passed away in 1996 and his record collection was destroyed. So that is why I'm happy that you have some of your dads albums

I am an avid Beatles fan, and I never saw that particular photo on the thumbnail. It was them smiling and posing behind a door, like during the early "moptop" days, but their hairstyles, and John's glasses, show that it clearly was post-Sgt. Pepper, when they all stopped smiling.

That Link Wray Rumble 45 is cool. Rumble is one of the first rock'n'roll songs to use "power chords" and distortion, Wray poked holes in the speakers of his amplifiers to get it even dirtier. Often cited as one of the earliest influences of the what would become "heavy metal". And even though it was instrumental it got banned from the radio in the US.

Oh man, not sure the tracking turntable was as popular like you think. I had one and trying to get it to hit the right track was a pain lol. The direct drives were the best. Man watching that brings back memories. I got rid of my huge collection in the 90’s, wish I had saved it. I had a ton of early punk and metal stuff. Watching this video made me want to get back into collecting, till you reminded me about having to move them.

The Easybeats LP is a band from Australia. In the band was the older Young brother, his younger siblings went on to be the more famous band called Ac/DC, and his brothers are Angus and Malcolm. The easybeat brother also co wrote and helped produce many of the earlier AC/DC albums. Just a bit of Aussie music trivia.

Oh my God, I can't believe this collection! I have that Technics turntable, a Seventies classic that is still popular today. The Beatles (the ticket to the Hollywood Bowl concert in the album sleeve), Stones, The Who of course. But Link Wray, Tchaikovsky, The Cure, Flying Burrito Brothers, Shangri-Las, Zappa, etc. very eclectic taste and telling by the rare and first presses, a serious music lover. That Direct from Edmonton album could be a bootleg. Signed albums and posters (I saw that Ronnie Spector signed the Ronettes poster). I have around 400 albums, but it pales against his 9000+. I never met your Dad but he was a very interesting guy.

I think that 45 of the Beatles I want to hold your hand was the first one out. It's worth more than $139.00. There are a lot of truly one of a kind records there. Some of them I owned and played till they wore out. I'm 67 years old and the Beatles are one of my favorites too. I had the Shangri La album. Lot's of memories for me in those. Too bad you are going to sell them. What an amazing collection.

6:40 Link Wray's 'Rumble' is a great tune and I was lucky enough to see Link Wray perform at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto in the late 90's or early 2000's and he was still amazing at his age as well as very gracious with the audience. My ears were ringing for three days after the concert, but it was worth it to see the legend in person. :)

Oh the music!!! Born in 64 I was brought up on a lot of these, my dad was only 18 and loved music, which he passed on to me 😍 While I was away at school he sold off a load of LPs to his students and when I returned home I was furious, as some were mine... Turned out he sold them to his students (he was a cool teacher and often had the latest albums he would tape on request lol). The boy who bought most of them became my husband, so I got my records back!!! 🤣

Some really cool records there. That Ronettes is really hard to find and you have 2? That’s nuts. Also that sealed copy of Pet Sounds...If by chance that’s an original I’d personally put that up on eBay auction. Could bring big money just because it’s sealed.

My mother was the record collector in our family. When I was about 13 years old, my uncle bought me my first LP for my birthday. It was the Mammas and the Pappas "California Dreaming". That started off my collection of records, which grew and grew and grew until about the 1980's when vinyl records were no longer sold in South Africa because the CD was the new in thing. I was mesmerised when you were going through your Dad's records, especially the 45's. It must have been heartbreaking for you to have to sell your Dad's precious collection, but there always comes a time in life when difficult choices must be made.

Hey Alex, Thank you for yet another very nice video adventure. I'm with you on the emotions and memories that go with things that once belonged to a family member, especially a parent who has died. I hauled my dad's LP and 78 rpm collection all the way from NY to Spain. About 1,000 78s and 150 LPs in total. Some of them, like Fats Waller and other 1930s jazz bands were my fondest childhood memories and I used to go with him to buy them. I have one correction for you though. Johnny and Edgar are not twins. The story goes that his parents who were musicians but pretty devout Christians got freaked out when Johnny was born an Albino. When Edgar was born 2 years later and Albino as well, it kind of stopped them from having more children. By the way I did get to see him play live in Central Park around 1978 or 79. Insanely great, a truly amazing, unique musician but I wish he'd taken better care of himself.

