I pair the 35L GR3 with a waxed canvas shoulder bag, it’s worked out well for me so far.

Good combo! My standard lately has been 26L GR1 with 32L kit bag. I’ve got a trip this week and I’m going 45L GR3 with Alpaka Elements Tech Brief Pro. We’ll see how that works out.

Just got my 45L last week and have a trip in a couple weeks to test it out on. I’ve done a test pack out and those shoulder straps are definitely thicker than any of GR1/2 , Rucker, or M23. That included hip belt is massive but I’m sure it will come in very handy if I’m ever lugging it anywhere more than the airport. Love all the space available so that I can toss a smaller pack inside for my destination and not have to 2 bag it like I have been doing as the Kit Bag on top of a GR1/2 always ends up being a pain waking through crowded areas for too long.

2 bags is a pain at the airport. I’m just finishing up a work trip and I did 1.5 bags. GR3 with the ALPAKA tech brief. Worked out ok but I want to get down to 1 bag. That’s always been difficult for me on work trips, but I think I might be able to get there with the GR3.

@@Pack_roam in some sense you almost always need some sort of ultra small bag for the stuff you need on the plane. I still use a very old Jansport hip (fanny) pack for snacks, battery pack, and other stuff I don’t want in my pockets because it can stay attached to me if I decide to take a nap. I’m not much on the looks of hip bags or sling bags, but for the duration of the flight it’s fine and is small enough to toss back into my backpack when the flight is over.

@@ShoelessPoimen I agree 💯 I’ve used small slings and larger slings/messengers depending on how much space for overall packing I need. The smaller the better. I’ve been looking at the Black Ember Boarding Kit Mini and the Tom Bihn Handy Little Thing. May pick one or both of those up, see how they work out.

@@Pack_roam I have a HLT from Tom Bihn and it’s always the pouch I go back to for a tech pouch but never thought about using it for a plane bag. I’ll check out the Black Ember Boarding kit.

That's a useful if massive bag. The beefy shoulder straps are definitely needed. Are they still comfortable after wearing the bag for a while? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching! I would assume, but haven’t put many miles on it yet. They feel thicker than my Rucker straps and I do some mileage with 45-60lbs. I’ve got a trip to JAX and DFW next week, I’ll prove it out.

Nice video! Man is the GR3 as big as it seems in the video. How do you like the F&R cologne. Been thinking about trying it. Got a few reviews in my watch later to watch. I did check and saw you didn’t have one.

Thanks! Yeah, the GR3 is massive. Love the F&R cologne. That one is Calle Ocho, great scent that seems to last, and the flippy case is really cool.

No issues for me with US domestic flights. I did 4 flights last week with this bag as carry-on.

I used to be a big fan of goruck but become a bit disillusioned with themselves recently. I still have about four their bags, and a couple accessories.

Unless you need a backpack, most people are probably better off with a small roller bag and daypack.

Depends how you define better off I suppose. I think I’m better off exerting the effort required to carry a bag as long as I’m physically capable. I do laps around the terminal between flights for physical activity. I also prefer to be hands-free.
