great run through guys. We've just had the Alu-Cab conversion done to a 2018 Troopy and the mattress is a pain. (literally) you mentioned that you had a custom made inner spring mattress and you added a topper to that as well? Can I ask how tall the entire mattress unit is now? And what bedding are you still able to store in the bed area when closing? I only have a sleeping bad and it's impossible to close with that. (pillows are 100% a no go)

Hey, guys - hope we're not being painful, but we have another question about your fridge set up. Someone said to us we should get a plate for the fridge to sit on. Apparently this can be used to secure it in place and is better than using straps. We've never heard this before and were wondering if you have such a plate and, if not, how is it secured in place? Also, we were wondering about your electrical set up - what sort of battery and inverter do you have? Hope you don't mind sharing this info. Cheers, Alistair & Sonia
@EscapingCrowds
@EscapingCrowds Жыл бұрын
Hi A&S, Our fridge is secured by tie down straps from the fridge handles to D-rings secured in to the floor (x4). It hasn't moved but I check the straps occasionally. You can buy a fixing kit from Dometic but its basically tie downs, D-rings, nuts and bolts similar to what we've used. I did a quick google on dometic fridge fixing kits and found a plate that only appears to be for their smaller fridges, I assume as they are more portable. The electrical is all Enerdrive, including 200ah lithium battery and 2000w inverter. Smaller inverters may struggle if you intend using an induction cooktop. Ask away if you have any more questions or send a msg to our Insta @escaping_crowds

Hey! Thanks for the comment! We got it from Long Range Automotive. We think their website only mentions long range fuel tanks but they do water tanks as well. Here’s the link. All the other info is in the description LONG RANGE AUTOMOTIVE - 90 LITRE WATER TANK longrangeautomotive.com.au/

@@EscapingCrowds I must give them another call as they only appear to do fuel tanks. I’ve already done the cabinet fitout and torqit exhaust, did you manage to do the water tank without needing access to the top floor pan (as I already have cupboards inbuilt there). Also did you need to reroute the torqit exhaust? Thanks for the informative vid 👍
@EscapingCrowds

@@CharlesGeraghty Hi, I noticed their website doesn’t seem to mention water tanks but it definitely came from LRA. I had it fitted at the same time as the internal fitout so didn’t query how it was done sorry. I’m sure I saw another instal video where internal access was required. The 3.5” torqit fits perfectly with the water tank without modification.

@EscapingCrowds Жыл бұрын
Hi, I’m pretty sure we got the Luxury Slimline Roof Top Camper version. Yes it’s a 70mm combination of innerspring and foam. I don’t think there was an option of firm/medium in that mattress. We ordered it via BCF.

@@EscapingCrowds Thanks for the quick response and details. With the topper can you still shut the roof while leaving the bedding in and only removing the pillows?
@EscapingCrowds
@EscapingCrowds Жыл бұрын
@@peterandbarbs7829 You probably could, but we don’t. My theory is that they say you can have the standard mattress plus quilt (or similar) so our topper basically replaces the quilt. It would be quite tight and we don’t want to push it. If you order through BCF you need to provide a sketch with measurements so let us know if you need them as you’ll have to allow for the taper at the front end.

Hey, guys. Great video. We've got a troopy and just starting on the build out (Mulgo popup roof is going in this week). We're thinking about the Dometic 75L DZ fridge/freezer that you have. We were just wondering, now that you have been using it for about a year, what are your thoughts about it? How well does it work? Is it noisy? Is the location behind the passenger seat good and is it easy to access? If you were building your troopy now, would you still get the same fridge and place it in the same place? Looking forward to your response on these questions and, of course, to your next video. Happy travels. Hope to see you on the road. Alistair & Sonia
@EscapingCrowds
@EscapingCrowds Жыл бұрын
Hi there, cheers for watching. The fridge has been perfect for us, no issues and the placement behind the seats is working well. We have the insulated cover on it and left a gap all around to allow airflow so factor that in when you build the cupboards etc. It's not noisy, surprisingly quiet actually. To be honest, if it was placed at the rear of the troopy I'd still have to climb in to get stuff out because that's the nature of chest type fridges anyway. I wouldn't mind trying an upright but generally the freezer section is too small and wouldn't work for us. So yes, we're happy with it and have no reason to change. Exciting times for you, who's doing the roof conversion?
@alistair9830
@alistair9830 Жыл бұрын
@@EscapingCrowds Thanks. That's great feedback, especially on factoring in the gap to allow airflow around the fridge as we hadn't considered that. Our rooftop conversion is being done by Expedition Centre in Sydney.

Hi guys been thinking about the roof conversion,does your bedding get wet if packed away after rain that night? Cheers
@EscapingCrowds
@EscapingCrowds Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, no it hasn't got wet yet. The canvas has never got wet inside and that's the bit that would touch the bedding. It's a double layer of canvas. They recommend leaving windows open when packing down to allow air to escape but if both side windows are soaked (outside) we would just leave the rear window open as that's protected by the rain fly. You'll only get wet bedding if you allow wet fly screens to touch the bed so we've always been able to pack down without that happening. Hope that makes sense.

@EscapingCrowds Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. We've really only needed after sales service in relation to a broken latch which was sorted promptly through the installer here. I did contact Alucab direct about the new latches as I became aware that they were working on a new design and they were a bit vague on the timing but I assume they just don't know exactly when they will reach Australia. Other than that I don't think there would be any issues with availability of parts. I wouldn't envisage any issues long term, just look after it. As we mentioned in the video, the conversion works really well for us and we would highly recommend it. Hopefully you don't have to wait too much longer for your troopy. Cheers