I had a similar collection over 600 of the best from 50s to the 70s most original and they were all stolen when I moved to Calgary back in 2000 they were all in boxes in my car I had unloaded the trailer and was tired I left them in the car locked next morning went out to unload to find someone already did it for me they smashed the back window of my Malibu and took everything I had rare unopened and valuable collection all gone to this day I wish I still had them many I played a lot. I still have my stereo and apx 6-8 albums now. One I particularly loved was called Uncle Charlie & The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band I've not seen one since I lost my collection it breaks my heart to this day many were from my parents who are both now long gone I had almost every Elvis 45 record and album they were my Mothers fav she gave me. I know you have a lot of money sitting there it can take time to sell them off or do an auction and have the whole collation's of Stones Beatles etc I had all the Beatles albums I played them a lot as they are my all time favorites best of luck with them all

I too have my folks' and grandparents' record collections (nowhere near that sizable true collection)--and I was charged by an estate lawyer almost 20 years ago to catalog the collection of a friend of my folks. That was only 700 LPs...it sat in my house for 3 years and the estate lawyer never paid me for the inventory work. I pulled some collectibles for myself, sold off a few to others, returned records to other friends that had been mixed in the stacks and ended up selling the remainder of the lot for pennies. It was an active collection--they were all well played, so no real high dollar losses.

SL-3300 Good choice. That's the one I have. Very handy when you have copies of old radio shows like King Biscuit Flower Hour and Dr. Demento and such. Those records have locked grooves at the end of each section so you had to pick up the needle, put the table in neutral, lower the needle and spin the record backward until you hit the blank lead in to that section.

yeah, I know the feeling my uncle had about 10,000 records but my aunt thought she could sell them without my expert help (i have been collecting too for about 30 years 78s and cylinders mostly) and she got a really shitty deal the guy basically scammed her out of thousands! I would have taken in the records so she would have had room in her house and I would have divided it into sections from trash to treasure and auctioned them off on our national record fair's auction section far better than a local record dump dealer who pays 5 bucks a kilo! so people do some research and a place where 2 to 3 million collectors come to forage is probably the best option. also, I would have done that all for free you do that for family and dear friends.

@@OhMaryJo no never assume just ask and always talk about inheritance. also, do the homework because if you sell too cheap it is your own fault. when I buy bulk I recon on value of just a few items I can see the rest comes later so if I get a collection worth thousands instead of hundreds it is not my fault but a lucky find for me if you find an expensive painting in a thrift store for a dollar the owner wouldn't call you a scammer. getting an appraiser helps in these circumstances or sell at auction. when Alex got that huge collection of watches and parts for a low price then you would not call him a scammer, would you? I don't even know if the term scammer applies I think the right terminology is a swindler. so for your own stuff, I would say be careful do the homework google and eBay know a lot (eBay past sales) it all has to come from you because most countries' laws say that a deal is a deal if you get swindled then you lost.

There are specialized record-mailers, with a lot of extra space and sturdiness to protect the record. They cost a bit of money, but if you are shipping records from 30 till a 100 $ it's worth it!

Please make sure you take pictures of all the ones you have memories of to make a memory album for yourself! It is a great way of remembering those precious moments. Maybe your sister would like some?

Wow. I never thought of taking pictures of my records and make a memory album. What a great idea. I have so many albums. This would be so nice to be able to look at instead of having to pull out all my albums. Thx for the suggestion. I've got over 50 years of collecting records.

Wow Alex 😍 Your Daddy's collection is so amazing!! Such a treasure of rarities too!! I was drooling 😂. I hope you let Heather pick some out for keep sakes ❤️ There was a story on the news here in Dallas, TX over the weekend how albums are going to out cell CD'S this year & how old school record stores are popping up every where😍 I love all of that music in your Daddy's collection.

Sad but you have the memories and we have to move on, not only for us but for our families and our things and I think your dad would be pleased other people are listening to music he liked.
